what's up with thelemur?
« on: April 05, 2005, 01:54:02 PM »
so maybe one of you guys knows what's going on with my site, or can point me in the right direction.

If I browse to www.thelemur.net (or thelemur.net) I get a simple message "could not connect to server"
If I browse to thelemur.net/phpwebsite (or any file in that folder) I get the default IE 500 error message
If I browse to commute.thelemur.net or donate.thelemur.net (or the other subdomains I have set up) I get the page that's there.
If I go to www.thelemur.net/indexold.html I get a page

Note that the default index failes for thelemur.net and thelemur.net/phpwebsite are .php files, so I thought that might be some kind of weird problem. But the index file for commute.thelemur.net is a php file too, and it works. My next suspicion is that www.thelemur.net/index.php is returning the single line "cannot connect to server" (since the sql database it used to use doesn't exit anymore), but that doesn't explain why IE is returning the full error message for www.thelemur.net/phpwebsite or www.thelemur.net/phpwebsite/index.php

Any idea why the server can't be found for a domain but it's subdomains work properly?

edit: oh, and I can ping the server and tracert it fine. I can see the folders for the domain fine when I ftp or ssh to the server, but I don't think that's necessarily helpful, since the main domain on the server is herbertlives.com and I think they share an IP address. herbertlives.com is working just fine.

Honestly, it looks more like your index.php got hacked or something, since it's kind of a funny error message. If that's not it, I'm not sure what it could be.

well, I'm figuring that's what's going on with the root index. But why do I get a DNS error if I go to the folder phpwebsite? That's just weird. I reinstalled the package, and I can get to the setup dir (which I deleted after installation, but couldn't get to the root folder after that. V. Strange.

http://www.thelemur.net/indexold.html is my doing SE, I copied over the old one when I modified your main to a PHP file.

I'll check your sites files when I have time today and see if they've been hacked.  I've got copies of most on my laptop so I can revert them easily enough.

well, I knew why there was an indexold, and pretty sure why it wasn't complete. it was the error message that concerned me more.

oh, and sprig, I moved thelemur.net to a different server with different login information. I have a lot more control on this one. i'll make you an account. Email me with the use/pass you want, and I'll apply that to phpMyAdmin and to ftp. I'll even make you an email address for thelemur.net or herbertlives.com if'n you want.

I realize the move means that the php stuff you did won't work exactly right, or even close to right maybe, since I didn't migrate any database info.

If you notice, the string of text between the Chinese is actually English backwards.

Who knows how the Chinese got in there.

My guess is that it's some sort of Unicode malfunction causing it to switch languages/input styles.

Hey SE, I noticed I'm getting a "Gallery has not been configured!" message on se.com/whatever the address to my gallery is. Did you set it up again for se.com or thelemur? Is it back up again and ready for me?

well, I UPLOADED a new package. It's not the same as the last package. I haven't configured it yet, as you might have guessed. But yeah, I finally got around to STARTING work on that.

So... SE and Sprig, what's the time frame? I am wanting to be able to show people pictures again soon. I really really really appreciate the free hosting, and I don't want to nag or anything, but if it's not going to go back up for several months or something I need to know so I can start looking for other hosting.
