not really, they hired a no name director/shut in to do a movie and what started as an indie film suddenly got more and more bankroll.

Oh and I rewatched the trailor and there is color, its just washed out like in Saving Private Ryan...
Its an automated robot. Based on Science!

Actually, considering that the movie is very much an homage to the old pulp serials of the 1930's and 40's, it would make perfect sense to have it in black and white.

I disagree. Just because movies in the 30s and 40s were b&w, doesn't mean the world was b&w. If you are going to produce a movie in b&w, you need a better reason than "this movie takes place in the 30s, and movies in  the 30s were in b&w."

All of this being unnecessary argument, since it looks like it isn't in b&w, which makes more sense to me.

I find it hard to get excided about a movie with giant robots that look like a zoom-up of a kid's wind-up toy.
