That's because instead of making it scary they make it gory since it's easier to do.

There's a big difference between scary and gory. I like scary movies, but rarely does that coinside with being gory. Gore doesn't do anything for me, except make me sick. But I like suspenseful stuff, like when you hear the munching music in Jaws.
