Someone broke into my house
« on: April 17, 2003, 04:41:31 PM »
Monday night, around midnight I was awakened by a noise. I had fallen asleep in the TV room and my fiance had gone into the bedroom to read (no doubt driven there by my snoring). So its pitch black in the house but I see a figure moving toward my kitchen. "Hon, what are you doing I said" kind of loudly because I have just woken up and I get cranky. The figure a person who looks to be about the same height and build of my fiance pauses and the heads into our study. I think to myself maybe she's just going to get some CD's or something when it hits me. That was not my Fiance.

You see on Sunday morning, around 2 o'clock, our neighbors down stairs were burglarized.  Monday night they came by to warn us. Astrid, My fiance and I joked a little about it. Their story didn't seem to fit what we had heard (Loud arguing) and so I had put it out of my mind. Untill then that is. I realized in an instant that there was someone strange in my house. Or rather leaving my house. I heard the venitian blinds rustle as whoever it was beat a rather hasty retreat out my study window. By the time I got there, they were gone. Shutting and locking the window I called the Police, who were there in five minutes. They got great prints, nothing was stolen (laptop and Computer stuff wasn't even touched).
I hope they catch whoever it was.

Im still not sure how I feel.

When I was living in Greensboro and working as a clerk in a Convience Store I was held up at knifepoint and that was a lot worse, but I still feel wierd.
Oddly this time I wasn't scared just surprised.

Where do you live now? And was your window not locked in the first place?

He's in Arlington, VA, and why his window wasn't locked none of us have any idea. but we mock him mercilously about it.

Also, he hasn't called yet. the punk.

I thought they had been locked since I moved in, they looked locked... but apparently they were just painted shut.  ... Now they are locked,... oh and I did call but your phone was busy.

Wow, neither of us have been having a great week. Someone ran into my car and totaled it last week. I've been car shopping and apartment hunting in the last two weeks of the semester.  :'( Pauvre moi. But at least I know who did the violating, a.k.a. stupid driving. That would freak me out.

BTW, I remember often complaining about "Utah drivers"--which, of course, would mean all the drivers from all over the country and world that were in Provo--but nothing compares to the stupidity and sheer craziness of Massachusetts drivers. People expect you to stop for them when they turn left in front of you in an uncontrolled intersection (you know, when you're driving along, minding your own business), expect you to stop so they can cut you off from any direction, and then there's the three-way intersections with no lights or markings.... Sheesh.

I've always been of the opinion (well, ever since I started going there on a regular basis) that Denver has the worst drivers in the world. Massachusets sounds worse, though, I admit.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention that I'm fine and so was the evil lady who pulled out in front of me. I'm now In Negotiations for a Saturn SL2. Anyone hear anything about them? It seems like a good car from the research I've done (it's a 2000).

Not nearly so fancy. It's just a regular compact car, but not the base model. The Ions (Saturn's new car) are really popular now, but it's not that either. But at least the car I'm looking at is a souped-up version. Power everything, cruise, great stereo system (CD and tape), remote for the locks and trunk, etc. And it has low miles, relatively.

But I've seen the SUV, just on the showroom floor, and it seems nice. I don't really go for SUVs, though. They're glorified station wagons. I mean, if you're going to get a truck, use it as a truck, man. You're talking to a girl who learned to drive on a stickshift 1978 Chevy Custom Deluxe dually, with straight pipes for a muffler, and those huge wing mirrors on the side for seeing when you hauled the horse trailer. Now THAT was a truck. SUVs in Boston are a little nonsensical. It's almost like driving a Ford F150 around Great Britain--possible, but rather clunky.

I used to hate SUV's untill I bought my new CRV. Now I love it. Glorified station wagon that it is its the perfect car for me down to the built in cooler and card table combo. It drives like a car and hauls like a truck.
