we argued about the Red Dragon vs. an F-16.
so.
New match up

Green Lantern versus red dragon (Great Wyrm, assume ~15 class levels of Wizard (not sorcerer).

Green Lantern. So long as he doesn't have to recharge, the dragon doesn't have a chance. Green lantern could cast Mordenkainen's Giant Green Fist and smash the dragon out of the air. I like dragons too Entropy, and I wish that they would have gone further, but they are seriously outdone here, at least D + D dragons.

The knight in me votes for GL. But I have to wonder if the dragon the could just keep pummeling GL with his fire breath, eventually causing GL to die of heat exhaustion. And is this the kind of dragon that has fear auras and spells and stuff? Cause if it can manipulate minds or emotion, certain GLs are toast.

D&D Dragon, so it has the fear aura. But I reckon a prerequisite for being a GL is a strong will, so high bonus to Will save.

I think it is wishful thinking to say that GL would beat a red dragon. GL might have some defensive capabilities that would keep it from being am easy victory for a red dragon but a red dragon is by far a more complete package and would eventually defeat GL. Of course, GL could also get lucky but I would say the GL would be the underdog in this match-up.

Note that in "A League of One" Diana killed a dragon without aid, though she would have died too if supes hadn't shown up to administer CPR.

I think you underrate GL.
He can create anything with his mind.
An anti-magic force field surrounding the dragon. Attach a pump to suck out the oxygen.
Voila! Asphyxiated dragon.
