yeah i headrb bout that.
i particularly liked the fact that they discovered that scots found jokes less funny in general than the rest of britain (it was welsh, english, irish then scots in descending order).

have fun guys. i cant really do this, cause mitchell (my last name) is the 5th most common scottish name, charlie is also really common, so guess what? lots of charlie mitchell's out there i think. though it might be fun to see if any of the TWG reviews pop up.

my pc isnt really good enough to run it either. the game exits to windows every half hour, and its a bit jerky outside, but its playable.

Video Games / Morrowind
« on: September 27, 2002, 04:42:59 AM »
yeah i know we already had a topic on this.

spriggan : are u doing a review? just i got it yesterday, and if you arnt, ill start taking notes for one. its quite good from what i have seen - and its long. i like my RPG's to last me a long time - i felt that BG2 was too short would you believe? this time, nonlinearity means lots of replay value. BG2 is no fun the second time around.

actually, it just occured to me that we could do a vs review - NWN against morrowind. like a review of both, but with a conclusion saying which we think is best. ive not played NWN so i cant make any comments on it (apart from the graphics looking slightly underwhelming).

Everything Else / Re: Music Industry Wows
« on: September 25, 2002, 06:22:25 PM »
im really looking forward to when the music industry dies a horrible death. itll probably take MTV with it, which means that the prick who front that request show in times square will be out of a job, which is good.

i really have to wonder about the credentials of the RIAA senior management. the concept of market led product development is a simple one i learned last year. its a basic concept, and these guys are forgetting a idea that was taught to me in college. amazing really.

i noticed that some artists manage to survive though - foo fighters, blink 182, the "divas" - they all manage to take the best that the RIAA can throw at them on the chin and survive. mind you, considering the fact that one of the former members of all saints was forced to go back to the recording studio to be able to buy a 2 bedroom house, after 4 platinum albums....

Role-Playing Games / D&D player registry

it is, as you may have gathered, a player registry. does all versions, as well as hackmaster. its a nice idea, and i thought it obviously works best when there are more people using it.

well... if he is a swiss herdsman's hut, which is what a online dictionary says he is, then the answer is "he doesnt".
if, however, he is a limo driver (car doesnt matter) then it could happen lots of ways. his boss is a cultist, his sister gets pregnant by a deep one (yummy!), he sees a Bykahee, he stumbles across a cultist hideout... anything really. how does a dwarf become an adventurer? same question.

thats the wierd thing, tage. so am i.
maybe it also has to do with the fact that DnD, in the books and the normal settings (feurun etc) is very sterotypical fantasy. normally i like that, but it just doesnt jive with me in the case of dnd. that and the fact that im fast getting bored with sterotypical fantasy settings - ive seen the dwarfs elfs etc already. i wanna see something more interesting, something that i havent already seen a thousand times already in books, games and films. and the fact that CoC is really dark, which is how i like my games (of all kinds).

Role-Playing Games / real world vs fantastic worlds
« on: September 19, 2002, 11:36:31 AM »
heres an interesting thing. i find that im more interested in Call of cthulhu and its rules than DnD, despite an identicle(sp) system. the only reason i can think of is that its all very well imagining galinus the elf fighting in a smoky building, but when you imagine Johnathan, the chalet turned investigator from san fransisco, it suddenly become more immediate. this just me, or does anyone else get this?

Role-Playing Games / Re: Tracy Hickman's rant
« on: September 17, 2002, 01:16:02 PM »
well, yeah. thats what we were discussing ismir. glad you could make it to the conversation.

the concept of sex within campaigns seems to be a strange one. there is repeated mentions of erotic RPing in vampire, and there is a "carnal manual" for DnD (how i wish i was kidding here) making the rounds on the peer to peer networks. amusing that a legendarily geeky game should have a manual for sex, but there you go.

finally, i suppose that playing a evil campaign might depend on what actually happened. having the players be evil necromancers who aim to besiege and destroy settlements (just a random example) is a evil campaign, but does not have to involve any squemish stuff.
