Runelords by David Farland
« on: January 21, 2005, 11:34:38 AM »
Farland, as most of us probably already know, is the pen name of our beloved local fantasy author David Wolverton.

Apparently someone named John J. Kelly is working on the Runelords movie.

After reading the script and bouncing around ideas on how to handle the movie at least this one guy (who, from his info on IMDB, is probably a producer/high level manager type) has read the book (gasp!) and been shocked at how little their ideas for the treatment of the script resembled the book.  His response to this discovery was a desire to fix that and be more true to the original work.  A good sign in my opinion.

It also sounded like Farland himself is not very deeply involved in the production of the movie, which is just the standard Hollywood/book situation.

Anyone else have any news on this topic?

Well...last I heard, Dave was making his own production company to make the movie himself. That changed?

That's what I heard, but that was long ago. I don't know what's happened since.

EUOL has the best information about this.  I'd ask him, maybe through email.

Yes, I know a few things--but I last talked to Dave in the fall, and they may have changed.  Either way, they were told to me in a private phone conversation, so I wouldn't feel right posting them on the forum.  Email me Skar--or, I can tell you when we have a Sky Captain DVD viewing party.  (We're gonna have one of those, right :) )

IESB will be showing EXCLUSIVE development footage of The Runelords: The Sum of All Men at booth #132 at ComicCon.  This is all new, never before seen material from the major fantasy film that is commencing pre-production September 2004 for theatrical release in 2006.  This is the only place you'll be able to see this footage as we aren't permitted to put it up on any website.

Looks pretty for real. There's even a link to an IMDB page for it.
