So... apparently in WoK there's something or someone out west that you can visit and make wishes with. The only catch is that there's a curse associated with the wish.
What would you guys wish for? Would you risk the curse?
If it was up to me, and I knew the desolation was coming, I'd wish for a hero to come back from the dead to help us against the blight. Who knows, mabye I'd get a Herald, Radiant, or even Vin to come back to life to help out.
However, I bet the more powerful the wish is, the worse the curse is. I bet if I wished someone back to life, I'd probably die in the process of the wish being completed.

Oh, great... desolation AND zombies...

Oh, great... desolation AND zombies...
Mistborn zombies at that!
I'm not sure. It really depends on if I have something I desperately need, like if my life or family's lives are in danger.

No, see, the zombies ARE the desolation. By wishing for a hero you've inadvertently caused the zombie apocalypse. The Nightwatcher has a twisted sense of humour like that.
I'd probably only make a wish if I felt like I was at a place where things couldn't get any worse. Though perhaps not. It is said that the Nightwatcher isn't especially vindictive, and the curse doesn't always have that much to do with what you wished for. We've only heard a few examples of curses, so it'd be hard to say.

What if you wished to not be cursed?
-
What if you wished to not be cursed?
You drive a supernatural entity to suicide? :o
-
What if you wished to not be cursed?
You piss off the Nightwatcher? Remember how it works - you tell her what you want, and then she gives you what *she* thinks you deserve, plus a curse to go with it.
And I'm with Fireborn. An unpredictable supernatural entity that will give me something based on its whims, and then curse me? Not unless I'm desperate. But at that point, hell yeah.
-
This is also a situation where "more wishes" is not necessarily the correct response.
-
What would I wish for? The knowledge and ability to defeat Odium. ;D
Not that the nightwatcher is likely to be able to grant that wish, but if it does turn out to be cultivation or another anti-odium shard, I think she'd grant some pretty spiffy stuff. Probably not give too bad a curse either.
This is, of course, gambling on the likelihood of the Nightwatcher not liking Odium. If the nightwatcher was on the same side as Odium, or, scary thought, was Odium, I would be screwed. :-X

or, scary thought, was Odium, I would be screwed.
Oh, that is a scary thought!

Oh, that is a scary thought!
no kidding.
apologies for necroing
Anyway, I'd only make a wish if I was really desperate or I had to save somebody else, that one guy made a wish to save his family from starving, and didn't get that bad of a curse, maybe the Nightwacher likes altruism. Or she likes feeding people.

Remember how it works - you tell her what you want, and then she gives you what *she* thinks you deserve, plus a curse to go with it.
This. I would stay the hell away from the old magic unless it's for my life or my family. The farmer who asked for enough wares to get his family through hard times was the only one who did it right. Interestingly enough, his curse was the one that wasn't so bad in the end...

Which might imply that the severity of the curse is in proportion to the wastefulness of the wish.

What if you wished to not be cursed?
You don't start our cursed, so that wouldn't work. Nice try :)

anyway the Nightwatcher only gives you what you want if she feels like it. If you tried that, she'd probably turn you into a cremling and then step on you. Or something.

When you think about it, you can't really blame the nightwatcher for giving out curses; she probably has to deal with that kind of smartassery every day. I probably wouldn't be half that nice after a few hundred years of that.

I know what I'd wish for... The knowledge of who killed Asmodean!

But we already have that. Towers of Midnight revealed it.

Right, I keep forgetting that. Now if you'll just edit your quote...
Not that I really think anyone who actually cares about that detail hasn't already read the book.

There are lots of people who are still reading through WoT for the first time and haven't got to ToM yet. :o :P
