Thought it might be nice to have a single thread to look up what's going on at any given time in UT. Not to exclude - if I had a Lear jet I'd say it's for everyone and fly anybody out, but geography being what it is...
I'm up for something this Saturday afternoon/evening/night. My place is open, too. I live very close to the freeway in Orem (meaning it's easy to get to.) Any takers?
-
Well, a Magic get-together wouldn't come amiss. Speaking of which, Kije, are you going with us to the prerelease tournament next week? And anyone else who reads this?
-
Wow Fell, you replied before my 28K connection got me back to the main forum. Rapido.
That sounds great. I don't think I'm goign to the prerelease, though.
-
UT? As in Unreal Tournement?
-
:) as in that state somewhere between Nevada and Colorado.
-
Well, EUOL and I stole Sprig's PS2 with just about every game he has, and so that's probably what I'll be doing this weekend.
-
I'm up for something. Too bad Shaolin Soccer isn't in the area. But, if you guys want to play Magic, I wouldn't be opposed.
Oh, which reminds me. Sprig, you still owe me dinner.
-
Just call me when you want to go out EUOL. Anyway Getting ahold of Promethius would be your best bet for a saturday magic romp. He rarely works them and he's never too busy to play magic.
-
I never want to be a Utard ;D
-
well sic semper tyrannus this:
**flicks Jeffe in the ear**
-
Ahem... do you live in the tyrant trampling state!!!
No flicking
after all you guys have fry sauce..... nasty.
-
Hey - Virginia is for Lovers.
-
thats why I said flicking! :o ;)
-
You don't like fry sauce? Are you crazy?
-
I run my rpg group on Saturday evenings, of which Prometheus is part. He hasn't mentioned other plans to me yet.
-
Well, for those who aren't busy, I'm up for something. At my place or elsewhere. I'm free from 2pm on.
-
You like fry sauce, are you crazy...
I have this little thing with semi-liquid chicken and oil mixed with catsup... I dont do it.
I'll do sweet and sour sauce, or BBQ sauce... but mix mayo with my catsup and I'd be vomiting around the resaurant. I get around bad tasting frys here by going to boardwalk fries or Five Guys and getting big thick steak fries in peanut oil with lots of salt. Sometimes a hint of malt vinegar, sometimes not.
Better fries need much less fiddling...
-
Fries like them don't even need straight ketchup, let alone the aberration known as "fry sauce"
-
seriously....
mmmmm
Boardwalk fries
arghghgrhghrMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!
-
/me 's mouth waters
-
Yep, hitches up pants
bout the only thing Utah has that we don't over here is mountains... and who needs em with their impeding free movement and all... and anyway we have liquid water in great abundence....
oh and I've seen the peaches from that place you laughingly call Dixie and I pity you.
-
I'm tired of defending a place I'm only marginally attached to.
Guess what? I just got cast in Forever Plaid at the Hale Center Theatre in Orem (yes, that's in Utah.) It's been 11 years since I ever acted in anything, so this will be interesting.
-
Wow! Congrats Kije! Where is the Hale Theatre?
-
4th North and Orem Blvd. (2 blocks west of State) in Orem.
-
When is it? I can't guarantee that i would be able to go, but I'd like to try. It's been a long time since I've been to a play. And how cool to say, "Look! That's Kije!" :)
-
It's running late October through pre-Thanksgiving November, or something like that. And it's double cast, so I'll be in half of the performances (I don't know which yet.)
-
Ultra super cool ;D!
-
Congrats! We'll have to get a group together and go see you.
-
Thanks all! It's a really fun show (I know, I'm biased, but it is) for the performers and the audience. Plus they just started having cheap student rush seats available after 4 or 5 pm on the day of the performance. It would be fun to have people come.
-
I've been wanting to try Exalted, and I'm thinking of running a short (ie 1 or two sessions) adventure with it. It would be on saturdays probaly starting next saturday (the 27th) since I beleave that will be my day off. Of course I reserve the right to back out of this if there aren't enough people (I'd like 3-4), and I'm not going to be lending out my book to others since I'm still reading it trying to figure out how to play.
-
Well I'm defantly more intrested in do this then I was at the start of the day. I've bought some 10 sided dice and am contimplateing buying an adventure book (it has several different modules in it) since I know little on the system I'm thinking of getting something that will make it go smother.
-
You could always try it on the forum.
-
Might be easier to get a group together, but harder to run.
-
Possibly. Combat is gonna be messy. But apparently against normal human enemies it is just about manageable.
-
Well I got my dates wrong so my scedule dosen't change until the first weekend of October. I can do it earlier then that week end but so far the only person that has showen any amount of vauge intrest is Micah. And that was more "Ohh that's a cool setting, I'd like to try it sometime" then a defenate I'll play in your game.
-
Who in the Utah neighborhood is familiar with the Avalon Hill game Diplomacy?
-
I've read about it but never played.
-
I've played it, but I'm not in the UT neighborhood
-
I don't live in Utah and have never played it, thus meaning i combine the negative elements from SE and Fell! This should mean that, accordign to the law of averages (did i make that one up?) that someone should now appear who has played and lives in Utah.
Thanks me.
-
ACtually I've never played the game being talked about, or live in UT. So now your sum has become a difference.
-
Yeah, but i don't think you count. Too wierd.
-
No! I cannot be defeted by your multiplication! I must find my division bar! Nooo! I lent it to Robert Lowell!
-
I've played it, but Im not Utarded.
Great game.
-
Wow. Over the past few years I had always heard about Diplomacy from this person or the other, and I thought I was the only one who didn't know about it. So I finally picked it up a couple of years back and it's got to be one of my all-time favorite games.
I'm interested in organizing a game, but it would have to wait until Novemberish. You can play with 5 or 6 players/teams, but it's best with 7. I suppose I'll inquire as to interest in a month or so.
-
I just got word that the show I'm in ("Forever Plaid" at the Hale Center Theater Orem (400N. & Orem Blvd.)) hasn't sold well for tomorrow night's (tuesday, 28 Oct.) performance. I am authorized to give away tickets. That means you can come for free! The show starts at 7:30pm (doors open at 7) and it only runs until 9:15-:20, so you wouldn't be out too late.
The premise of the show is this: a semi-professional harmony group from eastern Pennsylvania was on their way to their first big concert when they were broadsided by a bus of parochial schoolgirls on their way to see the Beatles make their U.S. tv debut on the Ed Sullivan show back in 1963. They are allowed a visit back to earth to do the show they didn't get the chance to do. And so the show is, well, that show. (Is that confusing?)
Anyways, email me tonight or tomorrow am at the address on my profile if you're interested. I'll make the reservations for you and the tickets will be waiting for you at the door of the theater. In theemail be sure to include the name you want the tickets under and how many tickets you want. I'll reply with a confirmation. Sorry, no children under 4 or babes in arms. That's all!
-
Curses! Ward Activity tonight. And for those of you urging me to skip it . . . I can't because I am on the Committee.
-
Yet again, another offer to come see Forever Plaid atthe Hale Center Theater in Orem for free!
This time it's because each cast memeber is given a certain number of vouchers for free tickets. I had offered all of mine to family (I have extensive family connections here in UT) but it turns out that all of the vouchers will not be used.
So I'm left with three, and I'm offering them to whomever should want them. They are only good through the 13th of this month, which means that you'd have to come see the show tomorrow (Thursday) night.
So if you're interested email me at the address on my profile, and I'll make the reservations for you. Just tell me how many, and what name you would like the under (last name, plz.) I will respond to the email confirming the reservation, and you can pick up your tickets at the door as you arrive for the show.
I only have three, so first come first served. If others want tickets I don't think it will sell out, and after 4pm you can buy student tix for $5 for that night's show. Tickets are usually 13 or 14 bucks.
So come on out! It's a good excuse to get out of the house and it'll have you back home before 10. (The show starts at 7:30.)
-
Sounds fun, but we can't ditch the kids on such short notice. Good luck, though.
-
I would watch them for you, since I'm a good sport and all.
-
despite the fact that if MR.P logs on I'll probaly end up playing FFXI most of the day, does anyone want to do anything today or possobly tomorrow evening (after 7ish)? I just don't want to site here playing videogames all day long.
-
Were you thinking of anything in particular, or just "something"?
I don't think we're doing anything tonight, so if you're planning something cheap and fun....
-
na, i'm up for just about anything that wont cost money. Not sure what I want to do, but I just want to do something besides sitting in front of my PC.
-
That can't be Spriggan saying that....
-
I agree. Besides a missing apostrophe and inconsistant capitalization, I don't think there's a single spelling error in that post.
-
While it is nice that you can pass your time making fun of Spriggan, I don't see either of you suggesting an activity for tonight.
Looks like I'll be writing and watching my husband play FFX2
-
that's because i"m in Virginia. I only pop in here to make smart remarks. It's kind of my thing. Hop on IM and entertain me while I write. There's something you can do.
-
I'm on- I don't see you. Did you change your nick?
-
oh, heh, I meant in about an hour. I have to work till 9pm still (the schedule changes on Dec 3! Can I get a hallelujah?!)
-
No, you cannot SE. But I will give you an Amen if you don't hurt me.
-
Hey, Fuzzy. What does your husband think of FFX2? I'm thinking of buying it for Sprig for Christmas (like, next week, then playing it myself--since he made the mistake of loaning me his PS2.)
-
"It seems pretty cool," he says. (How helpful.)
From watching him play it, it seems heavy on the side quests, and light on the "Ohmygosh theworldisending melodrama."
He agrees with this, and says he's only 30% into it right now. I can post a link to his review when he writes it and Gameforms puts it up next week.
Edit: I take it back. The three girls just were taking a dip in their skimpy bikinis and they decided to get into a little wrestling/splashing match. So you should definitely buy it for Sprig.
-
Hallalejuah! (or however that's spelled . . .)
-
Lol. I personally was interested in it because I liked the story for FFX so much. Since that's the case, I'd rather not ruin FFX by playing X-2 if it's bad. A bikini wrestling match makes me skeptical. If I wanted something like that, I'd go buy DOA Beach Volleyball.
-
hey I've been trying to call you. Tage's on his way back to your place to discuss movie times.
-
I know most people are running away to Idaho, but if anyone is without a place to have Thanksgiving dinner, our apartment is open.
-
I am very interested in organizing a game of Diplomacy sometime during the holiday break. My place! Treats! Anyone interested?
-
What is Diplomacy? Is that anything like Mao?
-
Hm, if only there was a site that reviews games...you'd be able to look it up and read all about it and everything. Too bad there's nothing like that.
I'd definitely be interested, and with luck I could drag Mustard along.
-
1. lol
2. cool. I think I'm flexible with when, so let me know what works for you. And we'll see who else is interested.
-
Hey, looks like I'm as lazy as you, Fell.
-
Anyone else interested? 42? Prometheus? Tage? Spriggan? EUOL? Anyone?
Did I mention in the review that this game is fun?
And treats!
-
I would love to come, if just to say hi, but I'm in Idaho for the holidays. I plan to be back for Sprig's New Years party, though.
-
I would like to play, but I'm kind of booked for the next week with family stuff. Though if you time it right, I would love for an excuse to get away from some of the more annoying familiar elements.
-
I'm up for playing sometime. I don't think I can on New Year's Eve, since there's apparently a party or somesuch at my house that night, but any other time would be great. (after christmas, that is)
-
How about January 2nd (Friday) in the evening? We could do it earlier in the day if that's better for people and they don't have to work.
-
the week of the second is good for me, but the next week (specificaly the 9th,10th and 11th) I'll be out of town.
-
So can this happen on Friday? If you're in say so, soon preferably.
-
I think Sprig, Fell, Tage, and I will be at our weekly gaming (D&D) session on Friday. This week.
-
Ahhhh. Well some other time, then.
-
So maybe on a Saturday that everyone has free. Hopefully before Fell leaves for the Icy Hell of the North - I mean Logan? :)
We could help Fell pack for an hour or two before and then go play.
-
Speaking of which (icy hells, that is), how's the weather out there? We've been having 50 degree weather the last week or two, and it's been sweet justice to have Utah have all that snow when I'm not there. :D We've had one snowstorm so far this year, so I'm not saying we won't have our share, but it's looking to be at least a little milder than last Feb. (in which we had a 36" snowstorm and a 27" snowstorm, and had a week and a half in which the temperature never got above freezing).
My old roommate from Chicago is out there right now with her sister and she says they tried to go up into the mountains with regular street tires. They didn't get far.
-
The weather's been nuts here. We got some snow, then more snow, then a lot more snow, then a little more snow, and to top it off, some snow.
If I have to live through this, I hope people in Utah at least don't whine about the "drought" next summer. Drought? What drought? We live in a freaking desert, people!
-
Its 70 and raining
-
yeah, this is the freakiest winter ever.
-
Becasue of the weather and my cars transmission I'm not going up to Idaho any time soon (neiter of my perents want me to go up this weekend). So I'll be here this weekend.
-
Darksteel prerelease : oook, so it looks like we're going after all.
Who from Provo is going and would give J.T and me a ride back?
-
Well I'm not driveing up myself. So i'll probaly go up with fell and prometheus.
-
I guess I could get five people in my car. It's a little 95 Geo Prism, (back when we still had Geo) but technically it has five seatbelts. That's gotta count for something.
Good thing I saw this. I was talking about the same thing with Fell over in CCGs.
-
I would drive, but my van's transmission isn't up for it.
-
Fine with me. I don't mind. If anyone else decides they want to go at the last moment, though, we'll need more transportation. Between Fell, you, fuzzy and her spouse...oh and me...my seatbelts are all gone. Even if we ignored the seatbelt thing, though, you wouldn't want anymore in the Prism.
Did EUOL say at any point that he wasn't going to go? I'm kind of assuming he's not coming at this point since no one has said he is going, but no one has said he's not. He seemed to like the last one, too.
Oh, and fuzzy only said she and her husband would only need a ride back from the tournament if I read it right. Is that the case?
-
Right now I'm not planning on it. But I'll see you guys at the Cottontree later.
-
Right - Chris and Kristy are giving us a ride up, but they're staying up in SLC to have dinner with an uncle or something, and J.T. has to work in the evening.
-
That would make sense. So they're attending the Prerelease as well? That'd be even better! 8) For purposes of synchronity (or something spelled sorta like that, if it's a real word) what time do you guys plan to arrive?
-
We were going to get there right as it starts - 8.
-
Sounds right to me. Now I just have to figure out how I'm going to collect Fellfrosch in time. And what to bring for lunch. I remember being ravenous last time.
-
yeah; but the this one is at the U of U, right in the student center -so there's actual food to buy
Just to clarify - it will be possible to get us back before 4. (which is when J.T. has to work)?
-
I'm pretty certain that we made it back by then last time, although it wasn't too terribly far off that. These Prerelease things take a while. Getting there earlier and into an earlier flight would help if that was a concern. Do you want to push up the timetable?
-
Um well if it starts at 8, and Chris & Kristy are driving us up to arrive there at 8, we can't get much earlier.
Should be good though.
Thanks a lot, in advance.
-
Only reason I suggested getting there before 8 AM was the lines. We waited in them for about an hour or so last time. Arriving 15 minutes earlier than that could help a lot potentially.
-
Ah. Well this isn't a core set, so the turnout is going to be a lot smaller- thats why they only order a smaller number of the pre-release rares. We'll be there a little early, but it should all work out.
-
Hey- can anyone send me E3's (Ethan Sproat) email address?
-
I've got it. (Finally got that boy into a writing group with me.) What email do you want me to send it to?
-
You can send it to the one I have on my profile.
-
The email address?
Mine is [email protected]
-
It's off.
-
thankee

Anyone in Utah is welcome to come to the preview night of The Hale Center Theater (Orem)'s production of The Taming of the Shrew tomorrow night (Thursday.) It starts at 7:30 and doors open at 7:00.
It is technically a rehearsal, but it's a full dress and tech rehearsal and it's the night before opening night and I've never been to a preview night at the Hale where they've stopped the production to work on something. So it's just like going to the show and payingfor a ticket but...you don't have to pay for it 'cause it's free!
Just a suggestion for something to do on a Thursday night. HCTO is at 400 N and Orem Blvd (1 block west of State.)
-
Is seating limited? As in, do we need a ticket (even though it's free?)
-
There are about 300 or so seats in the theater. You don't need a ticket and there are no seating reservations, you just need to show up at the appointed time. The preview shows I've been in or seen haven't ever filled up, so you'll be pretty safe if you show up between 7 and 7:30, and it's a small theater so there are very few bad seats.
They do have rules about no babies in arms, or no children under 4.
-
What part do you play?
-
I play a servant and a haberdasher (hatmaker.) It's just a small part.
Yeah, yeah, there are no small parts...whatever.
Small part or no, it's still a lot of fun.
-
I did one show at Hale back in 96, and loved working with everyone. (That was in SLC though, not Orem, and it was back before they built the new theater.) Still, the people were great.
-
My brother in law, Sanford Porter, is pretty involved with the SLC Hale and was there back in the day. What show were you in?
-
I was in The Happiest Millionaire. I recognize his name, but can't place him.
-
This Saturday (9/25) my wife is gone all day to rehearsal and Women's Conference. That means I can do whatever I want all day long!!! Well, not really. But it does make it rather convenient to have people over for whatever. Like games or movies or whatnot. We could play Heroclix, or a board game (Settlers, Diplomacy, etc.) or anything else.
If you've got evening plans that's fine - I'm speaking more about the daytime. So anyone in Utah Valley, or anyone who wants to visit said valley, is welcome at my place for...whatever it is we want to do. Saturday. Any takers?
-
guess not
-
You're welcome to come over and bug me and my roomates, though they've got their D&D group at 6 I beleave. If you want to show up around 3 or 4 and stay for a few hours you're welcome too.
-
Sorry - didn't see this until today. Oh well.
-
Well I didn't see your post till late Friday. Next time I guess.
-
So it's official--I'm going to be out to Provo for a visit Halloween weekend. We should have a TWG get-together sometime while I'm there.
