Brandon Sanderson / Offering your Narrative Soup essay on your site
« on: September 18, 2006, 08:39:08 AM »
Brandon,

I constantly refer people to your Narrative Soup article. Since Deep Magic is now defunct, it's a bit harder to find. Perhaps you want to sell it again. But if not, you might want to think about offering it on your website.

After talking to Brandon and making a difficult choice, I'm sorry to say that I won't be going to Worldcon this year, alas. I am mightily bummed, but that's life.

However, I do want to attend World Fantasy. I heard some of y'all are planning on going to that as well. Perhaps we can work something out there.

Brandon,

Thanks for the thoughtful reply. I think you've given me the answer, but it would be helpful to chat for 5 minutes to be sure if you have the time. I'm working on the house today and should be available anytime you want to call.

Yeah, that would be a heck of a travel bill. Not to mention the small seats in the Asian airlines that would probably traumatize me.

Of course, I was assuming NASFIC next year and World Fantasy. Worldcon with you guys sounds like a no-brainer-idiot-if-you-miss situation. But there are complications. I just need to know, on a scale of 1 to 10, how to gauge this opportunity. And then I can weigh it against the other things that are pressing me.

Brandon,

I need some advice about this trip. My wife made a huge concession tonight and I *could* go, but I need to simply run my situation by someone who's been there done that to see if it's worth it this year or if I should just wait for next. Wondering if you might feel comfortable emailing me offline or giving me a call.

Thanks,

John

but I'd be willing to get you into the Hugo ceremony pre-party (I can bring a guest) and into the Tor party (where I can bring a guest) as well as give you firm introductions to my editor and my agent.

You're killing me. Killing me.

Folks, it appears my window of opportunity opened ... and then closed again <sigh>. I so very much wanted to go this year (needed to). I'm so sorry if I created more problems by providing a possible solution to your travel issues and thereby caused you to miss others that now might not be available. Please accept my most sincere apologies.

Fellfrosch, yes, Laketown is the spot. Do you know the area?

Okay. This all sounds very good.

I know I promised to confirm today. But we've had an unfortunate development. We're building our home (up at the south end of Bear Lake). All our subs locked in to finish Friday. Meeting that date would allow me to go. Well, we got a call this afternoon that doesn't bode well.

I'm trying to work it out. Tomorrow by noon I'll know for sure if this is going to work and post my confirmation. So I'm still tentative. I hope this hasn't caused problems. Give me 12 hours.

I don't have a place to stay yet.  I don't even have a membership yet, so I'm trying to figure everything out.

Tell me this: when is everyone I'd be traveling with expecting to leave and come back?

I will know by tomorrow if I'm going down. If I am, I would be able to drive a minivan.

Eric said there were two folks with a room looking for rides. Would this solve the issue? Would I be welcome to hook up?
