So, I would like to run a campaign on TWG for the summer. Assuming anyone is interested.
The game will be set in the modern Central American country of Ohmteca located in the Yucatan. Yes, I know Ohmteca doesn't really exist, but it will someday.
The plot is around a strange pyramid that has risen in the capitol city of Teopolan after an earthquake. The country has declared a state of emergency and has requested the help from the UN. The UN has turned them down. So President Catrina Gomez has requested the aid of all vigilantes, mercenaries and super-heroes to help what she describes as a "war-zone."
Yes, this is a super-hero campaign. So bring me your super-dudes, your wonder-chicks and your mighty-whatever. Get ready to do battle Latin style.
And the system of choice for this campaign...drum roll...Mutants and Masterminds. Yeah, I won! I won! I won!
So, Questions? Comments? Anyone interested?

I think i shall try to import my Scrapper (with Dark Melee/Super Reflexes/Super Jump powers) character from City of Heroes!
'SideSwiped Girl' shall conquer new ground!
-
Before I forget, the PCs will be starting at whatever Power Level you decide.
1. Just take what ever power level you've decided and square it.
2. Then add your chosen power level to it's square.
3. Then divide that by your original chosen power level.
4. Then add 38 power levels.
5. Then subtract you original powel level.
6. And finally divide that by three.
The result is what power level we're starting at.
-
this online or on the table?
-
I'm hoping on-line.
-
I'm thinking about it 42, but I'm very hesitent on joining another forum game considring they start off with a lot of guster but allwayse burn out realy fast.
-
yeah, sign me up for as long as it goes.
-
14?
-
14 would be good, but I just rethought it so rethink the power level thing. So we can be thinking together.
Also, I'm not planning to set people up in "adventuring groups" per say. Mostly because I don't like trying to force players to work together when one or more of them may clearly have no intention of working with the rest. So if you want to adventure with someone else, please come up with a reason on your own why your character would be with their character.
Also, I need a name for this campaign. I'm thinking El Sexto Sol or Toltec Tango or Rio Sangre. What do people like?
-
As for the duration of this campaign. It will last as long as it lasts, but I have an okay record of keeping campaigns going, at least the table-top versions. My longest campaign to date has been a year.
-
I like Toltec Tango
By starting with "2" just for kicks, I ended up with level 13.
Which works for all numbers. SO I'm not sure where Gemm's getting 14.
13's a good number for level.
If I end up being lazy, can I just use of the extant characters in the books?
-
I used 1.
-
yeah, and when you go through the process starting with 1, you get 13, not 14
1 squared = 1
1 +1 = 2
2/1 =2
2+38=40
40-1=39
39/3 = 13
so,... not 14
-
Aha, add 38. When I did it is was 41.
-
no. When you add 38 to 2 you do not get 41. Not when you're doing math in a base 10 system using standard arabic numerals.
-
In the instructions it referred to using 41, not 38. Excuse me.
-
Messing with people's heads can be so much fun.
Yes, the correct answer is now 13, is was 14, but I changed my mind and thus changed yours. Oooooh.
-
are you on something right now, 42?
-
The ussual array of drugs and sleep-deprivation.
-
If he was wouldn't you want some?
-
So I have Gemm, SE and Entropy as players. Anyone else? Come on, you know you want to.
-
Send character ideas to: [email protected]
Don't forget postage.
I'm hoping to get things rolling by the start of next week.
-
can I generate my character? or will you be doing that?
-
you can generate your character.
-
so, i have an email, I have permission, I have an objective, and I even sort of have a deadline. I think Ihave all I need. We doing Power Level 13? Or has that changed?
-
The power level hasn't changed (13), though I may award some extra power points to those who need them.
-
I am interested, but I don't know M&M. I could look up stuff on the web and generate a character that way if you toss me a link. I'm pretty good at figuring it out myself if I have the necessary material.
-
Check mutantsandmasterminds.com. I'm not sure how much they have online. It's OGL, so loosely d20 based, but with major changes. Point based progression and character design. Probably the easiest thing to do is come up with a good character design, specify what you want him capable of, powers and feats and skills. then have 42 build the stats.
Just as a reference, you should be able to build many of the justice league with a lvl 13 character. Probalby Spidey and nearly all the Avengers too (many of the Avengers, in fact, are probably lower power level).
-
Just send me a good description of what you want in a character. Personality, background and abilities. I can build the stats.
-
okey dokey. I'll have that along tonight or tomorrow
-
42, send me an email at the address on my profile and I'll respond with my idea.
-
Done.
-
hrm... My ninja appears to be level 20
I can drop that down a level still easily. but the most helpful thing would be if we used the "skill points cost less" variant in the errata. If we did it with even 2 ranks per point, that would drop me 5 levels right there. Skills are just too expensive the normal way. so,... can i take advantage of that rule? They recommend one character point buying 2 or even 3 ranks.
-
Hmm..no wonder you're defending D20. Your secret is reveled. You are nothing more than a....MIN-MAXER!
What kind of poor roleplayer are you, trying to use the rules that will make your character more powerful in game terms? You should be ashamed of yourself! Go back to your war and VG games, where game advantage belongs! True roleplayers make weak, incompitant characters for fun!
And yes, I realised I just paid myself out. Just part of the triple-layered irony of this post.
-
I'll refer you to several posts where EUOL actually defends min-maxing.
but in my defense: I built this according to character. As it stands, he has exactly TWO super feats. No superpowers at all. The utility of skills pales compared to super powers and feats, which is why there is an optional rule to make them cost less.
I took as a "weakness" a code of honor, which led me to remove a few skills like Disguise and Bluff, figuring this would be how he would use it. Bluff, incidentally, has a great combat use with feints and such, but I decided not to use it for character reasons. I decided he was out of the monastary for the first time, so he still believed in the goodness of people, and so I also declined to give him Sense Motive, which counters bluff and means he'll be easily duped.
I honestly think skills cost too much for what little advantage they give, and that's why I want the cost break. He's not superhuman with the exception of his hearing and his "blindsight," so I don't think it would be giving him too much advantage.
So, I'll just wait till 42 makes a call on this.
-
I'm kind of waiting to get in the other charcter ideas before I make a decision about skill costs. If I think that the others could benefit from the extra skill ranks then I will do it. As of right now the NPCs are built on the standard 1 point = 1 rank system.
-
k, I'll be finalizing two versions, and I'll send you the one the meets the rules.
-
What i want is kind of a Rogue (xmen) vampire. He can fly, and when his hands (only his hands, not like his forehead) touch another human he drains their hitpoints and adds it to his own. This power should go through clothes, armour, etc so he can basically never touch another human with his hands. If there is sufficient points, give him super senses.
And his background will be that he was a mayoral candidate in the US, who shook so many hands that a passing supervillian thought it would be amusing to curse him not to be able to shake hands. The flight and other abilities developed after he sucked a bunch of villians.
-
make sure to give him the shmooze... er... Diplomacy and Bluff skills.
-
I got your email, 42, and will have the character info along today/tonight.
-
Entropy, that's a good idea. Send me more info via email. Just one little kink, there are no hit points in Mutants and Masterminds. So we'll have to find an alternative, like strength or constitution. I have some ideas.
-
this sounds really fun but I have no idea how or what to do to play, could someobdy please explain. and please dont quote other parts of the thread in an explanation, it waent ight over my head...
-
Just come up with a super-hero idea, preferably with a latin twist, and send it to me. Include character details and background info. I'll handle the mechanics.
If you haven't played an on-line rpg like this before it's pretty simple. I post story stuff and you post a response for your character as to how he will act. Then I post, then you post, then I post, and so and so on.
-
does the character have to be human?
-
Not necessarily, but you probably would want a character that can interact with people. On-line formats like this don't really lend themselves to hack-and-slash.
-
well what about a vaegan, it's kinda like a werwolf but a tiger not a wolf, and it has wings and is a whole lot bigger, would that be okay?
-
I think someone has a secret Furry obsession.
-
Does it have a human form? If so, a definite yes. If not I'll have to do some thinking.
What I learned from playing AORP is that the most valuable character assest were a quirky personality, skills, and witty remarks. Being able to put the smack down on something was helpful, but not as helpful as it would initially seem.
-
especialy in Forum RPGs where there is much less combat.
-
I dont have a firry obsession. the vaegan(does have a human for, kinda reminiscent of lynx from chrono cross) is just my birth sign,
-
Seriously, dude, show me a copy of the zodiac that includes a bastard offbreed of a tiger and a bird.
-
it doesn't have to be a bastard. It's parent could be married.
Though I find that unlikely. Most likely the wolf ate the bird.
-
y'know, the Female spider eats the male after it mates.
-
especially if it's a hyper-evolved rodent-spider.
-
I hereby declare my birthsign to be Cthulhu.
Can I play him in the game as well?
-
I declare my ninja's birthsign to be Shub-Niggarath.
-
My character's birthsign is Laa-Laa of Teletubbies fame.
-
*Spriggan slowly backs away from Kije then runs*

Alright, my Online/tabletop RPG experience ends at Baulder's Gate: Dark Aliiance, which I think is D20... so I therefor have no idea how to score my character when I make him. I am in, by the way, so include me. Do you think someone can send me a quick guiide to scoring skills for M&M or do my scoring for me or something? And my charcacter will be in the mail withing 24 hours I think.
-
I'm not familiar with M&M either. I asked for info onthe system and was directed tot he M&M site (www.mutantsandmasterminds.com) but wasn't able to find much (doesn't mean it's not there.) What I ended up doing was sending 42 my character idea, with variables power-wise, so he could create my character more or less within the power range of the game. It was just late last night that I sent it, and so I haven't heard back yet, so I don't know if that works well or not.
-
M&M is OGL. What it retains, essentially, is the prime abilities. (Str, Dex, Con, etc). Those are free up to 10, then cost 1 pt per 1 ability raise.
Feats cost 2 pts
Skills (under standard ruels) are 1 pt for 1 rank (there are no "class skills"). I'm still hoping 42 will let me use the optional rule for cheaper skills, skills are way expensive.
Super Powers are variable. I'm not listing them all. My recommendation is send 42 your concept and let him work it out.
-
Sounds like a plan. I am assuming I need a backround, prefered skills and how much of each I would like, Character Name, Type (nuetral, chaotic nuetral, ect.) and other common RPG factors... all this should be included, correct?
