Video Games / new game ideas
« on: June 04, 2003, 03:05:30 PM »
I was thinking of cool ideas for new video games and thought that there might be lots of ideas floating around, especially in this forum.  I think it would be cool to hear about them...

I delivery pizzas for Papa Johns in the evenings and thought that a pizza delivery game would be kind of fun.  You'd get the driving aspect navigating whatever dark future urban center (something a la Robocop, maybe?) with a timed aspect and plenty of environmental hazards.  You could also have driving combat with rival pizza companies, cop chases if you're caught speeding or otherwise breaking the law, etc.  And then when you get to the address it could turn 1st person "shooter" and you'd face other challenges between your car door and the customers.  Players would earn a base rate per pizza, plus extra for tips depending on their effectiveness, which they would spend on various upgrades to their car or person or whatever.

So what ideas does anyone else have?

I think one of these years Harry should actually get expelled.  He's got to have some kind of ego for all that he gets away with and is rewarded for.  Maybe he'll carry it too far and actually do something really stupid and get sacked.  That probably couldn't happen until book six or seven, unless they finagle some way of reinstating him on probation or something like that.

So could you use the higher math skill to peel a potato?

Here's an invention idea: the S.C.R.O.D.D.

The S.C.R.O.D.D. (Savage Caterpiller Remotely-Operated Delivery Droid) is useful to the evil mastermind who desires to plant bombs or other such villainous devices throughout a city in order to, say, hold it for ransom, and who wishes to do so from the comforts of his or her mountain fortress or secret underwater base.  The droids look like daschund-sized caterpillars wearing small aluminum backpacks (where the goods to be delivered are contained.)  Their size, lightweight construction, and design allow them to move about easily in sewers, ventilation ducts, or along tree branches.  The SCRODD comes equipped with a single camera-eye, allowing the controller to guide the droid along its intended path.

I suppose weaknesses could be contrived (that seems to be the pattern)...you could say that with increased distance from the controller the SCRODD's processors are apt to make a more liberal interpretation of the remote controller's instructions, or something like that.

I've only actually read the last chapter of the last Harry Potter book, but I saw the first two movies and I listened to the 3rd and 4th on CD on a road trip.  Having now established my Harry Potter credentials (meager as they are) I want see if anyone has predictions about the forthcoming fifth book...

This is a tangent...Oceans 11 was mentioned earlier.  It looks like The Italian Job is kind of the same thing.  Anyone seen it?

In a review of the aforemtnioned movie on NPR, the reviewer called mini coopers "hobbitmobiles."

I'm very interested!

FYI: I do not have tons of experience RPing.  I had a brief intro to the Hero system and I know a bit about D&D 3e., but that's it.  I don't think it would be too much of a problem for me to get familiar with a new system, though.

I'm currently in AORP, and think that I can handle a second game with ease.

I never would have thought of that, Fell.  That's just plain old wacky and I haven't had a more amusing thought all day.  Thanks!

I will say this first: it is a superhero movie and so (as the Saint more or less said in the X2 spoiler thread) you shouldn't think too much about little details.  I have come to see the logic in that.  I never go into a movie like that thinking academy award, but maybe there is a small part of me that wants that kind of thing to happen to a spec. fic. flick and which screams for perfection from these films.  Anyways, as I said about not thinking about it too much, I am now about to think about it too much.

I realized this a.m. that (and I am no zoo-physiology expert) perhaps the Hulk should move more like a gorilla, with his arms acting as quasi-legs at times.  It would follow the pattern: humans, while smaller, remain upright, gorillas (much larger and wider) are 3/4 upright so to speak.  When you get to be too big for that it seems that 4 legs outright is the best strategy (elephant) or two huge legs and two relatively insignificant appendages (t-rex.)
