Title: Under-rated, and Under-appreciated Movies
Post by: darkjetti81 on April 06, 2006, 10:28:16 PM
Post movies here that YOU feel were under appreciated and tell us why...

SERENITY:  is the newest one on the list.  If you havn't seen it, I suggest you at least rent this action packed movie.  It has an "Brave New World" type story to it, and beautiful actresses that all kick a little ass!
It's a Sci-Fi, where in the future an entity known as the Parlament takes government raign over the universe.  But they also tell people that they have a religion, when to walk not run, and how to live their lives.  So of course there is rebellion, and war!  check it out!  Oh and good Martial Arts too!

BoonDock Saints, Way of the Gun, and Momento (which was a poetic work of art)

Your describing a film there, but it isn't Serenity. Your describing star wars...

I like Star Wars too.  Huge fan.

Serenity is not the same plot line.  Although, it is in space and there is a government striving for total control.  Umm..  but there is no FORCE in the movie.  Only a girl who was brainwashed into a leathal weapon by the government.  She was surgically altered to be a psychic as well.  Good stuff.  So if you DO like Star Wars, check it out.  That's all I'm saying.

-Peace

I believe I own all the movies mentioned so far.  Not sure I would call any of them underrated, more like overrated for Serenity.  Some people might underrate Star Wars, but for the most part it gets due respect.

Momento is interesting the first time or maybe twice or rewatch years later.  Going backwards was interesting, they did it pretty clever, of course there was even a Seinfeld epside that did this so the idea alone isn't groundbreaking or anything.  Not enough to call it underrated anyway, especially since I hear it mentioned a lot.  Actual underrated shows I don't know, but I think it would be something more along the lines of Riddick or Hulk which get rated low by most people.

It would take me awhile to come up with a list of movies I find underrated that I'd actually hold up.  Overrated would be much easier, most difficult part there would be the fight for which ones got into the top ten (like say titanic, it is okay but considering the box office sales probably would end up in my top ten for that).

There's a difference between being underrated and just plain awful.  Underrated flicks are generally the ones that didn't get any attention in the theater but were dang awesome.  While I liked Riddick to the a point, the Hulk was horribly done, as was Daredevil and a couple other recent comic films, disappointingly.  Boondock Saints is an underrated for sure, as is Serenity.

As well as Six-String Samurai.

See, I was going to cite Titanic as being underrated. PG-13? Please. It so should have been R-rated.

*Puts finger to earpiece

Sorry, I've just been informed that "underrated" has a completely different meaning than I thought. We now return you to your regularly scheduled thread, currently in progress.

It's not deflectable. You are destroyed. Also, you didn't use the right format

*Faster laughs at Rosencratz for being pwned by e, and his inability to use the right format.

I just watched Shaolin Soccer tonight.  I enjoyed it, but Kung Fu Hustle blows it out of the water, IMHO.  It's rated R, but it really shouldn't be.  Unless you want to rate Looney Tunes R for violence . . .  Go see it.  Very funny, and superbly executed.

I really want to see it.. I dont' watch R, and I don't play M.. but I think I will make an exception.

As long as you don't mind a bit of cartoonish violence, go for it.  Be warned--the first scene has a leg getting lopped off (very fake looking, though).  After that, it's all pretty silly fun.

I saw LOTR and King Kong, after that, I don't think there is very much none ultra-gorey violence that can get to you.

Those savages are creepy.

But, yes, big difference in a comedy, I think I'll go grab it sometime, maybe for the weekend.

There you have it, just another nail in the coffin.

It's ok.. everytime I visit various sites, I note that most English/American schooled kids can't do it either.

Equilibrium (http://imdb.com/title/tt0238380/) was a fun movie that was also largely overlooked.

Indeed, I have to agree.  Equilibrium is one of my all time favorites.  If only it wheren't R
Kung pow: the legend continues was HORRIBLE/WONDERFULL/ALL OF THE ABOVE.  Steve Oedekerk did a wonderfull job with it.

I just saw Equilibrium a week or so ago.  Very nice flick--I especially liked the Gun-fu they had going there.
