So the soundtrack just came out in japan and I've been listing to it at work and I must say, while I like Uematsu, I think so far this is much better then anything he's ever done as a whole (ie all the music from a single game). It's about time the music from that series moved away from the 16-bit era into the modern era.
It basically sounds like a mix of FF (since it uses some of the themes from other games) and star wars.
-
Where do you find this soundtrack?
-
In Japan duh, there's a magic wardrobe in my apartment that takes me there when I walk through it.
-
Is magic wardrobe another term for Kazaa, or generic piracy or something the like?
-
No. Don't insult me.
It was a torrent, but since FFXI isn't out yet, the sound track or the game, in the states there's no theft involved. You can't steal something that's not protected under US laws.
-
You don't feel that international laws don't extend to Americans either, then?
Great! We should start a club!
:P :D
-
No it's more I would, and do when I can, buy VG soundtracks if they're avalible for purchase. I'll be buying the US version of this soundtrack when it comes out in November.
-
Thanks for the head's up on the new sound track. It sounds awesome and can't wait to hear it.

>>Has friends in Japan<< ((Muaha))
I just went and put the collector's edition of FFXII on reserve today... I can't wait for October 31!!!

You... just shut up. Stop it. Stop. No. Never again. Stop what you're doing and throw the computer into a busy section of highway. I'm going to rip you hands from your wrists and place them elsewhere. I am cranky and wish to not be burdened by your medlesomeness newbie ways. This is not "I wish to be making things that will interest myself and hope others will find interest in them to so I make with the stupid and stuff." Go lurk at Somethingawful.com or 4chan.org some more.

I just downlaoded it and I agree. It is some of his best work. My favorites are FF VIII and VII and now this one.
-
Uematsu isn't the composter this time, FFX was his last score for the series.
-
oh wow, no wonder it was a big change. Who is the new composer.
-
I just realized that due to the Wii this will be the first Final Fantasy game since..well..Final Fantasy 1 for the NES that me or EUOL haven't bought on release day. That includes FFXI (the online version) Heck I'm even planning on getting the DS FF3 via amazon (yea! Associate cash) on release day even though it will only be shipping on release day.
Who knows maybe I'll save enough to get it as well but considering I'm getting Zelda with me Wii I probably won't have time to play FFXII, though that would make EUOL happy since he's mentioned he wants to borrow the PS2 after he gets back from Spain.
-
Well I decided to order this with Amazon money so I should be getting it in a week.
-
so I'm almost half way through ff12, and I gotta say, I was skeptical, but I think it's one of my favorites now. also I'm enjoying the middle eastern and mediterranian theme... finally I have some reference points.
-
My order just shipped today so I should get it Wednesday, glad to hear you're enjoying it. Â Helps alleviate a little what Gabe said last week.
-
What Gabe said today helps alleviate what Gabe said last week.
I'm only a handful of hours into it, and I'm also completely converted to it. No matter how much you read about the new battle system, there's just no way to really "get it" until you use it in a boss battle. It *is* the good old FF battle system, just re-interpreted. And it's every bit as deep and strategic as anything they've ever done. I'm enjoying it immensely.
-
also mist chains are entirely amusing.
-
Brandon should sue Square-enix for them taking something that sound's like its from Mistborn.
-
well the mist chains refer to gathering and releasing vast amounts of "mist" which is a reference to the supernatural fog of soul fragments that permeates the world, a convention from ff9.

Few thoughts,
It's pretty much WoW as a single player game, story's good but I hate all the running if I'm not in the mood for it. Graphically it's great, so is the Voice Acting, you really can't do much better in the PS2, I'm totally impressed by the level of background detail in the cities and such.
Gambits are fairly worthless, I only have two set up for all my characters (attack leader's target and heal if Allies HP<30%) and never have to manage anything except in boss combat. Not really sure why you need 10 slots. Summons are cool but don't care for mistings, not that cool looking nor that fun to time.
I like the license board but LP are too easy to get, I'm only about level 24 and all my characters have over half their boards filled up in the abilities section, haven't bothered much with weapon's or armor since there's no point in buying them until you actually get the item.
It's a fun game but now I've got it, Zelda and NWN 2 to play (my roommate bought it but can't run it on his PC) so I don't even know what to do with my game time.
