Movies and TV / Doctor Who
« on: June 29, 2010, 01:45:41 AM »
Sorry if there's another post... I didn't see one when I looked.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone else had watched the season finale.  I was pretty disappointed with the new doctor, until about halfway through this season, and then, IMO, he just got better and better, until the finale is one of my favorite episodes of Who.

Anyone else?  Opinions of Matt Smith?  Amy Pond (whose real-life name, I cannot recall)?  Favorite episodes?  Least favorite?  Anything?

My PSN ID is Curmudgeous.  Don't have many games, but a couple of them have online.  GTA: IV, and I have MAG rented right now... might look into getting a copy.  Haven't played it a whole lot, yet, so I'm not sure.

Other than that, I have FFXIII, Bioshick, Heavy Rain, and 3D Dot Game Heroes (which might get traded away soon), none of which have online play.  Anyway, you can add me, or not.  Whatever works.  :-)

I haven't had a chance to play this game, yet, but I REALLY want to... I really enjoyed the little I played of the first and everything that comes out of Nintendo has quality in bunches.

Offtopic:

I must have watched too much Buffy, because every time I see the SMG abbreviation, I'm like "Sarah Michelle Geller?  What does she have to do with Videogames?  That's... ooh.... oh."  hehe

I liked Lost in Translation the best out of her films, but I hadn't even heard of it before I watched it.  No expectations.

Am I the only one that doesn't think that The Last Airbender looks alright?  I like the visuals we've seen, I like some of the director's other work, and I really like the source material.  I know it's going to be different than the cartoon, and it appears a lot less comical and endearing, and a little more... epic in scope.  I dunno.  I want to see it, at least, before I pass my judgement, but I like what we've been shown so far.

I do, however, have a tendency to be overly optimistic about upcoming movies, and they almost always disappoint.  <shrug>

Welcome to the fan-club Haiden.  I don't really have anything substantial to add to my post, but it's nice to meet you, and nice to know that Mr. Sanderson has more fans.  : )

Video Games / the 3DS

Is anyone else as ridiculously excited about this as I am?  All of the announced games look amazing, and I'm never sad to know another Kingdom Hearts game is coming.

I hear that the 3D aspect of it is mind-blowing - sadly, it won't work for me (I assume), since I'm blind in one eye, but still - exciting stuff from Nintendo.

I find it kind of funny that Nintendo is doing 3D, and camera MoCo through a handheld, and (seemingly) doing it better than Sony and Microsoft, respectively.  :-)

Yeah, I read about that.  It made me sad - I was so looking forward to that film...  I'm curious who will get signed on - hopefully it won't be anything too terrible.  It would make me sad to see 'The Hobbit' finally made, and be worse  than (or as bad as), say, Eragon.

I dunno... I would just always be wondering why he wasn't making out with Jewel Staite.  ; )

No, I think that's a pretty good call, actually.  I think that I'm going to read through those books again, and try to cast all the characters as Whedonverse actors.  :)  (probably not really... but it does sound kind of fun.  I'm behind on the Wheel of Time, though... and I really want to get through TGS before The Way of Kings comes out.)

What if we had Michael C. Hall as TLR?  I think that could work pretty well, too.

Yeah, I really think that would be brilliant.  : )

Sample of the recording of history? Sample of the person being looked at doesn't quite fit what he/they/it are looking for?

While on the subject of the quotes.. The number 10 is coming up way too frequently to be nothing. Ten orders. Ten gods mentioned in the prologue (which correspondes to the 10 beings in the prelude).

I think that "sample" refers to the quote itself.  They were calling the people "subjects", and I can't think of anything else that "sample" could logically apply to.  They could have changed their terminology mid-statement, but I just don't think they did.

Also, on the subject of the orders, what do you guys think that means?  Ten orders, like ten things someone told him to do?  Orders, like ten groups of people?  The first time I read it, I thought about it meaning the latter, but the second time, I assumed the former.  What do you guys think?

Summer Glau as Vin makes me happy.  Hopefully that happens.

Also, David Tennant as Kelsier is a great choice - not one that I would have considered, though, before it was pointed out.

The only thing that would make it better than that is if Joss Whedon wrote/directed it, in which case Summer Glau would be a shoe-in, and we would also have all sorts of crazy Whedonverse actors.  Hmm... Nathan Fillion for Kelsier?  <laughs>

Video Games / Re: favorite FF

As long as everyone else is posting on the zombie thread...

My favorite is IX, by a wide margin.  Behind it are IV, VI, and VII.  But IX really just takes the cake.  It is gorgeous, the characters are wonderful and quirky, the story is deep, but it is still so light and comical.  <shrug>

And I'd say that XIII is the worst one in the series so far.  The characters are annoying, or just empty, the storytelling is forced at best, and the battle system will happily play itself.  Sure, it's the most graphically advanced, but that means next to nothing to me.  <shrug>

I really enjoy the singer Poe, who few people seem to have heard of.  She did pretty well in the nineties, but her newest album was not well received for some reason.  <shrug>

Lots of stuff... I've really been in a Fiona Apple mood lately, though... and Fleetwood Mac.  I've got a thing for those husky sounding women... what can I say?
