Jam Session #1: Kicking the Sandbag
« on: May 10, 2005, 11:59:08 AM »
Read it here: http://www.timewastersguide.com/view.php?id=1054

I've never played Super Smash Brothers, but I know the pain of trying difficult things over and over. Once I saved a game of Fallout Tactics right before a bomb went off and killed one of my guys--the only way to get him back was to start the whole mission over, and that meant hours of work. I loaded that save game a dozens of  times, perfecting the speed and angle of my run, until at least I escaped the bomb with my guy only Mostly Dead--which is, as you know, Slightly Alive. I was victorious! But then I lost the mission anyway, because I didn't have any rocket launchers.

I hate the Home Run contest for the same reason, Jam.  Hate it.

Super Smash Bros and it's sequel ate up an enormous amount of time with my friends and I in college.  If the N64 (or Gamecube) was on, that game was playing.  Ah, good times.

I feel your pain about the homerun contest, though you certainly have the right technique.

I'm actually borrowing my brother's GameCube at the moment. I've been wasting inordinate amounts of time on Ocarina of time and watching my boys play Mario Kart.
My brother loaned me four games with the GameCube and one of them is Super Smash Brothers. It's rated T so I haven't tried it out yet (my kids are freaked out by almost everything in Zelda). Is it worth my few hours of time after the kids go to sleep?

Wow JP, I can't believe that that mini-game is being so difficult for you to beat. It's actually rather quite simple once you get it down. You must have some high level of imcompetence when playing or something. Maybe it's the Russian Wine (aka, also known as, Vodka).

Super Smash Brothers an after the kids go to bed game?

Please let me laugh; SSB is one of the most harmless games I've ever seen. It's got a rating most likely because the point of the game is beating each other up. That said, it's no more violent than kids playing battles with action figures, and very comical in tone, unlike Zelda.

It's a great game, but I never liked the N64 one, only the GCN one.

it's probaly becasue she dosen't have time to play games until after her kids are in bed not that the game is to violent.

I quote: "It's rated T so I haven't tried it out yet"

The word "So" implies causation; She hasn't tried it out yet because it is rated T. The fact (Being rated T) is linked to the action (Not playing it yet).

She goes on to mention that her boys are "Freaked out' by Zelda, adding circumstancial evidence to the idea that playing it after they are in bed would be not to scare them with a game rated T.

Thankyou for listening to this pointless and annoying analysis.

Like I care what you think or what your made up rateing system means JP?  T may mean 'Teen' in your place of the world, and we all know how weird Auzie slang is, T means Tastey here in the states.

Actually, I know it's Teen because I saw it on a US website and in US gaming magazines.

In Australia, it's rated G (General), G8+ (8 years and older) PG (Parental Guidance Recommended) M (Recommended 15+) MA (Restricted 15+) and R (Restricted 18+).

For some reason, there is no R rating for video games, meaning anything that is too violent (that is, a video game that would receive an MA as a film) is banned entirely.

And is "Tastey" anything at all like "Tasty"?
