Post by: Maxwell on May 06, 2004, 01:55:37 AM
well there's a favorite band and a favorite author thread, I thought there should be a favorite movie thread too.
I'll go first, it's a tie between:dogma donnie darko the fifth element and big fish.

Though I do enjoy Dogma a great deal....

Probably Princess Mononoke or Unbreakable.
Hard category though - maybe we could say favorite comedy, favorite drama, favorite action?

In no particular order, my top five are almost certainly Star Wars, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Shawshank Redemption, Annie Hall, and Mary Poppins. Jaws is up there too, maybe top ten.

Forgot about the Shawshank redemption, definitely a favourite of mine. The Indiana Jones movies were certainly good too.

y'know, I almost could have predicted almost all the choices here. Except Mary Poppins. Even though Fell has told me that he likes it a lot, I keep forgetting.

...ok, ignoring the last two posts, I would have to say my favorite movie is...well...I really don't know. Any movies that make someone really think are good in my eyes. I like Donnie Darko, but I don't think that's anywhere near my favorite...

how bout a movie about stickers?
Title: Re: favorite movie
Post by: Sminja on May 13, 2004, 12:06:02 AM
I could live with that...but then I would get bored when I found out it wasn't really about stickers, but about those little things that get caught in your socks when you walk on a trail...

My favorite movie is the fifth element because it is a good sci-fiction movie.

Most days my favorite movie is Undercover Blues with Dennis Quaid and Kathleen Turner.  Married couple has a kid, on vacation, gets sucked in to an international arms plot.

With Stanley Tucci playing a street thug that is purely for comic relief, and Quaid and Turner being completely relax secret agent types, it's a really fun film, and it looks like they had a ton of fun making it.

I have so many favorites that it's hard to narrow it down, so I usually don't respond on threads like this. But my most recent favorite would have to be LotR. No, wait, there's Pirates of the Carribbean as well. Then there's Pride and Prejudice. And Return to Me. And I just got My Favorite Wife on DVD, which is my most favorite Cary Grant movie of all time. And Meet Me In St. Louis, too....

I should just move over to the top ten thread.

Star Wars Trilogy definately.  Along with the origional Matrix (the other two suck...), uh, Signs (go M. KNight), Unbreakable is good too.  I, actually, have a lot of favorite movies...

Sci-fi: The Fifth Element

Fairy-tale type: Edward Scissorhands* (awesome)

Sport: N/A (i hate sports and all things related to sports)
Note: i played football for five years...contradictions are my forte.

Action: A Long Kiss Goodnight (dont ask)

Adventure: Indiana Jones movie #3

Monty Python: Holy Grail (Shes a Witch!...well, maybe the nose...Oh! and the hat.)

Fantasy: LOTR3 (the other two i hated...actually...i didnt really like the 3rd...Frodo is a moron. Read The Hobbit, Bilbo is awesome.)

Horror: The Langolears (i dunno)

Comedy: Benny and Joon (watch and learn)

Disney: Mary Poppins (whoo hoo)

*Favorite movie

Thats enough for now. :)

I regret having to ask this, bu the question burns within me: you posit Monty Python as a category, and Holy Grail as the best within that category. How many other Monty Python movies have you seen?
Title: Re: favorite movie

Any Monty Python film is a catagory unto itself, but the best one is still "Life of Brian."

Some of my favorite films include:

Clockwork Orange
City of Lost Children
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Deathrace 2000
Star Wars Trilogy (the first one, not the current one)
Popeye
Hard Boiled
Hawk the Slayer
Chasing Papi
Conan the Barbarian
High Sierra
Angels with Dirty Faces
Rebel Without a Cause
Giant
African Queen
Casablanca
White Heat
Public Enemy
Fight Club
Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon
Killer
A Better Tomorrow I-III
Lord of the Rings Trilogy
Suspiria
Clerks

At least that is my list today.  Tomorrow it may change.
