They didn't remove them all, only the ones where C-3PO translates for Jabba, I'm pretty sure "this bounty hunter is my type of scum" was in my copy.
Screw it, I'm buying crayons and paper. I can imagineer my own adventures! Wheeee!

Think it must be your DVD player then SE becsaue there are some on mine (just not when C-3PO translates), maybe you have closed captioning off or something like that.

why would I need close-captioning to see subtitles for a language that no one on the planet speaks?

I'm just trying to help here, the subtitles of Jabba are not on the film itself like they use to be, but actual subtitles like closed captions that appear under the letterbox.  So I'm thinking it has to do something with that.

That clip on the blooper reel of Fett hunting Wicket was actually from a short film by Warwick Davis (the actor that played Wicket) shot during Return of the Jedi's filming.
That's weird about the subs. I haven't watched Jedi yet. I can't imagine they'd be removed though, all the other ones are still there.

My copy was missing a lot of subtitles as well.  I think it was in Episode 4 and 6 that I noticed they were not included where they had been before.

Maybe Lucas is sitting at home with his wall of tv's that show all sorts of people watching his Star Wars DVDs, and then when they get to a certain point he clicks the "subtitles off" button.

I bet.

There might be multiple subtitle tracks. Sometimes anime DVDs have 3 different tracks...one for hearing-impaired that's a transcription of the dub, one that's a translation of the Japanese, and one that's meant to be viewed alongside the dub which has all the onscreen signs translated.

I don't have the Star Wars DVDs but you might want to check your subtitle settings (manually rather than through the on-DVD menus).
All Saiyuki fans should check out Dazzle! Emotionally wrenching action-adventure and quirky humor! (At least read chapter 6 and tell me if you're not hooked.) Volume 10 out now!
