Title: Cynsations
Post by: stacer on June 21, 2006, 01:47:43 PM
I was recently interviewed for Cynsations, a children's literature blog run by children's book author Cynthia Leitich Smith. Here's the link:

Thanks. I enjoyed doing it. And it was nice to be able to plug some of my upcoming projects. :)

Very cool. From vet to social work to YA SF. Isn't it weird how career paths work out like that? I never thought, for instance, that I'd want to do anything other than teach English yet here I am doing another MA in Pub & Writing...

Lots of interesting stuff. I didn't know RH was your distributor. Do they distribute all WotC books or just YA? Anyway, I really liked your explanation of why you got into the genre:

"For me, fantasy tells stories in a way that realism can't. It's both a metaphor and an escape. When I was a teen, the last thing I wanted to read about was real life--I had enough of that going on around me."

I am sad there are links to other items you mentioned, but not to Leading Edge's Web site.  :'(

She added all the links, not sure if she looked for Leading Edge or not.

And Shrain, we just changed over to RH from Holzbrink (who distributes Tor as well) on Jan. 1. They distribute all our materials in the book channel (which includes game materials that go to B&Ns, for example). They have an entire sales force dedicated to children's books, though, which is really awesome. They have been great in giving us input.

That was good.

We should start a collection TWGer interviews.  You've got Stacer's, EUOL's and the ones Fell has with the man in his mirror.

I'm asking him to change his ways.

/me nods.

Yeah, I discovered Holtzbrink is Tor's distrib when I was researching the paper for my Book Pub class in2005--the same article I finally submitted to SE. It's pretty impressive the marketing force they can bring to bear.

I enjoyed the interview.  I'd read most of the books you recommended, but there were a few I've missed.  I'll have to go check them out.

There was an interview with me about TLE in one of the BYU alumni magazine issues.
