On the down side, I've decided that watching other people get married and playing with their kids causes more bitterness in me as I get older.

42, this is not an experience unique to you. I think that's one of the reasons why Mormon singles tend to no longer associate with old friends once they get married--not only is it that now they have completely different lifestyles, but sometimes it's a reminder of all that you don't have.

...And yet, being involved in my nephew's life and helping my sister out when I'm around also make my life more full, when I remember what I have as opposed to what I'm missing out on. I still keep in touch with several old roommates who have gotten married and had kids. It's a constant battle against bitterness, but I think I'm cheerful enough.
