Title: Hey ladies III
Post by: EUOL on May 13, 2004, 02:34:50 AM
So, how long does it take to grow your hair out?  Being a guy, I generally ignore my hair until it simply gets long enough to be annoying.  Then I get it cut, but I don't really pay attention to how long I go between cuts.

So, lets say I have a female character in my book who has boyishly short hair (like, cut really short.)  If she decided to grow it out, how long would it take to get the hair to near shoulder-length?

well, at the moment my hair is 8 feet 7 inches...
but I cut half an inch off every three months to prevent split ends,
So my hair grows about an inch every two and a half months

yeah, well I braid it(about 26-30 seperait braids)
then I fold each braid in half(braid the ends together)
So each on is a little less then five feet long
this colorexactly that shade(grows out that way)

It really depends on the person--each person's hair grows at a different rate (and each person's hair will only grow to a certain length--which also varies--before it won't get any longer.)

However, the average is half an inch per month.

Edit: Here's a webpage that talks about it:

I think you might remember me with about shoulder-length hair when I was at BYU, EUOL. Now my hair is down past my waist. I get it trimmed about once every 4-6 months, about 1/2 inch to an inch at a time. So it's taken 3 years to grow about a foot, with trimming about 4 or 5 inches total.

EDIT: I'm looking at my back, and I'd say it's probably more like a foot and a half between my shoulders and where my hair hits (wow, it's so fun that it's gotten so long!).

I know this is about a week late, but I don't check this thread as often. My hair grows a little less than inch a month.

I thought this might be helpful because it's 1) easy to compute for writing and 2) possible, since everyone's hair grows at different rates.

Of course if her hair is growing that fast, she'll have to be eating right, and not be an underfed street urchin.
