Hmm, maybe we need a volcanologist advisor to tell us how this stuff works...
A lot of people describe Scalzi’s Old Man's War novels as military science fiction, but I would classify its sequel Zoë’s Tale as a space opera. It’s a story about, well, Zoë, a teenage girl whose parents are invited to take leadership roles in building a colony on a new planet. Zoë is an enthusiastic member of the group sent to colonize Roanoke, despite the risks—and the risks are considerable even before the political machinations of greater powers boil to the surface. I agree, the kandra are most likely deluding themselves in some way to make themselves feel better.
That brings on another theory now that I think about it... what if all those people the mists started to attack, but didn't, were unSnapped mistings and mistborn?
There are no female Inquisitors because even the Lord Ruler couldn't control an Inquisitor with PMS.
What I would like to know is if Kwaan was happy with the alternative he caused?
There we go with this again. It's not necessarily good vs evil, more Order vs. Chaos. See the multiple discussions on Dragonmount (and probably several others as well) for full explanation.
The only thing that we know they do, that isn't a product of allomancy, is healing very fast.
In response to your question, we haven't seen any female inquisitors, but we (most likely) have seen female hemalurgists, which means that theoretically there could be female inquisitors. The reason there aren't any is likely due to gender discrimination.
Have you ever pour water on an already dead fire covered with white (rather pale grey) ash ? Well... ash turns black.
Still, you don't have to love something in order to use it. If you want to make a people forget about their previous life, making ash fall from the sky and obliterate all trace of it would be a great way to do it.
