Input needed (Everyone take a look)
« on: May 24, 2004, 11:31:09 PM »
Or an out-of-website experience.

1) What kinds of WWII Strategy/RPG's would you recommend/not recommend to video gamers?

2)Also, what kind of WWII FPS' would you recommend/not recommend?

3) Any other WWII video games you think people should/shouldn't play?

WWII = World War II?  The only two I can even think of is that arcade game 1942 and Wolfenstien.

I imagine it will only be a short time before this thread gets moved to Video Games...

Strategy:  I loved Sudden Strike, although it did get mixed reviews by others.  It seems that the reason that I liked it, and the reason others dislike it, is that it is not the conventional RTS.  There is no resource management or building units--You're simply given an army and an objective.  I think it's fantastic.

Currently I'm playing Desert Rats Vs. Afrika Korps.  It's a great game, except for a lot of stability issues.  I'm writing a review of it shortly.

FPS:  For me, it begins and ends with Battlefield 1942, and it's expansion Road to Rome.  (I refuse to play the Secret Weapons expansion on principle.)

I have one of the versions of Medal of Honor as well, though it's too linear for me.  It was fun, and I played through it all, but it doesn't have much replayability.

Others: I think my all time favorite WWII game is Microsoft's WWII Combat Flight Simulator.  Good fun.

Silent Storm was incredibly fun until it got incredibly stupid (about halfway through the campaign).

And lastly, I still play the old Axis and Allies computer game.  I get a kick out of it.
I got soul, but I'm not a soldier.

Those C&C games aren't set in WWII, are they SE?

And HoMsar, Secret Weapons is much better in my opinion than Road to Rome.

I will give these consideration.

The Red Alert ones are. They're what would happen if the time travel machine Einstein invents had been used to assassinate Hitler, so WWII is between the Allies and the Soviets.

What about faulty FPS WWII games? Any that are particularly bad?

The reason that I don't like Secret Weapons, Gemm, is that it takes a great WWII game, and turns it into a sci-fi game.  I don't like games that can't stay in their genre (the same reason I dislike Silent Storm).

Yeah, I guess you have your reason there. I'll leave it be.
