You're not allowed to complain. I've already told you it's disturbing.
And it involves Severus Snape. (Completely clean, though)

I suppose if it didn't cut off suddenly it would go too long to be watchable.

Hum. I get nothing from the link.

The site's excedded it's bandwith for the day.

Alan Rickman must be rolling in his grave.

yes, and i was rewarded by soemthing truly frightening when it did come up. The fitful movements, the truly hideous mask, the retardation it must have taken to come up with the concept.... wow. so apt a link for a thread with this title...

errr I never expected you to post something like that sprig

I don't know why. I may be Mormon but I'm not a puritist. I found the name of the site rather funney especialy considering what they're doing. Made me chuckle.

and, after all, the thread is "DIsturbing" stuff found on the internet.

They are kinda cute--but I think I'd be more than disturbed if someone gave me one:

Me: Thanks! It's so cute, what is it?
Other person: the Ebola virus
Me: 0_o

Nothing says "Love" like the Ebola virus.

I'm so very upset that I ever looked at this (http://64.239.129.76/assets/users2/kurtz/default/gallery-msg-1085088154-2.jpg)
-
And yet SE you're the one that gets all worked up when Jeffe or someone else posts something with a mild sexual refrence in it. That is 10x more offencive then anything you've ever complained about.
-
At least he warned us...
-
I took the thread's tone as typical SE sarcasm not that there was anything offencive in it.
-
Oh, yah. That, on the internet scale of nastiness, is 3 out of 10. But since TWG is a 1 out of 10 zone, I am confused as to why you have posted it.
-
1) I don't get upset, I post a warning when Jeffe does it.
2) I cannot understand how you could take me saying something was disturbing, in a thread for disturbing stuff, as not being disturbing.
Uhm... that's all I have to say.
-
Yeah I know him and know he doest get upset... I take it as him trying to save all your Virgin ears and eyes.
I try to hold back my references and language (Saint knows it) and succeed very well here. You have to remember Im a sailor and a soldier (by profession) and my own personal language is a lot more colorful elsewhere. Its one of the things god and I have issues with. Anyhow, that was disgusting for Eric.

The most amusing thing is, they expect people to PAY for the digital gifts they give their digital girlfriend. At least, that's what the article claims.

There are already websites with that sort of thing. You send gifts to other users and pay for those digital gifts with real money. Some people have spent something like a grand plus on there.
Freaks.

more disturbing stuff relating to dogs, this from a realtor's web site (originally) but after attention was called to it, they apparently pulled it down and photoshopped it out. good thing Ryan at Quantz.com had it in his cache!

Here's something all you dang Mormons will find entertaining. It's an anti site, of sorts. It begins with the following accusation:
"The LDS "church" is one of the most confusiong denominations on earth, especially in that it masquerades as a "Christian" church, however the fact is that it is controlled, according to SEVERAL eye-witnesses, by shape-shifting "chameleon" reptilian humanoids, which continue to teach the original lie of the serpent, as spouted off to Eve in Eden, that "Ye shall be as gods". "

Not really disturbing in the way we normally use the word here, but this was just another example of how we can really take things to the point of absurdity.
Patricia Frankhouser filed a lawsuit in Jeannette, Pa., in November against the Norfolk Southern railway as a result of being hit by a train in January as she walked on railroad tracks. Frankhouser, who suffered various cuts and a broken finger, claimed in the lawsuit that Norfolk Southern should have posted signs alongside the tracks warning people not to walk on them, that trains might be coming. [Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, 11-5-04]
It was here (http://www.msnbc.com/comics/nw.asp?vts=112420041132), halfway down the page.
-
So, as I was searching for a battery for this video camera from the early 90's I happened upon something interesting, if not disturbing.
"The Internet Tax Freedom Act of October 21, 1998 only restricts the states from applying multiple or discriminatory taxes on Internet commerce. In other words, it prevents the states from passing new types of Internet-specific sales taxes, but it does not exempt Internet transactions from previously enacted state sales tax laws."
Ok, that's pretty cool. Makes me happy, feeling good, etc. Next sentence!
"The Internet Tax Freedom Act provides this protection through October 21, 2001."
Well, bummer. I have done no other research whatsoever on this, but I wonder if this has been re-whateverhastobedonetokeepthethinggoing so that such Internet-specific taxes can't be imposed upon the consumer! A bit disturbing.

Down in the description, it says "Up for sale is a CD jewel case suitable for any CD or DVD. Free with purchase is the Star Wars Holiday Special. Originally aired on November 17, 1978." Perhaps they get around it by saying it's free?

yes they do. It's a fairly common trick to get around copyright laws.

What the crap does Luxembuerg make?
From the CIA world factbook
This stable, high-income economy features solid growth, low inflation, and low unemployment. The industrial sector, initially dominated by steel, has become increasingly diversified to include chemicals, rubber, and other products. Growth in the financial sector, which now accounts for about 22% of GDP, has more than compensated for the decline in steel. Most banks are foreign-owned and have extensive foreign dealings. Agriculture is based on small family-owned farms. The economy depends on foreign and trans-border workers for more than 30% of its labor force. Although Luxembourg, like all EU members, has suffered from the global economic slump, the country has maintained a fairly strong growth rate and enjoys an extraordinarily high standard of living.

This should probably disturb me a whole lot more than it does. Instead I just find myself giggling.

Ook, that's hilarious. What I love is that they turned down an offer to settle for half that. I think some lawyers are going to be fired.

Fuzzy, is that site some sort of Onion-esque thing? There is a big controversy going on about Spelling right now, but it has nothing to do with Vt., it's because the Buster Bunny cartoon had a lesbian couple in it. (And if I'm being naive again, tell me, because I'm just not quite awake yet.)
-
yeah, it's at least partially satire, which always has a basis in reality. note the comment about the bottom that says that says "One of the quotes in this post is real and Not Made Up At All"
-
Yes, it's satire, though it wounds me to have to clarify that.
-
I dunno, I'm just very literal the last couple of days. Dang sinus infection. It's been over a month now. I think it's rotting my brain.
-
I'm starting to think that satire is the medium of the logically crippled. I mean, honestly, I haven't read any clever satire in years. I've heard nothing but mindless "everybody knows that gays are people too" invective over that buster bunny/lesbian couple thing.
If one wants to show that mainstreaming the homosexual lifestyle would be good for our society rather than bad, one should come up with a line of reasoning that carries more weight than, "you're mean and stupid if you don't agree"
-

TOKYO (Reuters) - A Japanese man has been sentenced to five-and-a-half years in jail for snatching mannequins used by a cake shop chain to tout its wares.
"Peko-chan," a round-eyed doll around the size of a six-year-old, has been used by Fujiya Co. Ltd. to sell sweets for five decades and her grinning countenance is a familiar sight in front of shops around Japan.
Recently, however, she has become a favorite of collectors, leading to a rash of "Peko-chan" snatchings.
Takeishi Shibuya, 31, was convicted of stealing 15 of the large dolls, valued at about 1.1 million yen ($10,170), a court official in Yamagata prefecture, northern Japan, said on Monday.
In several cases, Shibuya used pepper spray and spray paint to fend off store employees, leading prosecutors to demand a sentence of nine years in prison.
"But he has reflected on his crimes and feels bad about what he did, so the sentence was lighter as a result," the official said.
After a wave of "Peko-chan" disappearances last year, the company suggested chaining the dolls down, but customers complained that this would be cruel.
here's what pekochan looks like http://images.google.com/images?q=pekochan&hl=en&lr=&sa=N&tab=wi

because
a) it's illegal in 49 states
and
b) my love is a three way tie between him, Ray Davies, and Molly Ringwald

I saw that article earlier and meant to post it, I just wasn't sure where.
Sure it violates the free-agency of mankind, but it could be so useful. I just need to make sure I get control first.
-
I can see value in being able to control human beings. Prisons and courts could use such devises to increase inmate security. Court could also use them as an alternative form of punishment. They could have put one of those headsets on Martha Stewart.
In addition, it could keep my kids from messing up the apartment every 5 minutes.
-
One guy says it would be a useful nonviolent weapon. I suppose...
I have to agree with the conclusion of the author of the article--this makes me uncomfortable. Any type of "mind control" object seems to me to be just begging for trouble. Have we not read all the science fiction on this?

Yep. I just figured I ought to put my longer rave about the guy's "stunning" food collection over there rather than here. :) It's funny that I even came across the book. But I just had to buy it once I opened it up.
Incidentally, I was at B&N camping out in the humor section to do some research for the prof I work for. She's co-writing a humorous book about being a single mom, so she wanted me to see what's "hot" right now in terms of content, design, and all that. From the odd looks I got from other customers, they must've thought I was majorly depressed or something to be hoarding this huge stack of humor books while taking notes. lol.

Apparently Katie must be silent (http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2-2006140204,00.html) while giving birth.
So, two things:
1. I've given birth twice without an epidural and, um, I think a woman's head would explode if she weren't able to yell or scream or grunt or anything while doing something so difficult.
2. The rules were written by a man! Enough said.
-
A hypocritical man who didn't practice what he preached when it comes to medicine. Don't even get me started on how <censored> up Scientology is.
-
I feel constrained to repeat the legend that Heinlein once had a discussion with Hubbard on life and how to make money and they came to the conclusion that if you really wanted to make money you'd found a religion. Thus was born Scientology.
-
Sounds like as good an explanation as any, Skar. Either that or a lot of "elevated spiritual awareness") (i.e., peyote) was involved.
While I'd already heard about the Silent Birth mandate for Katie, I didn't know why--"Followers believe it is traumatic for babies to hear their mother scream or groan when giving birth. They think it can cause ?psychic? damage, which takes years of therapy to overcome." Apparently, there's yet another reason to blame mothers for kids' hangups. Oh, bruh-ther! :P

/me proceeds to kill all you moochers in Utah and Idaho
There is a small note that should be made though. I noticed, the last few times I was in Utah, that the low grade gas there is 85 octane, with mid-grade being 87. In my area, low-grade is 87 octane. This means that for a comparable product, you're in one category higher than it shows. However, you have the cheap stuff available, so I guess you still pay much less.

Not so disturbing as it is bizarre. I got this e-mail from amazon saying:
We've noticed that customers who have purchased The Sandman Vol. 5: A Game of You by Neil Gaiman also purchased books by B. G. Pachpatte. For this reason, you might like to know that B. G. Pachpatte's Integral and Finite Difference Inequalities and Applications, Volume 205 (North-Holland Mathematics Studies) will be released soon. You can pre-order your copy by following the link below.
Apparently Neil Gaiman has fans who are also into mathematics. This development is perplexing to a degree.

actually, what I find disturbing about that is how being chaste into your 40's is "bad" according to the article. If the guy's not married, I admire him for his chastity. It even says that those are the guys who are mostly likely to have a healthy sexual relationship once they're married.
I wonder why these people can't see the corellation. Observing the law of chastity makes you a more balanced person. For some reason, they think it's a "problem" they need to "fix" (but the same evidence shows that "fixing" it will worsen another, more valid problem!)
*that's* what's disturbing to me.
