I Am Not a Serial Killer
« on: May 03, 2007, 05:41:00 AM »
The book is done! And not only is it done, but the character and story arcs have satisfying conclusions, in my opinion, which is new for me. I'm very pleased. It clocks in at just under 66k words--I suppose that if I truly cared about my craft, I'd write 900 more just to make it 66600, but this will do for now.

I'm sending it out now to a handful of preselected alpha readers, not to mention an editor I know, but I would appreciate some additional eyes. If you're interested in a YA horror novel about a sociopathic kid who hunts a demon, post your "reader resume" here.

I'm interested in giving it a read.

I don't know what on the "reader resume"

Let see:
I currently design games, write stories, edit stories, and illustrate stories for children in the pre-K to 1st grade reading levels.

I've done some work with 4th to 6th grade reluctant readers.

I have a background in child development and education.

I spent four years reading slush at Leading Edge.

I've spent 2 and half years working with mentally ill adults.

I know a couple of (former) serial killers.

I have a whole lot of education.

You know my reader resume. Give to me. Now

And, interestingly, I am not a serial killer either, but Jeffe and I did a 'zine called The Serial Killer

I'd like to read it.
All Saiyuki fans should check out Dazzle! Emotionally wrenching action-adventure and quirky humor! (At least read chapter 6 and tell me if you're not hooked.) Volume 10 out now!

I told my coworkers about this book and they asked me about you and I replied "He's a nice, normal guy" which means you're going to kill people.  In fact they were pretty dead serious about it too, which is strange because they're never serious.
Screw it, I'm buying crayons and paper. I can imagineer my own adventures! Wheeee!

Ookla, is the email address in your profile up to date? Or is there another one I should send it to?

Yup, I recently updated it. It's hidden, but I assume you have the powah to get around that.

Fell's normal?  Nice, yes, but normal?
If I had any clue, would I be here?

I'd like to read it.  Do I qualify?

Done reading it. I've sent you an email with my comments, but if you prefer I can give you my comments on small sheets of paper hidden in conspicuous places where only you will find them.

I definitely want you to read it Fish, but I've been holding off while I wait for a future secret plan. Never fear, however.

Parker and 42: thanks for your comments, you were both very helpful.

My plan is to finish reading it before I leave town on Tuesday, so look for my comments  in the mail early next week. In the meantime, I have one thing to say:

Please, please stop using em-dashes and semi-colons with wild abandon. I often find three or four of these in one short paragraph. That is just overkill. Please hold yourself back!

That is all for now.
