Title: The Vampire Earth Series
Post by: Mr_Pleasington on January 19, 2005, 02:15:29 AM
I was just looking for some cheese horror/action to waste away the minutes between patients when I saw this series, written by EE Knight, being talked about over at the Pinnacle forums.  They're making a Savage World plot point book out of it, in fact.

So I picked the first two novels up.

Cheese, but excellent cheese.  Like fondue.  Good action, nice  backstory...I'm hooked.  I'm eager to see where he's taking these and hoping he doesn't jump the shark anytime soon.

I only tread with trepidation because the last cheese horror series I tried was the Anita Blake series, which we all know is just soft-core porn.

*laughs and points*

Only soft-core?  Well Hamilton's OTHER fantasy series is hardcore porn, so that's a step up.

Um, not that we're mentiong HOW I know what her other series is like.....  *cough*

Isn't Hardcore to Softcore a Step Down?

/me unwittingly references that Order of the Stick joke where they want to go up an experience level and down a dungeon level.

He can be easily appeased, however, through the proper application of virgins.

I'm attempting to picture Tage draped in women, but the word "application" is wreaking havoc with my mind and I'm getting images of his using them as Band-Aids.

I want 50% as many virgins as Tage or else I won't be appeased even if he is.

Yes, but they must be of a particular height. Of course, I suppose that falls under "proper application."

(Skar's eyes pop out of his head. He picks them up and replaces them, has another look at his class.  He swears as they pop out again and in his efforts to catch them before they hit the floor, blindly fumbles and sends them bouncing into odd corners of the room)

Eager Page?  From Escaped Convict to Eager Page?  I wither.    I tremble, I have a bloody Grand Mal.

FORSOOTH, ALL CAPS TRULY BRINGS A MIGHTY PUNISHMENT!!

weren't you a student of warfare before Skar? It looks like he's changed your class too.

Yes, I was a student of warfare.  Looks like the tremblemaker fatfingered the settings when he was "...just editing the post count."

actually, this is blip we've seen before, but that Tage seems to ignore. If an admin makes changes to a user's profile (it seems to be any change, display name, signature, post count), that user for some reason adopts the admins class. They have to reset it it, and it's hard coded once chosen, so I can't just go back into the account and change the class for you.

I've always thought of it as a good example of why admins shouldn't make changes to user accounts lightly.

No, we figured this out months ago, remember? Whenever someone else changes your stats and saves them, it automatically makes you whatever class they are.

Weren't you just awarding post points around here somewhere? Besides, how can anyone take this seriously?

He's a student of warfare again.

I don't think we keep track of those points or recognize them as legal tender.

they're not worth posts, they're just worth points: redeemable only with whoever granted them, and for what I have no idea.

Fellfrosch points will someday be worth something, so keep careful track. If nothing else, you can sell them on ebay.

So much action with reapers and Valentine he rocks my favorite part " Welcome home, @#%$@& then he throws dynamite nad kills the vampire thing that killed his friend because he found their nest and waited for them to come home....awesome edge of your seat action.

When a guy talks about throwing dynamite, it's the same thing as a girl saying ohmygosh! in a high-pitched voice. It involves the same emotions with the same intensity.

So I'm hooked on this series...

The second book, Choice of the Cat, was just as good as the first book...even if the main character's remarks towards the major female protagonist are about as juvenile as you can get.  Sure, he hasn't had a ton of experience with women, but some of the things he says are just teeth-gnashingly bad.

I just picked up Tale of the Thunderbolt and will be starting it as soon as I finish the latest Eberron novel (whouda thought I'd ever be reading D&D novels?).

Oh, and the author is publishing a book for Savage Worlds!  It'll be pdf only and be up on RPGnow shortly.  I think I'll grab it.

The savage worlds guys should look into also useing something like Lulu publishing, wouldn't cost them much to get physical books to fans that may want them.

It's not actually through Pinnacle, he's doing it on his own.

Pinnacle got some new overseas publisher that does color cheap so all their stuff from here on out will be full color at the exact same price, so that's pretty cool.
