Meet for lunch March 24th?? (Pre-Wedding)
« on: February 17, 2005, 03:34:33 AM »
Hey all,

My wedding is going to be March 25th in Salt Lake. (Invitations haven't been sent yet...and I don't know anyone's addresses yet either...) So anyway, I was thinking it would be nice if we could get together for lunch the day before. I hope a lot of you can come to the reception, but I'm sure not going to be interested in catching up with anyone then, so the day before would be great.

Some kind of restaurant somewhere in the middle between the southern Salt Lake area and the Provo area seems like it would be most convenient, but I don't know where that would be (don't know enough about Utah). Last time I was out I went to that meetup we had at P.F.Chang's in Orem and that was nice; something casual in a setting like that is what I'm thinking.

Depends how much you want to spend. Sugarhouse Barbecue in Salt Lake is the best restaurant in the state, probably, but it's about 14 per person.

Are you free that night? Should we throw a bachelor party for you?

I hate ever spending more than $9 at a meal...less than $6 is my ideal...but maybe this isn't really practical? Maybe $14 would be okay for a special occasion...what are other people willing to spend?

What would a so-called bachelor party involve in Utah? I'm probably booked for dinner and don't want to stay up later than probably 11 that night, but there aren't a lot of certainties. Maybe if you described what such a party would entail I might be interested. But I might just want to hang out with family, as I certainly won't after the wedding.

When Morag got married we took him out for lasertag and then watched a movie. When I got married, Tage and Mustard set up an all-night Starcraft LAN. Think along those lines and tell us what you'd be interested in.

The best plan for dinner is probably pizza, since it's typically cheaper and more flexible than anything else.

Holdup here...

Traditional bachelor parties involve strippers and alcohol.

Mormon ones involve lasertag and LANS.

I sense a universal truth in here somewhere.

We TOTALLY have to throw you a bachelor party, Ookla.  We threw one for Morag, we're throwing one for you.  That's the way it's going to be.

As for food, I vote Bucca!  Did I ever buy you a 'Thanks for helping me get published' dinner, Ookla?  I bought one for everyone else, and you are as deserving as any of them.

You did, when I came out for graduation in April.

Buca...hmm...

I dunno what to suggest for a party, other than watching anime...

Bucca, laser tag and anime, sounds good.

I know Ookla didn't say anything about laser tag, but it was fun last time and we should go agian.

Buca, laser tag, and anime. Not only are we throwing a weird Mormon bachelor party, but we're absolute geeks.

Sounds like a blast, though. Is there a laser tag place in Salt Lake?

Ha ha ha...okay, you've sold me on the laser tag...

Umm...does this HAVE to be a guys only thing? Because Karen exceeds me in geekiness in quite a few areas (like playing Ultima 5)...though...I suppose she'll have plenty to do herself... >_>;;

A bachelor's party is traditionally male only, and I'm sure that Karen probably has plenty of other things to do.

That said, if she's set on it I'd be willing to make it co-ed.

I just thought she might feel left out, so wanted to test the waters, but I don't think it would be a problem. I mentioned your guys' plans and she said that sounded like fun, and that she is "not against bachelor parties of that sort as long as they are not viewed as the last chance to have fun in your life because tomorrow you're getting married." Which obviously would be against our whole philosophy.

And yeah, I'm sure she'll have plenty to do. But anyway I don't want to stay up very late.

Well and if she gets lonely, we poor left out girls could always hang out with Karen, if she wouldn't feel weird hanging out with a bunch of strangers.
