Title: Character creating hobby
Post by: 42 on December 08, 2005, 10:22:06 AM
So does anyone else around here waste hours of time by creating hordes of RPG characters that often never get used?

I used to. I now do it more efficiently using NWN instead of paper.

I use computer files. If I do manage to need a paper version, I just print it out.

NWN takes too long and only works for one system. Plus how do you make superfluous notes?

I only need to do it for one system. If I'm never going to play the character, it doesn't matter what system it's for. I don't know why you think it takes so long.

The superfluous notes can be done in the "customize character" section.

I used to spend hours making Heroes Unlimited and TMNT characters--reams and reams of them that I never used. Now I do it with City of Villains. It is not unknown, however, for me to sit down with a new D&D book and say "let's see what I can do with this new prestige class," and then build one or two just for fun.

I don't make many characters, I'm more of a setting/mapmaker.

I'll often doodle little maps at the most random of moments.  Rarely have I used any or them.

I once made stats for every character in the Disney Afternoon.
Well, for Darkwing Duck and Tail Spin anyway.

edit: I quote that post because I made them using my TMNT rule book.

I make maps too...and floorplans for various buildings and dungeons. I use Adobe Illustrator a lot.

I think my figure drawing training has led me more towards creating characters.

My addiction has been Mutants and Masterminds. I'm failry certain I've made over 350 M&M characters in the past two years.

And now I'm waiting to get my copy of 2nd edition M&M.

I just like weird combination of powers the most. And coming up with cool themes. I tend to gravitate towards mystical/psionic powers.

It also depends how fast I can create portaits. With clip art and photoshop, it's rather fast.
