Question about our movie discussions.
« on: January 21, 2005, 12:05:07 AM »
Here's a question. Do "our" discussions about movies ever go into the difference between film and movie? Making distinctions, if any, that exist between that which is known as a "movie" and that which is known as a "film"  taking into account artistry and vision, convention and invention, promotion and marketing, and other considerations. You may cite examples of either word in your response?
“NOTHING IS TRUE. EVERYTHING IS PERMITTED.”

“Who needs girls when you’ve got comics?”

I don't see a difference.
All Saiyuki fans should check out Dazzle! Emotionally wrenching action-adventure and quirky humor! (At least read chapter 6 and tell me if you're not hooked.) Volume 10 out now!

As a general type of thing, I'd say no.  If it was, then you'd know it and wouldn't be asking.  If its relavent to the discussion, it might come up, but that's about it.

This sounds suspiciously like a paper we're helping you write, Gemm.

Heh, no. Just a discussion we were having in my "Film Art And Appreciation" class. i thought maybe, since we have the thread, that there was a possiblity that we might have had such higher "thinking" conversations as my teacher seems to be trying for. Except when the one guy (a Canadian nonetheless =P) interjects with a, "well, it's no Tomb Radier."

I'd say the average movie watcher isn't interested in the same things that someone in the field would be.  Like if I made movies, then I would probably talk/think about all the different stuff that went into making it.  But just some average joe going to the movies, that isn't exactly interesting... maybe occationally, but definatily not something they do with every show.
