Brandon Sanderson / Re: Mistborn Anime
« on: March 16, 2010, 09:37:32 PM »
I think it's time we blow this scene. Get everybody and the stuff together. Okay, 3, 2, 1, let's jam.

Back on Mistborn though, Animation, and especially some Anime conventions, could work really well with it.  Especially the emotional metals.  Live action would have a hard time showing them being used, but I could totally see an anime coming up with a visual cue or something for that.  I don't really care how it's done, the only rule I have for a Mistborn feature is that AWESOME has to be the number 1 priority.

This reminds me though, I totally need to watch the rest of Tri-gun.

I actually don't understand why people value signatures at all. I don't get it.

I guess it is just me, since most people seem to find them valuable.

Me neither, but I would love to signed copies of Wheel of Time and Mistborn because they are two of the top 10 series I have ever read, and I have read many, many series. Being as Mr. Jordan has passed away it would be difficult to get the Wheel of Time and since Mr. Sanderson lives most of the way across the USA from me and I live in a small town that a signing will never come to. But, I always keep my eyes out on ebay and Mr. Sanderson's site.

Eagerly awaiting Mr. Sanderson's new books , Towers of Midnight and starter of his new epic fantasy ( name escapes me ).

That's The Way of Kings, first novel of The Stormlight Archive.

Brandon Sanderson / Re: Larasium?
« on: March 16, 2010, 12:06:14 AM »
All the side effect talk actually came from one of the annotations if I remember correctly.  Then someone asked Brandon what would happen if a mistborn burned it, assuming its allomantic effect to be its primary effect.  The answer was that the mistborn's allomantic powers would be permanently increased, which led to some disappointment after all the side effect speculation.  But now that you mention it, no one bothered to find out about it's feruchemical or hemalurgic effects.  ... My initial reaction was to think that Brandon made a bad call here when he called it a side effect, and move on. But the crazy fandumb epileptic trees part of me wonders if there's something deeper here.  As far as Lerasium spikes go, it makes sense that if you can use Atium in Allomancy, you should be able to use Lerasium in Hemalurgy, but getting several powers at once almost seems too powerful.  Then again, the god metals don't seem very well matched.  One grants allomancy/increases allomantic strength, while the other lets you see the future?  Hmm...  Hey!  If we go with the several powers at once theory, that would make each god metal the most powerful metal in the other's magic system!  What madness is this?

Sorry for rambling.   :D

Side note: I am most likely completely wrong/reading way too much into things in my theorizing.

I've never read it, but I think the cover looks awesome.  Maybe I just don't spend enough time in the fantasy section...

I would just like to say, *ahem* Hooray for Bridge Crews!  Also, I really like the cover.  Maybe I'm just biased toward Brandon, but that thing screams, "EPIC!"  If a poster is made of the entire wrap-around, I will totally buy that.  (Assuming I'm not broke.)

Brandon Sanderson / Re: Mistborn question

Warbreaker is generally considered his best-written book, though it is not as epic as Mistborn.  Even without WoK and the rest of SA, he's got a huge list of rough drafts/outlines/ideas that he still plans on writing.  Like, wow, that's a lot of books.  Maybe more Mistborn in five years at the absolute earliest, and that's not likely.  We're going to have a lot more to read from Brandon before we get more Mistborn.  Mistborn is my favorite of his books though, so I can totally sympathize.

If you poke around the forums much, you should be able to figure out who the recurring character is. (Hint: There are threads named after him.)  But if you want to figure it out for yourself, read Elantris and Warbreaker, and if you're paying attention, you might recognize the name.  Especially in Warbreaker, where he shows up for several pages.  Also, I know for a fact that he is getting a viewpoint in Way of Kings.  I imagine that after that is when most casual Brandon fans are going to catch on.  Unlike us crazy stalker people.

I've wondered about the whole "tie everything together series" myself.  If it does happen, it won't be for many, many years.  I bet Brandon has something even more awesome in mind though.

I was under the impression that he still gets on occasionally, but he doesn't post.  In fact, it looks like he was on just a few days ago.  Of course that may have been Peter.

Dangit Brandon, now I have to wait until the book is actually published. >:(  Out of random curiosity, did this epilogue involve Hoid?  I want to know if I inspired him to do this.  The way he said it made it sound like he'd never thought of reading Hoid's part, and then decided to do so right then and there.  Also, I'm mad at myself for making the epilogue un-sum-up-able, and mad at myself for missing it.  Of course, if Hoid is not involved, it's not my fault.  I'm probably deluding myself by even considering the idea.  ... I can't believe I let myself miss this! >:(

So, I attended Brandon's reading this morning at BYU.  Afterwards, when he was signing my tattered Mistborn Paperbacks, I asked him if Hoid were hiding from something.  He said, (and I paraphrase) "Kind of.  He is also looking for something.  But he certainly doesn't want to attract the wrong type of attention."  He then informed me that Hoid has a viewpoint in TWoK, and then mused aloud that his section might be a good one to read at his second reading today at 5:00.  I don't know that I'll be able to make it, but somebody here is going to, right?

There's a Sci-Fi/Fantasy event at BYU this Weekend, and Brandon's coming.  They've got his name up on a poster and everything.  Apparently the rest of the Writing Excuses cast is coming too.  He'll probably blog about it soon(if he hasn't already.)
