Favorite Sci-fi Television Series
« on: June 11, 2004, 01:34:47 AM »
Fairly simple question- what is your favorite live-action sci-fi TV series?  I was going to include fantasy but couldn't think of a lot.   But if your favorite happens to be fantasy (like say, Dead Like Me) then those can count too.

Of course I love Doctor Who and Star Trek TNG.  But I think StarGate: SG1 is winning as favorite over all.  Not only does it have the bonus of still being on, but it's got such great characters.

The only one that I can think of that I actively like is Firefly.  Some of the Star Treks were good, but I wouldn't go out of my way to watch them.

I don't think I can pick just one! So here are my favorites. :)

Red Dwarf (because it's so darn funny! Plus, the Cat is just a blast to watch)
StarGate:SG1 (what fuzzy said)
Firefly (I adored the one liners, and it had the potential to be a really great show)
Out of this world (I have very fond memories of this show, and I remember wanting the girls powers)
My Secret Identity (I wanted his powers too)

There's a Disney? Nickelodeon? show that I adored too--same general idea as "My Secret Identity"--the girl gets covered in radioactive/biohazardous goo, and could do cool things because of it.  I don't remember the name of the show, though. :(

I am currently watching:
Star Trek Deep Space 9 - great characters, interesting politics in the background, some damn cool battle scenes. I'm buying the DVD box sets, i'm halfway through season 5.
Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex Season 2 (fansubbed) <- GITS SAC has some great characters, good battle sequences and a lot of strong intrique and discovery.
Cowboy Beebop (fansubbed) <- great characters, and some damn funny episodes, but no story thus far. Up to episode 15 or somesuch.

Apart from that, I don't watch tv shows. And the last two are watched on my PC.

Hum, I hadn't thougt of Coboy Bebop.  That would have to be my fvorite.

As American TV goes, I'll have to be pursit:  ST:TNG.  That's the show that really got me into SF--I used to just wait and wait in atnicipation for it to com eon.

Does Smallville count as Sci-Fi?  For that matter, what about Small Wonder?  Even is it does, it wouldn't be on my list--I'm just curious.

Small Wonder would just be really poor SF.
fuzzy said that fantasy counts. Superheroes are somewhere in between SF and Fantasy (I consider them a unique genre). It's closely related enough to count.

Smallville counts as its' either sci-fi or fantasy depending on how you look at it.  Superhero's childhood - fantasy.  Dude from another planet - sci-fi.

I'd say Smallville and the first 4-5 seasons of the x-files.

I would add Bebop but Fuzzy wanted LIVE action, but I will make a note that I realy want to see the Ghost in the shell anime series that Entropy is watching.  Its comming out in the next few weeks here (and the music is done by Yoko Kanno ala Bebop).
Screw it, I'm buying crayons and paper. I can imagineer my own adventures! Wheeee!

As soon as I read Fuzzy's question I thought, "what a good opportunity to make a Small Wonder joke," but Mustard beat me to it. What does that say about us?

I would have to say Cowboy Bebop, unless Fuzzy is going to hold us to her "live-action" stipulation, in which case I say Deep Space 9. My two favorite television shows ever.

Eh, didn't know that Fell-dude liked DS9.

And which music spriggan? The first season has about 4/5 different intro music songs, and the 2nd season has its own as well.
