Books / Hey, YA People
« on: May 10, 2004, 12:16:04 AM »
My sister's trying to find out what the name of a book is.  She remembers reading the summary on the back cover, but was never able to find it again.

It was a fantasy book about two sisters, one who was adventurous and one who wasn't.  The adventurous one gets sick, and the other one has to go find some kind of magical flower/medicine that will cure her.

Suggestions Box / Hey, Sprig

I uploaded a comic archiving file to my site in a directory called 'EOC.'  Want to see if you can get it to work?  There's a readme file in there, and I tried to make things work, but I got lost pretty quickly.

There's a sample comic in the archives directory.

Everything Else / I have returned!
« on: May 08, 2004, 01:09:52 AM »
Well, I'm back.  Palm Springs was nice, but I think I prefer northern California.

Anyone commented on my new avatar yet?  Because it really cracks me up.

That's what Sprig gets for loaning me his digital camera with some old pictures still loaded on it....

Everything Else / Tage's Monkey

All right, who started that silliness, so I can go smack him.  This smells of your doing, Sprig.

I'm surprised Tage hasn't said anything yet.  Maybe we should ALL change our avatars to be variations on a picture of him....

Music / What's Playin'?
« on: April 26, 2004, 10:00:01 AM »
So, I wanted to take a little different thread from the 'what are you listening' thread.  Instead of listing general things you're listening to, go to your player and hit the 'next' button on shuffle, then post what comes up.  (If you dare.... )

--Note, this will probably work best for those of us who have massive playlists with lots of random junk on them.

Writing Group / More Help from Da Ladies
« on: April 26, 2004, 08:23:45 AM »
Hey, womenfolk (or those of you menfolk who might know) what do you call that hair style where you have long, straight hair but you...uh, separate it.  Not a braid, but a little thing on the back of your head that makes some of your hair fall differently from the rest, giving it a kind of two-tiered look.  Usually the upper tier is smaller than the lower tier, and it falls down flat, eventually melding with the rest of the hair.  Is that just a different kind of tail, or what?

Does anyone have ANY clue what I'm talking about?  Because I think I just confused myself.

Everything Else / Sticky Topics?
« on: April 20, 2004, 08:29:50 AM »
What do you guys think?  Should we make some of the topics in the "Rants" and "Everything Else" sections sticky for easy location?  I'm thinking "Cool stuff found on the internet", "These stupid titles", and the two quotes threads.

I'm a bit divided on this one.  On one hand, I would like to be able to find the topics easily.  On the other, I get a little annoyed when I click on the 'News' section and immediately hit the first thread, only to realize later that it doesn't have anything new in it, it's just at the top because it's sticky.  This is probably just because that's the only section with any stick topics right now.

Everything Else / TWG Hall of Fame
« on: April 20, 2004, 08:27:01 AM »
Well, inspired by SE and Sprig, I decided to start up a thread where we can compile the best moments from the message board for easy, future reference.

A couple of ground rules.  I'm going to adjudicate this one--so if you post something that I think was too harsh or offensive to another board member, I'll delete it.  Second, I'll be the final judge of what gets retained for posterity and what doesn't.  Third, you can't post a quote by you yourself, and you can't post anything that isn't an exact cut and past from another thread on the forum.

Keeping those things in mind, feel free to post!  Any time someone says something you find particularly clever and/or amusing, clip it and put it here.  You'll be doing your fellow board-members an honor, and it will be a nice way to give someone else a good 'thumbs up' for contributing to our enjoyment.

Writing Group / Violence
« on: April 19, 2004, 06:30:40 AM »
I'm curious about how you all regard the use of violence in your own works.  What exactly is 'glorifying violence?'  I like a good action scene, myself, but sometimes I worry about the things I put into my books.  How much is too much?  When is it 'justified?'

Books / A question for you comic book people
« on: April 16, 2004, 05:26:56 PM »
Why is it, in comic books (and sometimes in webcomics) that the authors decided to bold virtually every other word in their dialogue?  This has always been one of the things that has always kept me from reading comic books.  The dialogue doesn't feel natural to me, because people just don't put stresses in their speech that often.

Okay, I got my membership acknowledgement today.  That means I'm officially an uber-nerd.

So, anyone else already bought their ticket?  I'd kind of like to know who I can count on going.  Remember, the price jumps up again in a few months.

Everything Else / My Brother is Insane
« on: April 12, 2004, 09:27:24 AM »
So, Sprig's gone bonkers.  He claims that because he doesn't have a database on my webiste to begin work on, he's bored and is sticking random themes, blocks of text in strange languages, and strange graphics up on my site.

Tage, could you please get him that database so he doesn't explode or something?

Webcomics & Free Stuff / Kevin and Kell
« on: April 12, 2004, 09:21:19 AM »
Several of you mentioned that you liked this comic.  Was my review fair?  What do you think?

(Remember, I'm planning to scale down most of the reviews, and so I gave this a 4.5 on the 'new' scale, as opposed to the old one.  I intend that to be a very good score when the reassessment is finished.)

Site News / Webcomic Review
« on: April 12, 2004, 08:34:08 AM »
I'm thinking I need to go through all of our webcomic reviews and reassess their relative ratings.  It seems we've got too much 'high-end creep' on the reviews.  Generally, I reviewed comics I liked, which is part of the problem.  However, I think that I need to go back through them all--even the ones I didn't write--and try and streamline them so that having a high score means something.

Before I do this, I have to make certain it's all right with everyone.  I might be changing scores for reviews I didn't write.  I'll include an 'Edit by EUOL' section at the bottom, explaining what I did, what the original grade was, and why I changed it.

Does anyone have any comments or objections regarding this?

Hey, how'd I miss this?  When did a webcomic review get posted, and who wrote it?
