I recently found this site that's much more descriptive then Whoclix on superheros, villains, event, groups, etc.
It's slower but much more detailed, it's not a clix site but a comic one and it's got many people that aren't in clix and some that are in Clix haven't been described.
These are links to the text based menus since the normal java based ones are quite slow.
