So i thought you guys might be interested in this : a series of articles where IGN sound out developers of RPG games on what they think of storytelling, and linear and freeform modes thereof.
Part 1 (http://rpgvault.ign.com/articles/441/441165p1.html)
Part 2 (http://rpgvault.ign.com/articles/441/441617p1.html)
Part 3 (http://rpgvault.ign.com/articles/442/442364p1.html)

Since the article (which I read yesterday, as it was linked from the Fallout head designer's new site) is about computer RPGs, I moved it to Video Games.
It is, by the way, a very interesting article, with some interviews from very influential game developers.

apparently, I'm far too impatient to read it, possibly just my current mood. If I felt like i could print it and sit in a chair instead of looking at my screen, I'd probably get more out of it. What I DID read though is cool. I like how the writers are trying to go. Those are good directions

See, I read all of them, and had some thoughts of my own as i did. But I didn't want to post to the thread when nobody else had, and now I cannot remember them. Sucks.

As long as we're at it, here are a couple new development studios to watch:
Obsidian Entertainment (home of most of the ex-Black Isle Studios people):

Flagship Studios (home of the those who walked away from Blizzard North):

The "Rumor" floating around is that obsidianent is developing KoTOR2 for Bioware.
