A gathering/part/bruhaha has been proposed by a namelss personage (Shrain) for those of us on the East Coast.
To my knowledge, that would be Jeffe, me, Oseleon, Shrain, and Gemm. Plus, probably several of the newer people.
The DC region has been proposed as a central-ish location, being north of those in the southern Virginia area, and south of those in the NY or Boston areas. Perhaps it is farther from those locations, but a more exact center would put us somewhere near Philadelphia, and nobody wants that.
I am now soliciting interest and willingness to attend such an event, proposed changes to the location, suggested activities, and date availability. Halloween sounds like a cool time for Timewasters, though perhaps a nearby weekend would be more appropriate.
as for activities, movie watching, collaborative (or just jam) writing, Magic, board games (i have many interesting variations on Risk, plus Age of Mythology and Attack! and Settlers of Catan), roleplaying, Clix, Pirates, card games (I have cool games such as Nanofictionary, Fluxx, and The Totally Insane Card Game), monument/museum visiting, and excessive snack food consumption are all acceptable to me. It is even possible for me to get together several computers for a LAN party, though these computers will be roughly 4-5 years old, so the brand new games wouldn't be fun. Jeffe has an XBox (for which I can get free rental games from work) but I don't want to volunteer that until he says he could make it available.
So, speak to me East Coasters. Even if I didn't mention you by name, speak up. It's a party, which means more people = good.
-
Hmmm, I would be all up for this. However, it would seem my place of employment likes the idea of a "vacation" blackout date between Nov. something and Jan. 1. So, a stick in the mud? Maybe.
However, not to be a downer. I'm all about this. I have a 360, cool and all. I could be swayed into buying another controller or if there was a way to rent a few, that'd be cool too.
That's about the fair share that I could contribute were I to come.
There's all sorts of fun we could have. My concern right now would be the living arangements for these days that are visited in the east. Where would we Stay?
-
if we're talking 5 people or less, I can probably arrange free housing with no problem. I have all sorts of family and in-laws, and a basement.
-
A gathering/part/bruhaha has been proposed by a namelss personage (Shrain) for those of us on the East Coast.
Yay, I'm a personage!! (Uh, what's that mean, really?)
Anyhoo, yes, I think a party for us eastern TWGers would be cool, esp. if it's in D.C. My bro and I had a great time there. For me, Halloween weekend would be ideal. Last year's stake Halloween dance thingie was rather lame :P
-
So, say the weekend of the 27th? friday, saturday, and sunday? That'd be cool with me. I'll be more than able to get the time off. Probably get a bus ticket, be cheap I bet.
-
sounds good enough for me, let's see what others say.
-
I'm all for that. The weekend of the 27th looks good to me. I would probably take Monday the 30th or Thur the 26th off though to allow for more fun and travel time. (I think driving will be cheaper--if slower--way to go).
-
Good news on this front: I spoke with Jeffe and he says he will probably come. We're talking weekend before Halloween, Oct 27-29.
Jeffe also wants there to be costumes. And since Shrain is also excited about that, we will probably have costuming of some sort. Don't be surprised if I come dressed the disgruntled editor of an online magazine or else a disgruntled Hollywood Video employee.
Oseleon works weekends, so we probably won't see him (though I haven't spoken to him, just Jeffe) but Jeffe says he'll try to talk him into it.
I want to take this opportunity to invite Fuzzyoctopus and husband and Mr. P and wife too. You guys are further east than west, so try to come!
edit: all you westies are free to come too. We don't hate you!
-
I want to come! But I can't. I already have a costume party that Saturday to attend.
By the way, I know why Shrain is particularly excited about it being a costume pary! Details to follow...
-
Having weighed my options, tolling through every piece of crap I've laid out for myself as a road, I'm going to have to sadly decline this adventure in fun.
However, if this happens again after the new year, I may be in better spirits and luck to actually venture forth.
Right now however, isn't the best time. I'm actually starting to act like an adult and come to terms with my nature.
But, for everyone that will be going, HAVE FUN and enjoy the tumultous fevor that is the TWG Easterners!
-
Alas; I'm working that weeekend.
-
bah! you guys are no fun.
-
I'd come, get hyper, pass out, wake up, have fun, etc. But i'm underage, working, don't know any of you well enough to validate the trip with parentals, and last of all, have a party that weekend that involves free alchohol and jello shots for anyone! ;D Please ignore that last part though...... Maybe in 2 years I'll take the 2 hour drive there, or buy a plane ticket.
-
Maybe in 2 years I'll take the 2 hour drive there, or buy a plain ticket.
You should splurge and buy a fancy ticket.
-
maybe the kind with fruit on the bottom.
-
You should splurge and buy a fancy ticket.
Yeah, Pumpkin. Plain tickets are dull not to mention entirely tasteless. Now, the kind with fruit on the bottom... well, those are the greatest!
Oh, and I'm afraid we won't be providing free alcohol, most of us being teetotalling Mormons and all.
-
I would love to come out, but I most likely wouldn't be able to justify the trip out to DC from Michigan. If I can talk Archon into it I would make the trip, though. More details would be nice.
-
What are you talking about? ??? plain? I see no plain tickets. ;)
And I normally don't drink; someone has to be the old lady driver, and my fada, being pastory and all, might dissaprove. Besides,a hangover would suck on such a good weekend. However, when I get a small buzz, i'll try to think of you dried up teetotalers. *teeheeheehee*
-
see, what you drunkards don't understand is that we "teetotallers" don't feel as if we're missing anything by refusing to willingly impair our ability to move or think properly. In fact, we tend to laugh at those of you who do so.
And, it seems as if the gathering is a bust. With only three of us, because Gemm backed out, it's not worth taking the vacation time or the travel plans.
-
I talked to Osleon, he is checking in to it, and he might bring his brood.
-
that would be cool. Keep us updated, asap so things can be arranged if necessary.
-
Yeah, this could actually work out. Hey, SE, what about Archon?
What are you talking about? ??? plain? I see no plain tickets. ;)
Riiiight. Anyhow, Punky, if you wish to change something in an old post that relates directly to what's being discussed, we would prefer that you do it this way:
Edit: Oops. Yeah, yeah. Okay, that should've said "plane."
-

I especially like making fun of drinkers for one reason: they are the perfect target for any and all practical jokes. Â Think about it, if you were to play a joke on somebody, they would ideally:
1) Not have to coordination to chase you down or fight you if they get angry
2) Not have the inhibitions to prevent them from doing obviously stupid things
3) Be easily suprised by things that would not suprise most normal people
4) Not remember the evil jokes the next day.
Drinkers often meet all of that criteria. Â Yay!
-
I feel the same about smoking. Nothing like shelling out your hard-earned cash to poison your own body.
-
mmm poison.
does it get any better?
Im having Arsenic cookies for lunch myself.
-
Gorgon, thats a hugely simplistic and mostly wrong interpertitation of drinking too. What you meant to say is drunks. I've met plenty of folks who drink without getting drunk.
-
While Jeffe is right, I would like to point out that in college, and in high school (the places where Gorgon and I would normally encounter drinkers), saying that someone is a drinker is virtually saying that they are a heavy drinker. Moderation is not usually a strong suit in underage and/or party drinking.
-
Gorgon, thats a hugely simplistic and mostly wrong interpertitation of drinking too. What you meant to say is drunks. I've met plenty of folks who drink without getting drunk.
Sorry that I was not clear--I didn't at anytime say, or mean to imply, all people who drink get wasted; but, often enough, especially, as Archon noted, the type of people I would see drink as part of my regular life, they do.
Most especially the people who make fun of those who do not drink.
Which is why I felt this application would be appropriate for the situation. Â I did, note, not say all people who drink, a majority of people who drink, or the people on this board who drink. Â I just said it happens often that they meet all of that criteria, which is completely and perfectly legitimate. Â If you don't believe that people get drunk 'often,' look at the numbers of people who are brought in for alcohol poisoning, drunk driving, and underage drinking (to name a few statistics to check), on a monthly, or even weekly, basis.
-
So... all discussion of drunken antics and alcohol poisoning aside, how 'bout we all try to finalize plans for our shindig? Who's in for sure? What sort of mischief are we planning and for when? I propose we do some games of course, like Settlers, maybe see a movie, find a Halloween party to crash, go out on the town, etc.
I plan to arrive Sat morning because I don't wanna miss the chance to show off my costume at the stake institute Halloween par-tay. Then I plan to fly back Monday night. That way I can do some extra sightseeing or something before going back to the office. (I realllllly need a chance to just have fun!) But I'll have to talk to SE about that because I wouldn't want to wear out my welcome. I could always stay at a motel Sunday night if need be.
So, shall we start putting this all together?
-
yeah, I need numbers if I'm going to be making any sleeping arrangements.
-
Yes, I shall take the deluxe basement suite, please.
-
/me cordons off the rat-infested part of the basement
-
for sleeping.
I still have an apt in the DC area, sooo...
Im there man.
-
Sweet! Gorgon, Archon, how about it? Oseleon, are you still coming with the fam?
Oh, SE, what are the names of the two airports most convenient to your place? Raegan and... I can't remember the other one. :P
Also, is it okay that I'll be coming in on Sat morning? I want to find a flight that comes in at around 10am or so. That way I can go to the stake spook fest on Friday night. Is anyone else planning on staying until Monday night, too?? (Or could anyone be persuaded to stick around? ) I'd love to do some extra partying/sightseeing and stuff before flying home. Come on, you know you guys wanna play hookey from work. ;D
-
Jeffe, what's Mike's status?
Shrain, Dulles, abbreviated IAD. Reagan National might be easier for Jeffe to pick up from, but Dulles would be easier for me.
Saturday should be ok. We'll play all saturday.
-
ALRIGHT YOU KNOW WHAT I'M GOING TO DO THIS IN ALL CAPS. IMAGINE I'M A COMIC BOOK CHARACTER!
I jest. I've decided to throw caution to the wind (and in my case, into the snow) and I will come down to the VA to do the awesome fun with everyone!
What bus depot should I look into arriving at? Or maybe there is cheap air fair.
So, yes. I will be coming. Friday to Sunday. Screw work, screw Buffalo, and screw any silly money concerns. (The gas check is in the mail as we speak.)
And no concern, I did request the time off already, just in case I was or wasn't going to go.
-
you want the springfield/franconia metro stop. There's a grayhound stop there.
-
What kind of facial hair should I sport for my time down there? A goatee? A beard? A Hulk-stache? Suggestions would rock.
-
can you grow a beard a la ZZ Top by then?
-
Sadly, no. But I can grow one that is similar to the guy who played Kringle in the old Miracle on 34th Street. In the amount of time I have that is.
-
Grow all the hair you want, but my Mistborn costume will still be cooler. ;)
-
but my Dent, Arthur Dent costume will be the coolest.
-
I went as Arthur Dent to an office costume thing two years ago. I even bought a digital watch specifically for the costume. Nobody got it.
-
Next up... figuring out what fun-filled activities we want to plan!
Also, if I stay on Monday, can anyone else stay around too??
-
activities:
Gemm's bringing the XBox 360. Yay!
I can gather enough laptops for a small LAN party, if we play warcraft. Heck, I could even grab a NWN adventure and we could play that multiplayer.
Free DVD rentals. Just let me know what you want to watch.
Roleplaying: I have a vast set of books.
Visiting historical sites or memorials. Hay muchos de memoriales. Jefferson Memorial, Washington Monument, Lincoln, WWII, Vietnam. Plus battlefields: Manassas is really close. Plus parks: Burke Lake is fun, if a bit pedestrian. Museums: American History, Art, Air and Space, Natural History, Holocaust. Other: Old Town Alexandria is a really fun place to hang (and they have a great home made ice cream shop, and hopefully the used record shop is still in business).
Eating: we should visit 5 Guys. And while the DC Hard Rock isn't the best, it's still ok and I haven't been in a while. We also have a cool Planet Hollywood. Or we could get meat and do a cookout. I ahve a grill and Jeffe is an excellent cook
Board Games: Risk, Risk 2210, Risk: Godstorm, Risk: LotR, Risk Star Wars, Settlers of Catan, Attack!, Age of Mythology, and others
Other Games: Totally Insane Card Game, Fluxx, NanoFictionary (perfect for this crowd, honestly), Pirates (I have many, many ships), Magic: the Gathering
Group Writing Activity: Collaborative writing, progressive writing, Renga (always wanted to do renga in a group), or just jam writing where we all do stuff. Again, I can get additional computers if we do this and all want to type
So, post additional ideas or choose among these.
-
I decree from the Ministry of the Governor of Jamaica, that Jeffe must indeed cook for us one night. I must taste the delicacies that he always speaks about! Must!
Friday night we'll be Shrain-less, but who else will be around? I suppose that night we could just sit around and play some games and maybe do some of that rengaga stuff your talking about. (What in the world is Renga anyway?)
Saturday/Sunday, we'll just fly from the handles and do what impresses us most. At least, that's the way I roll, and love to do spontaneously constructed events.
So, there will be SE, Shrain, Jeffe, and I. Is anyone else showing up?
-
Oseleon is still on the maybe list.
Renga is the Japanese collaborative poem form that haiku came out of. THe first person writes a stanza of 5-7-5, then passes it to the next person, who writes a 7-7 couplet. You continue, alternating the sizes. Each stanza you write is supposed to be a completion of a though expressed in the previous stanza, but is not necessarily related to any other previous stanzas.
Some of the best haikus by the recognized masters are extracted from longer renga cycles like this.
-
Gemm's bringing the XBox 360. Yay!
Um... I have GIS (Gaming Ineptitude Syndrome). Yes, horrible isn't it? So I'm afraid I'll be sitting that activity out. :-/
I can gather enough laptops for a small LAN party, if we play warcraft. Heck, I could even grab a NWN adventure and we could play that multiplayer.
I've never played Warcraft--though my bros sure have. I'd be more interested in playing Settlers again and maybe learning one other computer or board game or card game (that is suitably cinchy enough for my unpracticed little brain to understand). My bros tried to get me into Risk, and that just sorta bores me. So *not* something like that, I beg of you! :P
Free DVD rentals. Just let me know what you want to watch.
Cool. This would be cheaper than going to see a movie, though I really want to see The Prestige and The Marine. Me and some friends might see Prestige tomorrow night, tho.
Visiting historical sites or memorials. ...Plus battlefields: Manassas is really close. ...Museums: American History, Art, Air and Space, Natural History, Holocaust. Other: Old Town Alexandria is a really fun place to hang ....
OK, the memorials are cool, but I've seen 'em in Jan. when my bro and I were there. But if some of us want to split up for part of the day, we could do that. Is Manassas battlefield really cool? I loved the Air & Space and Natural History museums; Holocaust was good. I might like to see the American Hist or Art. But Old Town Alexandria sounds neat too.
Eating: we should visit 5 Guys. ...We also have a cool Planet Hollywood. Or we could get meat and do a cookout. I hvae a grill and Jeffe is an excellent cook
Ooh! Why don't we go to Planet Hollywood for dinner on Sat and then have a BBQ on Sunday. (Yay, men doing the cooking!)
Group Writing Activity: Collaborative writing, progressive writing, Renga (always wanted to do renga in a group), or just jam writing where we all do stuff. Again, I can get additional computers if we do this and all want to type
I dunno what Renga is, but some kind of writing thing would be sweet. Progressive writing--like, say, a TWG East Halloween story--would be fuuun.
Hey, is anybody gonna take Monday off too?? I took the day off from work and I want to make good use of it!
-
Renga is described above
And it's my opinion that girls with GIS are only thusly because they don't try.
-
How about everyone makes a list of the three things they want to do most. So we can narrow it down.
mine are:
1-video games -- I really want to play video games in a group. And if Gemm comes down on Friday, before Shrain gets here, we can do that and not leave her out of anything
2-food -- out to eat or cooked. But good food. Not just hot pockets or hot dogs.
3-other games -- I most want to play strategy games, but gard games and whatever are a blast too.
-
Only three? Why three?
And, yeah, I guess I could *try* the Star Wars Lego game, but I could never get the hang of the 3-D type of games. (DK Country and Castlevania IV, Mario Bros, those were games I rocked. Sorta)
-
three because when I leave you with more you basically reiterate 80% of what I suggested.
also, you still haven't listed your three.
-
Okay, okay.
1. Eat: cookout and Planet Hollywood.
2. Play games: Settlers and Renga or SW Legos
3. Out on the Town: Old Town Alexandria or movie
-
1.)Play 9 worlds, an RPG I really want to try, because of cool player input mechanics, or octane (for the same reason)
2.) Ooo Ooo We need Cheesy 80's movies!
You know like Flash Gordon! or the Three Amigo's or Highlander, or anything by John Hughes. Just not the movie "Being there"
3.) Chill time with the homeys. A museum might qualify.
Yeah its like that.
I'll cook, but someone needs to help w/ food cause I will be nominally poor going there. Also I can afford 5 guys, but plant Hollywood might be out.
-
I wouldn't want to eat at "Plant Hollywood" either. ;) But we can go "on the cheap"--that's probably fine. And I'm sure we'll all pitch in on the grub for the cookout.
Oh, since you guys'll be "shrainless" as Gemm put in on Fri night, you could do the RPG stuff Jeffe wants to do and the tougher strategy or XBox games Gemm and SE like. Perfect, no?
-
Nein the RPG stuff is with you in mind Shrain my dear...
muhahahahahahahhaha!
-
If we do an rpg with shrain, it will have to be a very simple one. Like Tri-Stat, Ova, or TWERPS. we don't want to overwhelm her. Just teach her how fun it is.
The premise/setting should be easy too. In fact, a Star Wars game would be good. The mechanics are pretty simple, and it's easy to envision the world.
An Indiana Jones/pulp setting I would think would be easy too.
heck, doing a Mistborn setting with Ova would be cake, we could even do that.
-
9 worlds is easy... insanely so, and prolly easier for a non gamer than a gamer so...
-
Hey SE, would it be too much of a bother to stop at the Washington DC stop? It would seem to cut out a lot of time on my travelling. If it were alright, I'd be leaving at 10:45 pm on thursday Oct. 26th and arriving at 11:30 am the next day.
As for departing, I'd be leaving monday at 7:15 pm. Since I'm pretty sure I wasn't on the schedule and am going to take advantage of that.
-
how *much* time? Because, ask Jeffe, the downtown greyhound stop is pretty scary.
For some reason, 80s movies has stuck in my head. We don't need to rent them. I own Heathers, Pretty in Pink, Some Kind of Wonderful, and Dream a Little Dream
Although I suppose renting The Breakfast Club would be in order. Also, if we want to go Halloweeny, we can still say with 80s goodness by renting Ghostbusters and Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness.
comments? concerns? smart remarks?
-
Downtown Greyhound is Scary!!!
-
That doesn't answer the freaking question. Terds.
I could, if it saves you all the trouble of something or other go to the Springfield VA stop.
However, it would seem that what would be a 14 hour trip to DC becomes a 21 hour trip to Springfield.
But I will do it. I am to arrive in Springfield VA at 7:05 am. That's the only time they have for arriving.
As for departing, I will now be leaving at 1:20 pm on monday eve.
-
woah! they have you camping out at the DC stop for 6 hours? That's kind of what we want to avoid. Is there a plan to get to the DC stop at a rerasonable daytime hour?
-
well, I'm scheduled to arrive in DC by 11 pm. So if you're wanting to pick me up then that'd be great. Otherwise, I'll just wait it out and be in Springfield around 7 am.
I've already bought the ticket because I didn't want to wait any longer in purchasing this.
-
food,
what do people think they'd want so I can draw up a few practice menu's?
-
1 -- going out into the wonderful world would be fantastic.
2 -- cookout/good eats sounds great
3 -- some gaming/writing would be excellent fun.
Hmmm, what types of things to eat eh? Something with some meat. Maybe some corn on the cob. Don't know if it's in season down there. I know it's about the right time for it up here.
But you are the chef. All you need do is show us some crazy concoctions and we'll give you are opinion on them, yes?
-
As for departing, I'd be leaving monday at 7:15 pm. Since I'm pretty sure I wasn't on the schedule and am going to take advantage of that.
Woot! That's cool. Now I won't be solo on the last day of my mini holiday. :D
Nein the RPG stuff is with you in mind Shrain my dear...
muhahahahahahahhaha!
*snorts* Heh. So I gather. That's cool; I'm game. Just go easy on me, k?
Oh, and what's with the "Jeffenstein" name, dude? *I* am Dr. Shrain-kenstein. Are you trying to move in on my mad scientist territory?
food, what do people think they'd want so I can draw up a few practice menus?
Wow! A menu even! /me ponders the delicious possibilities....
In the meantime, here are the two possible flights I could take. I, uh, have to arrive kinda early, unless I want to pay more than $155 for the round trip. But the way I figure, since I have to check my bag, I probably won't need to be picked up until 9:30am. I hope that won't be terribly awful. How about the departure time? SE? Jeffe?
ARRIVAL
Sat at IAD @ 8:54am
DEPARTURE
Mon from IAD @ 8:20pm
OR
Mon from IAD @ 6:27pm
P.S. We can't forget to take a group pic of us in our cool costumes!!
-
Are you trying to move in on my mad scientist territory?
Um hello... my name year round is Mad Dr. Jeffe,.... I was expecting you to go with a Ghost Train (Ghost Shrain) metaphor or something. Or you could be Shrainkensteins Monster. Or Even just Shrainkenstein.
So um yeah, your gonna be there a full day before I. Or me. or something, depending on how long I stay at Chief Flynn's retirement ceremony.
-
Oh, also, I was thinking, maybe E could cook up something for Eberron or something... Maybe in Sharn (in praise of Shrain! All hail Shrain!) For a quick intro to D&D.
Pre-made Characters are not ruled out.
-
Um hello... my name year round is Mad Dr. Jeffe,.... I was expecting you to go with a Ghost Train (Ghost Shrain) metaphor or something.
True, you're a mad dr. year-round, but... see, I always thought of you more like a Mad Hatter type, ya know, rather than a Frankensteinian one. ;) All that aside, I am thinking that the Ghost Shrain name is kinda groovy. So I think I'll try that on for size. Just so we don't have too many mad dr. types around.
So um yeah, your gonna be there a full day before I. Or me.
"I" is the right pronoun. Yet... when you say a day late, does that mean you're arriving on Sat. like I am?
-
I need arrival dates/times. roughly exact ones. So I can arrange for people to be picked up (probably by me). And also so I can plan events
I already have Gemm's. Gemm, I will get you at 11 at the DC stop (that's Friday, right?). Just before noon should be less scary than aroudn midnight.
I will have some sort of adventure waiting.
For food: I'm thinking pork chops or steaks or something
also, potatoes. I have a good herbal rice recipe my dad uses, if anyone cares for it. Â And I'll make bread. Jeffe will be in charge of meat and possible veggies. We can shop for ingredients when the menu is decided. Just don't go to expensive, and we'll be good splitting the check, I think.
-
I was thinking fresh pasta
-
Then think again! Eric wants MEAT!
Also, Jeffe. When are you planning on arriving? The earlier friday, the more play time.
-
I work friday, wont be there till Sat or late friday night..
-
ok, and when you leaving? Late enough on monday to take shrain to the airport after I go to work that night?
-
Sunday night
-
What?! You're gonna bail on us on Sunday? :'( That is insufferable! SE, slay him at once--or after he makes us food, I guess. Then we can just chain him to the furniture (seeing as how you've neglected to install wall shackles yet).
-
um hello, Im a government worker... no choice and all.
-
The government must be overthrown then. It's as simple as that. ;D
Okay, okay, I admit I don't have the financial backing for such a plot, so we'll have to set it aside--for now. ;)
But it sucks that you can't stick around longer. I guess I was thinking that you could request days off and that you had asked for Mon. Curses. And rats! Yes, rats, I say!
-
i have special dispensation excusing you from work, jeffe. W. told me so himself.
-
Since when did you and W. get all buddy-buddy? Isn't he still mad about the banana and tinsel incident last Christmas at the White House?
Anyhow, Jeffe could always come down with a mysterious illness that is only curable through hanging out in the vicinity of SE's house. It is built over an ancient something or other, you see.
-
sacred ninja monkey burial ground.
-
10/26/06 11:00pm CPP-0757 * Arrive WASHINGTON, DC
That's thurs. night.
-
so I was poked and proded by Jeffe to check out this thread (ok not really, just an instant message) and awesome idea! A gathering sounds awesome. Sadly, however, this poor Mainer who would adore meeting people in real life, cannot be in attendance. I could have probably pulled off Boston or New York but even those are pushing it. Plus I have to teach the Friday and Monday around it.
Have a blast guys! Next time (I hope theres a next time!) I will do my very best to go and see all you lovely people!
-
Three words, caiti.
Call. In. Sick. :D
ok, we need to have a schedule.
Gemm, i uh... work till 11:30ish (depending on how long closing goes) on Thursday night. I can't pick you up then. I, for some reason, was thinking 11am. Though I see now that you had put PM there. I sorry. My bad, entirely. I suppose, if you want to hang for an hourish, I'll come get you. I can't abandon you and make you wait 6-7 hours there at that depot. Otherwise, catch a cab.
Please comment on the schedule below, people. Include specific movie and game titles you wish to include.
Current schedule:
Friday
Gemm is the only one present. We will play games and dink around. We will also go with my kids to pick out a pumpkin. Conceivably, we will also have pudding or something. Food is whatever's in the fridge. Maybe we will get a few pumpkins and carve out some TWG pumpkins. I dunno.
Saturday
8:00 Â am. SE wakes up (HAHAHAHA! seriously, I will have been up, made breakfast for childrens, and checked my email by this time)
8:30 am: SE forces Gemm into the car and they pick up Shrain from the airport
9:30 ish: arrival at the Ninja Monkey Burial Ground. Party begins in earnest. Hopefully Jeffe is around by now, having arrived late friday or saturday morning
Games begin.
Noon-ish: Lunch at Five Guys. Bring your appetite.
1:30 pm: SE forces you all to the comic shop "to make fun of the other nerds" and possibly pick up an action figure and comic books.
2:30 pm: game session 2
5-6:00 pm: some sort of meal (order pizza?)
7ish pm: game session 3/movie session 1. This continues until we are old tired people.
Sunday
9:00 am: Church. Attendence not mandatory, except for SE who has to teach primary to let his wife go to VT Conference
noon ish: lunch (sammiches?)
1 pm ish: haunting downtown DC (memorials, or, since it's getting cold by Virginia standards, SE may wimp out and whine for a museum visit instead)
6ish: Jeffe makes din-din
Post meal: Writing activity! Renga or collaborative/progressive story writing. Jeffe leaves sometime in here
Monday
sleep in
Old Town, where we will have lunch (picnic or Subway or something).

Party ends at that point. SE works at 6pm.
Gemm, when are you departing?

And now We shall christen this Gathering a "Con"
So welcome everyone to TWIG Con 2006. From now on every Halloween will be TWIG Con. Perhaps we can make it larger, or bionic or something.
-
Make sure you guys take lots and lots of pictures. So I can be insanely jealous.
-

Jeffe, I couldn't help but notice that you didn't comment on the schedule, or provide specific titles.
Don't worry, Nessa. I plan to take plenty of pictures. For blackmailing purposes.
-
Me want COSTUMES!! My costume rocks but dad-gummit, I ain't going to be the only one wearin' a costume, ya hear?! Yeah, I'm talkin' to you, SE, and you Jeffe and Gemm. Devise something or I shall devise it for ya. For example, y'all could be my Terrismen slaves. ;D
And now We shall christen this Gathering a "Con"
So welcome everyone to TWIG Con 2006.
Yeah, boy! A fancy new title. Cool. But, uh, what does the mysterious "I" in TWIG stand for, Jeffe?
-
Silly Shrain, the "I" always stands for Illuminati.
Which Airport is Shrain gonna be at, cause I could pick her up. I plan to be in DC by early Sat morning (1 or 2) or lat friday night.
Oh, and I also realized I no longer have either your address or your home phone #.
-
in the TW(i)G project it stands for (insert generic vowel sound here)
-
Game session 1: board game;
2nd session: P&P game;
sat. night movie: something fun, slither maybe?
Sunday should involve walking around the area, even if SE gets cold. I will give him some extra warmth. I am from chilly northernly cold Buffalo. We have much to be cold about.
And the writing thing after dinner would be cool. We can work those details out maybe as we eat or prepare the foods.
Shrain, worry not. I'm actually going to get a costume this year and will be wearing it some day during our adventures. ....Hmm, I have a dinosaur mask. (Dino Comics anyone?? =P)
Oh yes, and if we do go to comics shop will be good time for me to buy Robin and Union Jack. I think I will be continuing with UJ, not sure with Robin.
I think I've addressed everything.... Mind is slipping after 12 hours of work... with heavy things. Exhaustion.
-
I was thinking maybe
TWG: EIM
the 1st Time-Waster's Guide: East Invitational Meeting.
-

Woot! (Of course, if you show up as a Terris steward that'd be pretty darn cool too) ;)
I was thinking maybe

the 1st Time-Waster's Guide: East Invitational Meeting.
Oh, and, Gemm my friend, I dunno about the "Invitational" part. Sounds a smidge hoity toity to me, especially for such a geeky event and all. ;D
-
E- I still don't have your new address and phone #.
Email it to me at madfuzzybunnyslippers.com
-
sent.
-
Shrain's Costume: Mistborn
Gemm's Costume: (Demented) Dino
SE & Jeffe: Reluctant Terrismen Servants (lest they are wise enough to devise their own costumes forthwith).
Prize for best costume: Losers buy winner dinner, and let her (or him) pick the movie for Sat. ;)

Twiggy Con 1 is going well, despite the fact that we still have absolutely no clue when Jeffe will arrive. We assume he'll call. Today we:
played at least 2/3 of the campaign in Lego Star Wars II (The Original Trilogy. This because most of the games we have for the console aren't appropriate for my children.
When the children were absent, we played a lot of Dead or Alive 4. On the whole, Gemm is better than me at the one on one fights. But I beat him a good 2 out of 3 times in the team fights.
At lunch time we also played a game of pirates. I won, mostly because I had faster ships. Also, he strayed too close to my fort and got blowed up pretty good.
We played a game of Godstorm Risk. I scored an early lead that Gemm was unable to recover from. At the end of age 5 there were only 3 territories I didn't own. Two of them were neutral plague lands. The last had some 6 units in them owned by Gemm. Gemm did, however, have a significant upper hand in the underworld because of this.
We also dragged my wife into a game of Settlers. And she beat us. Quite easily. Gemm was second place, being in a position to take 8 or 9 points really soon. I trailed with some 5 points. Though I did have the longest road till by some freak coincidence (because it couldn't have been *skill* that beat me, y'know), Gemm got like, a billion pieces of road laid in one turn. He held longest road for a good 20 minutes, but then my wife came from behine and stoled it from him, and built a settlement for point number 10.
We look forward to the other two twiggies tomorrow.
On the agenda: more games, pumpkins, and a meal or two out.
-
We are *SO* totally having a better time than all the 26 people at the UT party had. When you've got a cunning chef, an eccentric Mistborn, a ninja-monkey boss man, and a knife-wielding poet, your party just can't go wrong. We have pictures to prove this all beyond doubt. Just wait and see. Right now, I am too busy watching SE pull off a ninja smackdown.
-
sounds like you guys had a good time, wish I coulda gone, next time!! enjoy the remainder.
-
it was a blast. Twiggy Con rocked, except that none of us slept (Shrain probably still has marks on her face from the seat on the Metro where she slept yesterday).
We have pictures, but I forgot to copy the ones from Shrain's camera to my computer before she left yesterday, and the ones on my camera didn't upload right. I'll try again tonight (camera at home today to get pics of the kids in costume)
Games played: Dead or Alive 4, Lego Star Wars II (which frustratingly stopped working on Sunday), Burnout (which we still don't understand but had fun with anyway), Attack!, NanoFictionary, Zendo, Nine Worlds, Fluxx, Duel of Ages, Settlers of Catan, Pirates, Risk: Godstorm.
Movies Watched: Hulk and Pretty in Pink
Food Eaten: cold cereal, grilled ham and cheese, Chicken Out, Five Guys, Dominos, nachos,Mexican pzza, porkchops with mushroom soup and stuffing and a sort of squash "pasta" (and a big ol' salad), a big hot dog, many cookies, Quiznos. No ice cream, which is both surprising and depressing.
Locales visited: a very winding and misdirect path to Arlington, featuring a great experience with the I-95/I-395/I-495/Old Keene Mill Rd interchange </sarcasm> and a brief view of many monuments and old town Alexandria, the garage under my office, the comic store (Gemm and I each spent waaaaay too much money), the National Aquarium (where Gemm was nearly arrested for brandishing a box cutter), the Old Post Office (where a discussion began about the virtues of the view finder versus the screen on my digital camera), The outside of the Capital Building (featuring music by a street musician who was a great showman and a pretty solid guitar player), the inside of a real live rocket, the lovely Metro, Borders, Target, Hollywood Video
A very busy weekend. It was awesome.
We're thinking the next would be good to have sprign breakish, to make it easier to get you college kids, but since it'll prolly be a different day than the local public schools, won't mean the young'uns will be around. Input from other TWG-Easterners?

I claim the right to deny ever having had any such object of death in my pocket. It was, as pointed out, my belt. Nothing more.
There was so much fun, I'm still having fun even though I'm entirely ready to pass out and accomplish none of the tasks I had set before myself today.
I particularly enjoyed Jeffe's kitchen skills and hope that he will brandish them one day in the form of a restaurant that I can stand outside of and heckle the customers as they come in, with SE at my side, silent as the noonday sun.
I now need to buy some more issues of a few ongoing series of comics that I was able to check out. Very cool.
I was impressed with the knit job, and overall impressed with Shrain's ability to coordinate herself into an awesome costume.
Everybody was awesome with the games we played. Especially that Zendo. I know what game I'll never play again. Shrain was the only one to figure out the ridiculous scheme behind that thing.
My favorite game had to be Settlers and Fluxx. Very fun and easy to learn, and overall just really interesting concepts. Duel of Ages blew about as much wind down my trachea as I'd like any crappy board game to do. I think that game of Risk would have been better with a third person; oh, and a bit more understanding of what was happening (but that's ok SE, beginner's need only learn).
Nine Worlds was a cool concept that I'd like to look more into and possibly get some friends into... wait, they really only like to roll dice... buttheads. Nanofictionary was fun just because we got to tell silly, or deranged, stories about anything.
Attack! was kind of odd, only because there're so many rules and options that one needs understand or grasp before really getting into the meat of the game and dominating. Pirates was fun just because we had little boats and islands and got to sail around blowing each other up.
Zendo... well, is Zendo.
The food was, once again, delicious!
The accidental tour through VA was fun, just because we got to torment one another as we zoomed through here and there.
5 Guys was awesome. Definately going there again, like tomorrow or something.
Monday's sightseeing was quite fantastic, almost exquisite, to the point that I am needing to get my FILM DEVELOPED to see the AWESOME shots I got on my FILM CAMERA. (Blunt enough for ya SE? =P)
And everyone was a treat, even SE's family who endured our geekiness for the time we were there.
Oh, and thanks for the floor SE. I know you offered the fold-out couch, and I think next time I'll take you up on that.
Gemm, out.

I claim the right to deny ever having had any such object of death in my pocket. It was, as pointed out, my belt. Nothing more.
Ah, yes. Who can forget the strip search?
-
In regards to the cooking, I had fun too!
So, the time has come too plan TWGE (twiggy) 2 which should come some time around Spring Break, we intend to have a beach theme and a Miami Beach location. Plan Accordingly.... Bring sunblock.
Ok maybe not Miami, ... or perhaps that is a good idea /me ruminates on the idea
-

My favorite party of TWGE still stands as that ad we heard about, you know, the one with the Lexus in the Lexus ad.
=P
-
One of those Lexus ads should really advertise a Lexus or something.
-
pfft. Silence!
Next thing you know, you'll be expecting to see dead roadkill or something. The insanity!
-
well, i did see an insane asylum that treats crazy people.
-
Why ever did they let you out, though?! :o
-
LOL! Man, it would have been fun to be there with y'all in one room, just for the entertainment value alone.
-
right, next time you cannot be exempt...
-
And you do not disagree with Jeffe. If you do, then you get nothing but assault. Or stares. Or a depth to the percetion of what you forgot was there.
-
I told you not to cross me, but you had to try... now, you see the folly.

Speaking of pictures, if you don't read my LJ, ask me for the login for my gallery if you're interested in ever seeing things like my Halloween pictures. I've changed the permissions on some of the albums so that only friends can see the pictures, so that when I link to my portfolio I don't just open my photographic life to everyone who has the web address.
-
yes I remember that,... except I also remembered that that was one of my many duplicate clones expressly made to deflect Ninja Monkeys from me.
-
Amazing! Did your clone do the cooking too? If so, you should have no problem staring a restaurant. You'd only have to pay yourself once, but you could have as many workers in the back as you wanted, cooking up a storm of clone-catered cuisine!!
-
no, we tag teamed it...
-
Wow. So *that's* the blur I kept seeing at the edge of my vision! huh.
Oh, to everyone who wants to see the pics, my snapfish account is under shrain 78 at yahoo. (My photobucket account is being a pain, otherwise, I'd link to that.)

Yeah, his daughters don't know, but we do.
Hey, they play with *my* toys all the time!
-
Got that right. They seemed particularly enchanted with your plethora of all manner of dice. They dumped them here, they dumped them there.... ;)
-
Though in some ways it is disturbing to see them play "house" with the X-men. Does Scott Summers really argue with Jean about who left the seat up? No wonder nobody likes him.
-
hrm. I dunno. But I recall that Padme and Arwen were becoming good pals. They couldn't get enough joy rides on [The Punisher's?] motorcyle, come to think of it.
-
so, we know they like the bad boys....
E, like I said, get a shotgun.
