Damn me, that was a good movie. Good characters and it didnt pull any punches with the depiction of the battles.

I thought the movie was really good but i didnt like the ending, or should i say the lack of an ending, unless they plan on making a sequel, which i doubt.

They could.  I mean, Patrick O'Brian wrote like what, twenty of those Jack Aubrey books?  The movie did well enough that I could see a sequel.  However, it's apparently very hard to translate his books into a cinematic format.  Even for this one, they had to splice two books together (The ones titled MASTER AND COMMANDER and FAR SIDE OF THE WORLD interestingly enough.)

Master and Commander is a definite guy flick. Come on, the main plot is about sea warfare battle tactics.

Morag has become a Patrick O'Brian junkie.  He's read a ton of the Jack Aubrey books.

It's not just the plot. All the characters are men, except the one woman in that Brazilian port who has all of 10 seconds, maybe, of screen time.

But guy movie or not, it's a great one.

Uh oh.  Does that mean your writing group is now reading about Orcs at sea?

lol.  No, fortunately.  However, he does want to write a SF book with a slight O'Brian flair for his next project.
