Title: Sad day.
Post by: Ararana on April 01, 2008, 07:19:37 PM
Why is it not October? MB3 I can feel the months between us!

Sorry, I'm still on a high from finishing MB2.  ;)

I agree -- it's SO far away.  I'm going to be in Rochester, NY then and who knows if they'll even have enough copies in their bookstores?  I'm used to being in Provo where they have 10 million signed copies.  I've been spoiled :(.

heh. You know what would've been a *really* good April Fool's? Announce that Hero of Ages is going to be released several months early. Now that might've had people fooled longer than the movie deal.

You should pre-order it on Amazon. I personally think it helps relieve some of the stress of waiting, because you've technically already purchased it.  ;D

I know that Nessa offered last year to pick some copies up for people.  I don't know if she'll be doing that this year, but even if she doesn't as long as people pay for their own books and shipping I'd be willing to grab some while at the release.

I doubt there would be a release anywhere near me.  But I got my amazon copy, so it's all good.

Yeah, no pre order for me because I don't even know my address in Rochester yet.  I'll survive though (and order it as soon as I know where I'll be living).

Brandon cannot even be ordered in bookstores in my country, so i'll have to get the Amazon copy...

I doubt it won't be on time, the date's already been pushed back once.  Besides that, all this time in between the release gives you plenty of time to introduce more family and friends to the books.  Then they can share in your anticipation.  Or hate you for it like mine do.

My family and friends aren't much into fantasy, I did get someone to read elantris.

Well they hate me even more because I read WoA about a year before it came out, and HoA about four months after that, and despite numerous attempts I've remained tight lipped.  It's actually pretty funny though, because through trying to convert people I actually found out that I'm friends with Shrain's cousin, and that I'm also friends with someone whose older sister is also an alpha reader, though I have no idea who.

LOL. Yeah, that was odd to find out you are friends w/ my cuz. (I hope she's not the one who phoned you at 4pm and wrested you from your nap, etc., etc. as mentioned on the grumpy thread post.)

And it is sort of bittersweet to have read the entire series. Extolling the awesomeness of the series can be a bit strange at times because, of course, those who are "converted" get all grumpy that they have to wait for the next one. Can't blame 'em though.

You wait.

But really what is the other option.  It's not like you can find a copy anywhere yet, so......

You come up with more theories, of course!  Also, if you haven't done so yet, try reading the Simarillion.  It's a tough read, but there are a couple of really good stories in there.  You'll freak when you find out just how old Galadriel was.

It was pretty much out of the blue for me, though when I met her I did think the name Bylund sounded vaguely familiar.  I actually was her, but it was actually less that I was mad and more that I'm a grumpy person when woken before I plan to be.  I like my nap time, what can I say.

I don't know, what I personally thought was funny was realizing that since Elrond and Aragorn were related way back, when Aragorn married Arwen he was technically marrying a cousin a long way removed.

I would second the Silmarilion though, it really is a great book.  You'll learn a whole ton of cool stuff.  Not really much in the way of a singular story arc though.

I got to help proofread the manuscript.  You all are going to love it.  I can't wait to buy it myself, and I've already read it.   In my opinion, it's the best book of the trilogy.

Please No, don't say that, I'm already excited enough, I don't need a "the best book in the trilogy," comment hanging over my head!

Better not to get people too excited. I personally have believed that some readers are going to hate this book and will curse Brandon and his family unto the fourth generation.

Don't go in expecting the best thing since sliced bread.

I am for the most part, joking, it doesn't bother me overly much, but I also don't want to hear too many comments like that, I won't be able to last until october.

Why not?  Are you saying the book is not good?   I know you're not saying the book is not good.  You give away too much, though.  There are really only two ways a book can get people that upset, other than the book just being bad, of course.

I'm not aware of that, but to keep people from getting ideas, we might as well not discuss that in this thread or elsewhere. Pretend I never said anything. Move along, nothing to see here!!

Isn't there a thread where people are discussing Mistborn 3 plot points?  Could you explain there why you think some people are going to hate this book?  Because, seriously, I thought this was much more satisfying than just about any series-ending book I can think of.

Yes, there is. But that thread is populated with forum members who *aren't* alpha readers and are therefore just speculating (gleefully) about the secrets that HoA might hold.

I've purposely kept silent after a slight misstep a while ago, because apparently I sounded like I was gloating about having read the book. (oops) Really, I was just expressing how I (like yourself) thought that HoA was an excellent end to the Mistborn series. So I'll just stick by that statement and say no more.

Moreover, I think we alpha readers ought *not* to explain why we do or don't think people will love HoA. That would be crossing the boundaries of proprietary courtesy or something. (Wow, I've been reading too many book contracts today I think...)

Good call.

Hey, does anyone know if Ethan Skarstedt hangs around this forum?  He and I used to be in a writing group together, and I noticed his name on the acknowledgments page in one of Brandon's books.

I see Skar post less and less these days. So I don't know how often he visits the site just to "lurk" rather than post.

Funny you mention being in a writing group with Skar, since he's in one of Brandon's writing groups now. When I went to Utah for a wedding last month, I dropped in on one of their meetings and it was a lot of fun seeing the old crew again (and the people I didn't know before were great too). (It made me regret living so far from everyone...)

As Shrain said, besides the fact that talking about MB3 specifics would be unfair to the readers, it would be betraying Brandon's trust, something none of us wants to do!

No, I suppose we wouldn't want to make Brandon angry. Though Ookla, I must be perfectly honest: your comments have probably formed at least 50% of my theories. Just small things that seem to make a difference. For example, look at the Hemalurgy thread at my gigantic, 3000-word post, and you'll distinctly see that I figured out the meaning of when I referenced this Sazed quote:

Quote
All the legends agree that the first Allomancers appeared when the mists came out.

As I referenced here (http://www.timewastersguide.com/forum/index.php?topic=5739.60), a couple of posts down on that page.

So, I will be completely selfish and say that I want alpha readers to keep posting. I like them.

...Sorry Brandon, I had to say it.

EUOL stands for Evil Undead OverLord. (It's partially a reference to this (http://www.eviloverlord.com/lists/overlord.html))

For example, look at the Hemalurgy thread at my gigantic, 3000-word post, and you'll distinctly see that I figured out the meaning of when I referenced this Sazed quote:

Heh heh heh. You want to think you've got that one figured out.

(Any further discussion of this should be continued in some other thread, though.)

I, for one, hate spoilers, someone spoiled part of the last harry potter book for me, and it bothered me, theorizing this much on a book even bugs me, I like to be surprised!
But I have to pass the time somehow! ;D

Quote from Brandon Sanderson's Blog

So, come say hello!  I might just have an advanced readers copy of Mistborn Three I'll be showing off.
Curse you EUOL, you know I'm still shivering up here in Canada!

See, that's why I just buy my books in the bookstore.  Probably not as cheap, but a heck of a lot quicker, and with books I am very much an instant gratification person.  Which, thinking about it is ironic, considering the medium.
