Title: Poetry Contests
Post by: Rane on January 15, 2009, 12:06:39 AM
So, I need to enter a poetry contest by Friday, and I was wondering if anybody knows of a good contest for a high school student to enter that doesn't have any entry fees.  Please share any you can think of.

National Manningham Poetry Contest.  No idea when it takes place, though.

Make sure you take a close look at the rules and stuff of those poetry contests before you submit to any of them. I don't think Writer's Digest is necessarily that choosy about what it advertises, and you want to make sure you don't want to tie up the rights to your work or lose money or anything like that in a bogus contest.

You might wanna try consulting the local newspaper, or asking your english teachers, or something, if they know of any reliable contests locally. I actually won a fair bit of money (for a 12-13year old, anyway) doing local poetry and essay contests in high school. I doubt the Royal Canadian Legion poetry and essay contests are applicable where you are though. ;)
