I was just on Amazon, and I saw that The Way Of Kings is due out August 31st, instead of the 17th. Can anyone confirm this?
-
It's true. August 31 is now the official date.
-
Cool. Thanks for the quick response, Peter.
(And congrats on the new baby)
-
Thanks!
-
Hey, that means I WILL be in Provo for the launch. AWESOME!
-
Excellent! More crazy people to party with!
-
FML, I'll be in Russia. Guess someone else has to dress up as Elvis

On a related note, somebody totally needs to make up some Elvis 'Way of Kings' dustjackets. ^_^
-
Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
-
For those who are disappointed, from what I gather, this delay is so bookstores like Barnes and Noble can really push Way of Kings with displays in the front of the stores. So, while it sort of sucks, Brandon is getting a colossal push, which is excellent.

The Canadian release will be synchronized with the American one I hope.
My copy is on order off of amazon already, however it's amazon.ca.

When I pre-ordered mine at one of my local bookstores they told it's release date was August 31st.
<edit>fixed grammatical brain fart.

How do you pronounce that? Thirty-firthsththt...?

OOOOOH. SNAP! Yeah, that happened to me 14 years ago too. (I forget which book, tho.)
-
Yeah, that happened to me with Well of Ascension.
-
I'm wondering if a stringent embargo will be placed over the book, because chances are, if we preordered it off amazon or whatever, it may still arrive a little early. I've never known the first book in a series to be embargoed, so I doubt it, but still...
I have no hope of getting it early, though, because I live in Australia, and ordered the American edition from a British website (free postage ;) ). The reason I did that was because of the not-as-good cover art put on the British edition. The style worked for Mistborn, but definitely not with Stormlight. Michael Whelan's cover is definitely one of the best Whelan works I've seen.
-
It will be embargoed as much as Tor can embargo it. They hope it will hit high on the NYT list, so they need all the sales to happen in the release week rather than before.
(I don't think it WILL hit particularly high on the NYT list but you never know.)
-
I'm betting it will be a #1 by Book 2.
Quote me all you want on it.
-
Again, the Illuminating Peter Ahlstrom saves the day.
Fingers crossed it gets high on the NYT Bestellers list. Mr. Sanderson deserves No. 1.
-
Wow. Just noticed this on Facebook and had to come here to read more about it.
So due to the change of date, there is an extremely good chance that I'll be able to attend. This is good news. For me, anyway. Was that duel still being planned? (If you don't know what I'm talking about, you're not in the "know". Those who know, know. :P ). My interest in co-reffing is still there, if it is (still being planned).
-
Kendra, it'd be exciting if you are.
As for the duel, I don't know. There's rumors that the book will be the sanderson origianal for next year, so it might be smart to save it for the release of the actual book. We'll have to talk it out with Chris.

Where is this rumor coming from?? That would be awesome!
-
Noooooo!!! August 17th was perfect! By the 31st I'll be in over my head with graduate work.... Blast. :(
-
Can I get a time and address on that release? Cuz Provo is less than an hour from me and I now realize that I can go! Aah!
-
I'm betting it will be a #1 by Book 2.

I'm sure you'll be quoted on this, either way. ;)
-
Fireborn, unless I'm very much mistaken the release will be at the BYU bookstore. the time, midnight. :D
-
That's the midnight going into the 31st, yes? I've never done something like this before!
-
I can confirm the release party at the BYU bookstore the evening of the thirtieth. I asked the nice people working there today. There was some confusion about whether it would start at midnight or ten. I'll want to show up several hours early anyway, so as to obtain a low number. (I assume he's going to number these, yes Peter?)
-
Thanks for the up date....
-
Yes, there will be a numbering system similar to previous book releases.

I'm counting on it.
Oh, look at that!
-
OK, he's going to be here in Portland on the 13th. Should I buy and read the book before he gets here, or buy it AT the signing? I suppose he would rather have more sales right off the bat than at the signings, huh?
-
AllWrong, it's best to buy the book at the store he's going to be signing at, and keep your receipt and bring it to the signing.
-
I'm keeping 25 bucks set aside for the night of the 30th. But then I'm gonna go to the signing on the 31st at the Barnes and Noble that I live, literally, five minutes from. Two doses of Sanderson in 24 hours! Yes!
-
Peter, does Brandon have a limit on how many things he will sign? I will have the ARC for WoK, the release version, mistborn series and a warbreaker that I want signed. Or would it be better to have him sign just a couple of those?
-
Brandon will sign a whole stack of books if you bring a stack (as long as they're all written by him). But when there's a big crowd, to keep the line moving along he will personalize only three books per time through the line. So for books above the third one he'll do his signature (looks like a scribble over his name, usually) but won't write "to mycoltbug" or anything extra. If you want that you can go back to the end of the line and wait through it again. :)
-
Peter,
I am assuming that one of the three personalized books would include WoK? Or would WoK be seperate, as it featured book?
-
One of the three.
-
That's what I was afraid of.
Oh well, will have to decide what I want to do, going to bring all his books (minus the Alcatraz novels) for signing. Would like them all personalized. Hopefully the store won't have too long of a line.
Thanks.
-
Hopefully the store won't have too long of a line.
Are you kidding? It's BYU...nobody goes to sleep early there...(I remember grocery shopping at 1:00 a.m.). Odds are, if there's a light on, there'll be plenty of people there. Once they realize they can't buy candy in the store, though, they'll go home.
I saw somewhere else that the last signing only ran until 3:00, though, and that was WoT, so you're probably okay.
-
I'm not going to BYU, a little too long of a drive for me. :D
Edit: So is that limit of three personalized signed books only for BYU?
-
Hobbun: What was said was when there's a long queue at a Brandon signing each person on reaching the front of the line is allowed only three personalisations in order to make the queue go faster, they may have more if they go through the line again. This is not just for BYU but for anywhere that has a long queue.
-
Ok, that's what I thought Peter had meant. But then BYU was brought up again specifically, so I wanted to clarify.
Thanks.

will the audio book of Way of Kings be out the same day? Sometimes they come out later.

Amazon has it marked for release on the same date. Dunno if that's official or if amazon is just guessing, but since it's the only info i have, i'm assuming it's so.
