Okay, I get it.  No one has any advice.  Cool.  Um... I guess no one had time to drop in and say, "Hey guy, sorry but there's nothing you can do about that."  Just, ya know, thought I'd ask. :'(

Moggle, I'm with Kaz on this one.  Every post you make is for the express purpose of arguing with/being rude to the other forum-goers. I admit, I haven't scoured the website to check all of your posts, but what I've seen doesn't give a very favorable impression.

I'd recommend finishing Warbreaker and then reading Elantris, just so you can be caught up to all the normal people who only read published books. :D  Also the Alcatraz books.  Every time I read them in public I have to look around sheepishly a lot, because I keep laughing.  BYU has the only publicly available copy of Dragonsteel in existence, but Brandon is lifting large chunks out of that to use in WoK and the rest of TSA, so I'm not sure reading it is a good idea.  Didn't stop me though. :P

I didn't, but given our current understanding of the Cosmere, that doesn't seem likely to be relevant.  Unless all Aons are named after people with shards, in which case the number of shards would simply be astronomical. (Lots of Aons y'know.)

Got up to book 5-6 in WoT before my elitist older sister essentually shattered the fantasy genre for me by  describing the near entirety of first book using only fantasy cliche's (and having never read it).
Hey, cliches aren't bad.  There are so many of them it's practically impossible to avoid prominent use of several at once in everything.  Seriously, go check out tvtropes.org.  When you've had enough of reading through that staggeringly huge list that's actually more for stories in general than TV, come back and take this to heart: cliches are not bad; what really matters is the style, details, and execution, all of which the Wheel of Time does superbly.

^^This.  For a great deal of insight into how EVERYONE uses what are essentially cliches (Which, again, is not a bad thing) search for Brandon on that website, and then click on the links to his books.  Well, maybe just Mistborn, because they tend to have a lot of spoilers.  (Their is usually warning, but I can't help but highlight things.)  Also, I second the vote to read Elantris.  Sarene is a very strong female lead.

I'm pretty sure we qualify anyway.

Yeah, but then someone asked him what would happen if a Mistborn burned Lerasium, and he said that it would double their Allomantic strength.  Those that heard were kinda disappointed.  Peter mentioned that maybe "Side effect" wasn't the best way to say it.  I believe this whole thing actually comes from the WoA Annotations.

Brandon Sanderson / Re: questions about brandon

I have never heard of a college having a SFF magazine. Do they have an English degree for people who want to write this? Having so much SFF at a university that many of us percieve as being very religious is kind of odd. Does this ever come at odds with BYU administration?
You don't just perceive it as being religious, it IS religious.  Fortunately, the religion in question happens to have a very favorable view of the arts, up to and including fantasy literature.  Brandon has his own little shelf in the bookstore. (Last I checked, they still have some signed WARBREAKER hardbacks, and a whole pile of TGS.)

I think if anything, the quality of the BOOKS dictates how crappy the movie will be. Of course that's not the case for every book turned movie franchise, but it's probably a good rule of thumb for most.

So, wait.  The better the book, the worse the movie?   ??? Maybe it's possible to make a good movie from a bad book by changing things around so that it is unrecognizable, and to make a bad movie from a good book by doing the same thing, but if the major themes are intact, and the details are good, there's no reason an excellent book can't be made into an excellent movie.  Or maybe I'm completely misunderstanding you.   ???  So much confusion!  ... Really, after typing all that, now I'm starting to think you were agreeing with me.  Aghh!  These forums are Ruined Forever! :P

Either that or we're all scared of Peter.  I speculated about Hoid's place in Dragonsteel (not to mention my first signature), and Peter jumped me!  He didn't say anything scary per se, but it sure scared me at the time.  I felt like a complete moron/loser for hours.  In hindsight, I was acting pretty foolishly.  But no more! :-X

Can we get the Department of Redundancy Department, please?  Thanks.  Sorry, the opportunity was too perfect.  I'm done now.  Oh, and it's entirely possible to edit previous posts.  So, technically, you CAN take it back.  ... I don't see anything wrong with Fraser.  He doesn't seem to fit any of the characters really well, but his involvement doesn't automatically make something bad.  In any case, Brandon trusts these people to make a good movie.  Have a little faith Moggle! ;D

Hey man, don't judge it before you see it.  At least wait to see if it actually gets off the ground.  When everyone here has seen a trailer, if you still don't like it, then you can complain.  Also, (while I'm being bossy) let's avoid saying that the movie somehow has the power to ruin the books forever.  The quality of the books is independent of the movie.  Plus I don't like it when people say, "Ruined Forever!" >:(

Okay, I'm good now. :)

Though, ook posts quite often, and I'm sure he knows exactly as much as brandon on any given subject (being his assistant and all) so we may as well be getting it "straight from the horses mouth" so to speak when he says anything.

Guessingo, Peter Ahlstrom used to post under the name Ookla the Mok, just so you don't wander the boards for hours looking for Ook.  Like Eerongal said, Peter knows all.

Oh, that.  Somewhere deep in one of these threads, Brandon mentioned that Shadesmar was the name of the Cognitive Realm.  That had me confused too, until someone went through the trouble of pulling it out for me. :P  So, sorry but, yes, you need to go into Realmatic Theory to understand it. ;)  Presumably, all worlds are connected to the Shadesmar, but I guess SLA is going to be the first series to use it in any way.  (I think I found this in the Hero of Ages Spoiler thread.)
*Edit* After searching long and hard... I still haven't found it.  It's somewhere in one of these threads though!
