Brandon Sanderson / Re: Quality of Wok book

Brandon said that they went with a fancier and more expensive printing process for this book, so I assume that its durability is above average. I don't have one yet, so I can't tell you for sure what the deal is. Maybe the books were not tightly packed and faced spine down, letting gravity mess with the pages a little?

It's possible. But I agree, the printing, along with the pictures, is much higher quality. And truly appreciate that!

Mine was straight, so it's probably just the shipment. Were there more than one book that were like that? Where do you live/How humid is it there? Vegas is a desert so....

That's what I was thinking, as well. It looks like an issue I've seen other books before (with my friends books) do that due to too much humidity, as well. But being Borders, it's an air conditioned store, so not sure about that. Although yes, there were other hardcover books did have the waviness as well, they just were not as pronounced.

I live in Illinois, so yes, pretty humid here. I hope that doesn't mean all the books (no matter what store I go to) will be that way.

However, I am glad to hear yours came out straight. I am hoping the other Borders store I go to for the signing will have the straight pages.

Some day, Brandon will be really hungry, and we'll never see Miyabi again. T_T

Edit: Also, posted the videos of the 1st part of Q&A. Unfortunately like i said, i dont have any video of the second part.

Brandon Sanderson / Quality of Wok book

For those of you who have picked it up your WoK book, what have you all found the quality like?

The reason I ask is I went to Borders today, just to take a look at the book, to see how 'big' it is (and it's huge  :) ). The inside pictures were great and loved the cover. But what bothered me was the 'waviness' of the pages. Not sure if that makes sense, but if you were to look at the book from the top down, looking at all of the pages, you will see waves in them, instead of it being straight (like it's supposed to).

What an employee said at Borders was it was due to the book was so thick, that can sometimes happen. But I am hoping it was more due to the shipment the store received as I want my pages straight.  :)  Sorry, but I am picky on my hardcovers, especially one I am going to have signed by the author.

I am hoping the book I get at the signing next week will actually have straight pages, and not the 'waves'.

No, no. You misunderstood. Miyabi is Brandon's pet box of macaroni and cheese. All of the forum posts we see? They're probably Brandon going incognito. How else would he know so much about the books before anyone else?

No, that is what I was assuming you meant, it was some sort of 'pet' box, good luck charm, etc.  But I am just saying I did not see him bring it along with him at the TGS signing he had in my area. But, as I said, I guess I could have missed it. Will look for it at his Chicago signing this next Thursday.

So what's with the box of Macaroni and Cheese at the signing table?   :D
Oh, that's just Miyabi. Brandon brings him with on book tours.

Um, are you being serious?

If you are being serious, I didn't see him bring the box at TGS signing. Although I might have missed it.

Whoo! 3 members! We are now the largest official-unofficial-impromtu-made-within-the-last-day chapter of TWG! :P
:D

If your signing was on a weekend and maybe not so far (5+ hour drive), maybe I would join you.  :)

Come on, we need more to speak up for the Chicago signing!

How many people are you expecting for the book signings? I would go to the DC area one and there are several million people in this area. I saw on google video that there were lines out the door for the WoT signing last year.

Also, isn't the Q&A before the signing? I thought they went like this.

1. Author speaks about the book. Typically similiar things at each signing
2. Then he takes questions (this is the most interesting to me... I don't have anything to ask, I just like to see what other people ask and the responses)
3. Then sign books. If it is crowded this can go until the store closes.

Yeah, this is pretty much how Brandon handled it at the TGS signing I went to. We did not have as many people as you saw in the video for the DC area, but if I had to guess, I would say there were maybe 70-80 people there.

But again, it is very possible the turn out may be smaller for this as it isn't WoT.

Like you, the Q&A portion is my favorite as well. That is why I hope he can spend more time for questions this time. It was about 15 minutes or so last time, which sounds like a decent amount of time, but Brandon always gives good, detailed answers (which is a good thing!) and therefore cuts down on the amount of questions.

Well, if you are leaving Madison that early, no. But yeah, if you showed up close to the signing, you might have problems.

His last signing, people that were showing up a half hour or less, the seating was getting tight. But that was also a WoT book, could be different for WoK.

I'll see you there, man  ;D

Look forward to it!    :)

A word of advice, be sure to get there 45 minutes to an hour before the signing if you want a good seat, or even seat, period. Brandon came to the same bookstore for TGS signing and it filled up pretty quick.

Just curious, where are you coming from?

lol  Great, Brandon's going to think the midwest is a bunch of stalkers/rabid fans with all of you asking him out for dinner.

I'll be going to the Chicago signing (which is actually in Oakbrook).

Just out of curiousity, how longs do brandon's signings usually run? I'm gonna be at the St. louis signing, which starts at about 7, and i generally like to stick around for the Q&A type stuff afterwards, but it's a work night and all that.

It really depends on how big of a crowd shows up on how long the signing lasts. I have never heard Brandon cut off the line and say 'x' people can't get signed. He will do everyone from what I understand. So it just really depends on how many people are there.

So the Q&A is afterwards for the book signings you've gone to? I guess it depends on the author. The signing I went to for TGS, Brandon did a reading and then a very short Q&A before he signed. I kind of hope this time the reading is ditched for more time during the Q&A. I understand he had the signing to go and he doesn't want to be there all night, but it was only like 4-5 questions.

Didn't preorder. I'll be picking it up at the store where Brandon will be signing in my area.

Ok, that's what I thought Peter had meant. But then BYU was brought up again specifically, so I wanted to clarify.

Thanks.

I'm not going to BYU, a little too long of a drive for me.   :D

Edit: So is that limit of three personalized signed books only for BYU?
