Drop the bomb...
« on: September 06, 2003, 12:42:35 AM »
Or how I wanted to start something, but didn't know how to start it.

So I was thinking, lets start a "camp fire tale". We'll get 4-6 people who want to do it, will try their damnedest to get it done in a week, and just have a good old fashioned timey.

I forgot what else I wanted to say, but ya. I think this is a good idea. Lets see how many others are interested.

ok, i'm in (weak! I am so weak!) What's the genre/subject/theme? or are we going to define all that. Should we just start witha title? or let the first person have carte blanche?

Well I'd like to do a fictional modern thing. A la Gaiman's "Neverwhere" and "American Gods."

Title can be a group thought. What else am I forgetting?

We tried this a long time ago. 42 started it, and managed to be utterly snobbish to Isimir at least twice. Was interesting, but not for the story, more for what people posted in response(ie, how they tried to shift the story).
If you're ever in an argument and Entropy winds up looking staid and temperate in comparison, it might be time to cut your losses and start a new thread about something else :)

Well I will in no way be snobbish about anything. I'll try and keep peoples conduct if the story shifts a way they don't like. I want it to be like a camp fire story. So what will most likely happen is a shift someone won't like. And thats fine. You don't like it, then move on. Tell me you don't want to do it anymore, and we can let the next person waiting to jump on the bandwagon.

Whatever, my train of thought goes in and out. If I think of anything else I'll mention it.

I'd recommend a couple basic rules, stuff that should be obvious but isn't always:
Like, not significantly deviating from the established setting/etc. ie, If someone is a dangerous foe, he shouldn't be a cakewalk later

You may also want to establish min-max post sizes. Although the msg board itself takes care of a max size, so maybe we don't have to worry about that. Just a thought, not a sermon.

Ok, I'll get around to doing the rules later and put it in a thread called "Camp Fire Stories." Not sure where I should put it though.

We could use an editor of sorts. Someone who can check out the persons story before its posted. Then if theres anything that doesn't seem to adhere to the rules they can be given a day or two to fix them. Eh?

Editor might be going too far... but you make the call. We can always point out problems on a secondary forum and then the author can go in and correct them.
