Brandon Sanderson / Re: The Countdown

The first big change could come in the form of stars being visible at night. What better way to let the skaa know they don't have to fear the night than to provide a light?

The only way Marsh dies is if he pulls the spike himself, which would be like Kelsier unflinchingly giving up his own life for the good of skaakind.

That is a pretty intense theory.  I never thought of that. . . but then why the metal spikes?

Honestly, I was just throwing something out there to match some of the other speculation. I am still trying to form my theory about Hemalurgists. Perhaps when a Mistborn burns metal or a Feruchemist taps a metalmind, they give off power which can be collected by the spikes of a Hemalurgist. This would explain why their rooms would be so close to the Lord Ruler's throne, because he is always burning age, which they could use to keep themselves alive longer. For Zane, it could be that his spike feeds off atium, so when he burns it, he only needs to burn it very slowly because he has it's effects doubled. Who knows. THere's still much to think about and discover.

Piccard, thats classic. I don't know if I would take offense to that even though im not french.

His  name was Jean-Luc, hence the joke that he never understood. You would think Picard would be known worldwide but alas, no.

I was actually friend and coworker with a french man whom I called Picard. I used to tease him quite a bit but he never fought back; he did teach me a bunch of new jokes though.

That reminds me of a joke.

How many Frenchmen does it take to defend Paris?
Nobody knows, it's never been tried.

Don't even get me started on French jokes. Gotta love a country who's most celebrated war hero was a woman from the 1400s, betrayed by her own countrymen.

You need to get an old-style British schoolgirl outfit, with a heavy sweater and thick tights.

Mmmmm, you'll have to PM me with more details.

What if Hemalurgy was actually cannibalizing your own body, as has been suspected and to see into the future like Atium you have to cannibalize your past memories? If you flared too far into the future, you could lose large parts of your past and eventually forget who you were, knowing only pain.

I think the reason he gets targeted by bullies is because he wears the schoolgirl outfit.

They're just jealous.

Having a stockpile might support the theory that he doesn't need Atium, because he never had to burn it. However, I'm not sure that I agree with this theory. I'm still trying to theorize what Hemalurgy entails so I will sit on the fence at the moment. The thing about schoolgirl outfits is that they provide no protection to splinter from a wooden fence.

I'd be Captain Demoux because I have been preaching Kelsierism to everyone I know. And also, this one time I suddenly felt a surge of power enabling me to beat up the 4th grade schoolyard bully. At that moment I knew someone out there was helping me and that Vanessa would never mess with me again. Ok, I didn't beat her up but I did prevent her from giving me a wedgie and while she did keep picking on me, that all stopped when I started hanging out with an older person on the playground. Although Vanessa did start again in the 9th grade when my mom stopped being a recess attendant, but by that time I had learned to cut my underwear with a scissors so that they pulled out cleanly without hurting me. I eventually got even when I posted some rather rude comments about her on my myspace page; It was worth having to sleep on the couch though. Ahhh, Kelsierism, there's always another secret.

I believe he leaves the stash behind with his mistcloak, but it is never mentioned that he actually takes any beads.

I thought he took both when he left the last time and eventually fought Vin.

Numerous is a big word for so few instances. Also, Kelsier mentions that your body has already learned to balance, hence the ability to hover directly above a coin; the same theory would apply here. When Kelsier and Zane shoot the coins to get in a pushing match with Vin, their goal is to push the coin exactly where Vin either has to move herself to push the coin at an angle or overwhelm her with their own push. It's not like there aren't plenty of areas where Vin has pushed the coins out of the way or anything.

Except that I've read Scribbler

Thought you said they were going to break it into two books, in which case it may be new to you too.

BTW, the quote I was referring to was:

Quote from: MB1 pg 621
He had been awake for too long. Living as an Inquisitor drained the body, and he had to rest often. His brethren were already shuffling from the room, heading toward their rest chambers, which lay intentionally close to the throne room. They would sleep immediately; with the executions earlier in the day and the excitement of the night, they would be extremely fatigued.

Which begs the question. Why were they intentionally close to the throne room?

Quote from: EUOL
However, Hemalurgy DOES fit quite well with the third (mostly unmentioned magic system) used by the Steel Inquisitors.

This is a quote from Brandon's writers group when he is trying to find a name for the third magic. At that time, Hemalurgy was what the Keepers used. Their magic was renamed Feruchemy and Hemalurgy was moved to the Inquisitors.

Chaos, I agree with part of your theory, but what powers does Hemallurgy give you?  TLR's comments that Inquisitors are fabricated powers leads me to believe that it can be taken away if the metals are removed.  This is different from Allomancy, where once you have it, you have it for life.  I believe that the Sacrifice allows the metals to work in reverse, where the body's energy is drained to produce the metal's effects, instead of burning the metal.

That was my assumption as well. I think there was even a quote in MB1 that makes more sense if you picture it in that light. I'll edit if I find it.
