Congrats!   Not bad!

I can't help but notice that Terry Brooks' new Shannara book debuted at #5.

But, Brooks has been at this a lot longer than Brandon!

Great to see Brandon getting recognition for his "solo" books.

Is the quality of the ebook art a publishers decision or is it limitations of the kindle? That would imply the art may be better on higher end devices like the iPad.

The claim was that, even when zooming in, "The text in the art is hard to read."

And this was on the iphone, the kindle-format may be my invention (I suppose
other formats may be iphone accessible).

But maybe the ebook-specific discussion is better suited to the ebook thread.

interestingly the kindle version seems to be outselling the hardcover version according to amazon rankings.

Fascinating.  I don't know exactly how their rankings work.  But, if we look at Epic Fantasy right now
http://www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers/books/16197/ref=pd_zg_hrsr_b_1_4_last

we have:
1)Towers of Midnight pre-order (hardcover)
2)Way of Kings (kindle)
3)Way of Kings (hardcover)
4)The latest Shannara (kindle)
5)The latest Shannara (hardcover)
6-8)More kindle
9)Gathering Storm (hardcover)
10)Kindle
11)Something else
12)Knife of Dreams (kindle)
13)Eye of the World (!) (kindle)
14)Something else
15-16)Kindle
17)Great Hunt (!) (kindle)
18)Mistborn (kindle)

That's a lot of Brandon Sanderson, and a lot of Kindle!
(Of course, since the kindle versions are _only_ available on Amazon,
it's going to distort the picture.)

The kindle versions of these old epics seem to be in the $6-8 range.

Just a warning for a lot of people, I've heard from a very reliable source that all of the images won't be included in the paperback version of the book.  So it is doubly worth it to purchase the hb, just to make sure you have the images.

Interesting, perhaps Peter could comment on this.

We've been having a similar conversation over on the eBook thread.  Reports are that while most/all of the illustrations are included in the eBook, they seem not to have been included at a very high resolution.  The text is apparently fuzzy, etc.

It would be fun if there were some other way to get the illustrations.

Ah - very interesting.  So, you zoom in, and it's still fuzzy?

Disappointing.  I guess it will be a while before the industry pays
as much attention to the quality of the ebook version as they do to
the quality of the print or audio versions.

Does it look like most or all of the art at least made it in to the ebook version?

And there are 29 total pages of art if you count the endpapers (which may not be in the ebook at all; I don't know). Plus the headers at the top of every chapter, which are more involved than the ones you see in a WoT book.

I don't know how nice all the art will look on an ereader screen. I'm guessing not as nice as it will look in the hardcover. And there are 29 total pages of art if you count the endpapers (which may not be in the ebook at all; I don't know). Plus the headers at the top of every chapter, which are more involved than the ones you see in a WoT book.

I just discovered this forum looking for an answer to this very question.

Has anyone had a chance to compare the kindle version to the hardcover?

Here in Europe the kindle version would be faster and cheaper for me to get my hands on,
but I would be a bit sad to lose the artwork.

(I'm also a bit reluctant to build a collection of hardcovers - I've been thinking that I might
expand my ebook collection specifically to cut down on bookshelf use.  I might be happy to
come back and re-read it before the next installment, and it just seems like that might be
 easier in the electronic version.)

So I can buy the hardcover from amazon.de but not the eBook form amazon.com  ::)
Maybe I can get it from another web-store...? *looksintoit*

I only have limited experience, but probably it's possible to fool amazon a bit.

Certainly if you change your region to US you'll be able to see the book.  I'm not
sure what it takes to actually buy, or take delivery of the e-book.

A US mailing address?  A US credit card billing address?
