I thought that maybe it's because of how he is weakening. Ruin's slowly taking control, maybe?

Also I copied the inside cover to use to identify the symbol/color/picture for each Herald for easier reference and identified soulcasting since that's the one we know must be shared between Jasnah and Shallan.

It was topaz entwined with a heliodor, both set into a fine metal framework, each stone as big as a man's hand.Topaz and Heliodor are Taln and Ishi, which would mean that connecting the two of them ends up with the Shardbearing girl's ability:
