Yes, more articles please.
I just left one sitting in RPGs.
-
Races of the wild review is in.
-
I think stacer and I are still wondering if a certain board member has had a chance to look at our stuff or if there is someone else who is willing to edit for us.
-
I will edit Stacer's report today. Am I editing it so we cna post it, or editing it so that you can go back over and do another draft?
-
If you think it's good enough to run, great. I just have had a very fried brain lately, so I wanted other eyes to look at it. If you think it needs something more, or needs to be reworked, give it back to me with suggestions.
-
Okay, this didn't happen today, but I'll see what I can do Tuesday at lunch.
-
EUOLogy is posted, Fell. Still needs the byline at the bottom and a forum topic.
-
Ah, the byline. I'll add it. Everything else is done.
-
Hey, Fell I sent you my pre-made M&M adventure rough draft. Did you get it? Will you be able to edit it?
-
I'm actually sitting down to edit it at this very moment.
<edit> Done, sent it to you. with some comments.
-
Article sitting in RPG.
-
Another article sitting in RPGs.
-
Yet another article sitting in RPGs.
-
We're not sitting in RPGs, we're swimming in them!
-
I just posted a poll in the form of an article. If you ever run out of ideas, Dan, you can use this one. I won't feel bad if you don't, however. It's just a clever little pun idea that occurred to me one day.
-
Me gusta. I don't need it this week, because I have one all about you, but I'll use yours next week sometime.
-
Fell
I'm seeing HHGttG tonight. You can count on a review from me by COB on Thursday, in time for the official opening on Friday.
-
And we're all officially jealous.
-
Very cool. EUOLogy this week, EUOL?
-
umm...lets see what Fell forgot on that list.
RoTS review, DeathKnell Review, Nerdery next week.
It appears you don't want to assign a day to people anymore, if that's the case let me know and I won't plan on haveing articles done on Thursday.
-
The reason I asked for additions to the list is because I don't know what people have going on. You're more than welcome to keep Thursdays if you want, but sinec you've been pumping out Nerderies and Thursdays and covering for dropped EUOLogies I figured you'd appreciate a break.
Like I said, though, just let me know what you're working on and when you expect it to be done, and we can work it into the schedule. That's why we have it three weeks in advance--we can adjust it as needed. I'd just like to know what's coming up, rather than roll in at 8 in the morning and hope we have an article ready to post.
-
cool. I'll have a Deathknell review done tonight or late tomorrow, you're welcome to use it whenever.
-
I'll put it on the schedule for Thursday, then. Thanks.
-
Review sitting in RPGs.
Need to create a macro for posting this...
-
Death Kneel in. Also I'm currently working on a SWM squad article and a RoTS review.
-
Today I'll be going out to get shots for my photo essay of Buffalo for TWG. OH how magnanimous.
-
HHG review is in. Give me a sec to add in a URL for the pic in the blurb then you can get it ready for posting on Friday morning.
Edit: Done.
-
EUOLogy is up. Sprig, what are the chances of you getting a shot or two of the book to stick in it?
You can use this tomorrow, or you can put it off until next week. No problems here. (Realize, I'm kind of on a bi-monthly schedule for these EUOLogies. No guarantee I'll have one for next week.)
-
I can throw some pics in later tonight.
-
There's a news item on the Narnia movie due out in December sitting in the stack viewable to mods only. Post when you will.
-
Hey Fell /\
Well, that didn't work *stupid page break
You see the news article?
-
I know it's there, but I haven't looked at it yet. Is it time sensitive?
-
Not greatly. It would be best if it was posted in the next week or so, but the movie isn't due out until this winter.
-
I will post it soon. Gracias.
-
Jam Session #1: Kicking the Sandbag is in Videogames, of course.
Also, The BIG Weekend Day 1 is in rpgs. Expect day 2 and maybe day 3 later today.
-
Your news post will go up on Monday, Skar. Sound groovy?
-
Groovy.
-
Hey! The brothers Gibb sent me a review of Kingdom of Heaven. I'd rather see that posted than the news article.
Of course both would be great... Up to you. Also, I couldn't come up with a front page blurb for the KoH review. Help me out?
-
You want this on Monday? I think we can swing that, and then the narnia thing on Friday.
-
Ok, all the con reports are in.
Next from me you can expect some book reviews of classic and not so classic sci fi, followed by some RPG stuff I'm not ready to disclose at this time. Just reviews though, nothing exciting.
Once the first Jam Session gets posted, I'll try to get another in so there's always one in the works.
I have a ton of assignments and tomorrow I start prac, so expect me to be a little sporadic after today. That said, writing reviews is relaxing and keeps me in a writing mode while giving me a break from assignments so you never know.
-
Just as a reminder: I noticed that Axis & Allies: D-Day is still listed for this Wednesday, but we decided to bump it till the real D-Day (June 6). Something else will have to go on Wednesday.
-
Yeah, I have to redo that whole schedule. We have plenty, though, so it shouldn't be too hard.
-
WFRP review is in! *twitches*
-
Our schedule needs help.
I didn't remember for sure if the big weekend reports were supposed to be Jam Session or not, but since doing one every other week would the con report enormously out of date, I assumed they were separate. Let me know if I've got this wrong.
I think this schedule gets us through the end of the D&D backlog, but more will be coming. We also have six WFRP reviews to kick out, a bunch of CCGs coming down the pipe (five that I can think of, with more on the way), so that's a lot of stuff to plan for. I'd kind of like to do a Guild Wars blog, but either way we'll need something about it in the next few weeks.
Somewhere in there, the 20th, I think, is a Magic prerelease, so I'd like to do a prerelease report if Prometheus is up for it. I'll talk to him tomorrow.
If there is anything else you guys are up to (such as Heroclix articles, which we could stand some more of, and Spriggan's SW minis articles, for which I don't know the timeline), let me know.
Also, it's still five weeks away but I'd like to plan a D-Day/WW2 theme week for the June 6 through 10. All start thinking about it.
edit: I knew I'd forgotten something. 42 has an adventure that I have yet to look at. I'll do that now.
edit 2: I just looked it over and it's great. We really need more adventures like this. I'll put it on the schedule after I hear back from 42.
-
Yeah, they're seperate. I could probably easily do a Jam Sesh weekly, but can't guarantee it and it fits better fortnightly.
I might have some more book reviews soonish. That said, I'm extradinarily busy and guarentee nothing but another Jam Sesh on time. You've got a fair bit of stuff from me in the pile though anyway.
The adventures are an excellent thing, they'll draw us visitors. I may get some happening eventually after I see what were looking for.
If we have too many articles we can always run two a day or on weekends, but that just leaves us dry when we run out, and we will.
-
Well, I've sent a query to Green Ronin to get their blessing on my adventure. Hopefully I hear back from them soon. After that, we can publish it, we hope.
-
I know green ronin has a bit up on their website saying they are not accepting book or adventure submissions but I can't see them taking offence to you putting it up here.
-
Yeah, I really think they'll go for it--we're not asking them to publish, just to approve it.
-
Just submitted my review for the WFRP GM's Pack.
Bestiary is up next.
-
Damnit! :P I was meaning to do a double review of the GM and character packs. Though I still could, of course.
-
I'm just upholding my end of the bargain Fell offered. Review of the GM Pack, Bestiary, and Ashes of Middenheim in exchange for that last book.
On another note, NA NA NA NA BOO BOO!
-
Well, that whole Narnia press release thing didn't work very well.
It's nice to limit posting to one a day in order to stretch out our meager written material but I suppose we'll just have to do two things at once occasionally in order to avoid the Narnia scenario. My fault incidentally on the Narnia thing. I gave Fell a wrong impression of the release's time sensitivity.
Movie stuff tends to be generally more time sensitive. Should we just plan on posting movie things the soonest possible moment, whether it means doubling up or not? The big exception to the soon as possible rule would be reviews of old movies that have been in the rental space for a while already. But that's about the only exception I can see. To that end, I'll continue to give Fell as much advance warning as possible on Press screenings and pre-release DVD reviews.
What say ye?
-
I don't mind doubling up at all, but I really should have read the thing so that I knew it had to go up last Friday instead of this Friday. When Sprig mentioned in the forum that the trailer was up, I thought, "hm, I wonder what that article is about?" and read it, and realized we'd missed the boat. In the future, just tell me when to post things like this and I'll do it--press releases don't really deserve their own day anyway.
-
roger dodger.
-
The only thing about movies doubling up, that I see, is that we don't want to have two on one day and nothing on another. Usually this can be worked around if we have advanced notice of what's coming in so we'll know if we have the material (as we definitely do right now) to spare an extra article or not. If not, then we know we need to change days on something.
-
I don't really think it's that big of deal to post two articles one day and then nothing the next. As long as articles keep coming I don't really see the problem. A lot of websites will skip a day occassionally.
-
As it stands now, we have a full schedule at least three weeks in advance, with plenty of stuff waiting in the wings. I don't think we're in danger of dropping a day anytime soon.
-
I don't really think it's that big of deal to post two articles one day and then nothing the next. As long as articles keep coming I don't really see the problem. A lot of websites will skip a day occassionally.
and it's irritating. You can count on regular visitors better if you have regular content. Daily = better than staggared.
and yeah, like I said and fell repeated, right now that's not an issue. It was several months ago when I was doing the posting though.
-
This is our third week using the "three week advance schedule" system, and it's working really well--maybe we should tell other people about this phenomenal new "planning ahead" stuff we've discovered. I think it could be big.
-
huge. Bigger even than my ego.
-
Now don't let's be silly.
Speaking of movies, have you been able to get a preview showing of Ep3, Skar? I want to know if I should schedule the review for the 19th, when it comes out, or the 20th, when you've had a chance to write after seeing it on the 19th.
-
No preview for me. :(
-
Also I'd like to note that posting only press releases as that day's content is kinda lame, better then nothing I guess but a Press release shouldn't be set as a single day's item in advance.
I was thinking of adding a news section, much like gamespots, just for things like this. We'll have to see if we want to have to constantly throw up things in it or not.
-
So, Green Ronin has asked for the .pdf of my little adventure. I've already sent it to them and hopefully I'll hear back from them in the next week or so. I told them that we'd publish this around the 20th, if the scheadule won't allow this, I guess we'll have to figure something out. Hopefully, we'll get it back earlier and be able to post it earlier. I figure the WotC back-log can wait a day.
I'm now starting to put together a .pdf of a mini-adventure written by EP. Assuming I don't get completely sidetracked by other stuff.
I also hope to get a squel adventure put together for the one I wrote.
-
I'm sure, Fell, that I will have a review ready in time to post on the 19th. I will, after all, have several hours to write it before you wake up.
-
So I got approval from Green Ronin. I just have to make some minor legal changes and I think I'm going to change some stats to reflect errata.
So I'm thinking, perhaps we could publish it on the 18th instead of the 20th. That leaves the 20th available for Star Wars stuff, and the adventure makes a good primer for D20 Past.
-
We are building up a backlog of WFRP stuff I believe - perhaps we could do a big day of nothing but WFRP? Several articles at once, just to show our devotion to it :P
Plus that makes it likely we'd get a link to the mainpage by Green Ronin or Black Industries...
-
18th sounds good for the adventure, 42.
We can do Star Wars on the 19th, but I don't want to step on Skar's toes for this. Movie are his department, so clear it with him if you want to do a review. The trouble is, I'm sure we'll have several people who all want to review it.
We also need to keep in mind that one of those days, maybe the 20th, we'll have a magic prerelease primer from Prometheus. What delightful alliteration.
-
I bring it up mainly because we could probably have it on the front page by 4am eastern. But if Skar wants to do it, that's fine. I go to so few movies that I tend to review them.
-
No, I think it's a very good idea. There's also the possibility that we could get Dex to review it--he's seeing it tonight, and we would have time to write the review, edit it, and post it by the 18th at least. We'll have to see what Skar thinks.
-
Let me just say that "42's M&M Adventure" is a movie I'd pay big money to see.
-
only if it starred Elmo.
-
I've emailed Dex at an address I got off of one of his many websites. Hopefully it's still good.
Even if he does review it, I'd like to see a review from e as well. We've had more than one review for a movie before, namely LoTR 1. No reason we couldn't do it again.
We could make the blurb point to Dex's at first and then add links to the new ones as they come in, and move the blurb back up to the top of the front page on the 19th.
e, send me your review as soon as it's written and I'll do my level best to get to it first thing in the morning so Fell can post it at his earliest convenience.
-
Yes: send your review directly to Skar, to make sure that he can do whatever he needs. I won't be able to post anything until around 11 or 12 that morning, because I'm seeing the movie at 8 :)
-
WFRP WFRP WFRP WFRP!
YAY!
Sorry, I couldn't help it.
-
Are we going to get a Eugoogly today?
-
/me tries to say "Euogoogly" out loud and fails.
-
That's because you put an extra e in it. As befits your name, I suppose.
-
Actually thats an o.
-
Not in his spelling, in his pronunciation. I know these things.
-
Fell and I are at constant, violent war with each other on the psychic plane. One of the results of this is a clairaudiant understanding of everything the other says.
He hums teletubbies tunes in the shower? You don't want to know what he mumbles in his sleep.
-
Also, e chews with his mouth open. And I can HEAR YOU IN MY MIND!
-
I do that just to annoy you though. It works.
-
That happened at first with me and spriggan, but then we teamed up to fight the evil gummi bears.
-
you must have been an effective team, for I have never ever met an evil gummi bear.
-
Yes. We ate them all. Then we killed all the dragons, and turned them into australians. And thus jampaladin was born.
He should really thank us.
-
Why should I thank you? That just means you're at fault for all the idiots I deal with every day.
-
Jam Session #2 sitting in Other.
-
Submitted The Old World Bestiary Review
-
This week's nerdery is in.
Also for the adventure that's going up Wensday I was thinking we should do something like Wizards where we have an introductory page that presents a summery and other info then a link to a zip of the PDF.
-
A fine idea. If you can get the file from 42, zip it, upload it, and send me the link, I'll post it with a summary page.
-
Well, I sent Spriggy the file. I also got final approval from Green Ronin and the official Superlink logo for the adventure.
Now i just have to go about getting a link to TWG on Green Ronin's superlink page.
-
ya, ok I'll throw it somewhere tonight.
-
Umm I'll post the link the the admin blurb in a bit but I noticed two errors that I don't know if you want to fix or not.
The first is TWG's web address isn't anywere on the PDF and the second is all the text on page 6 is in bold print.
-
www.timewastersguide.com is in the legal stuff (page 3) and I have no clue what is up with page 6. It isn't really in bold, it's kind of been faux bolded, but not really. The actually bold text is thicker and darker than that version. The darkened text isn't showing up in the indesign version, just the exported version.
-
This week's nerdery is in.
Also for the adventure that's going up Wensday I was thinking we should do something like Wizards where we have an introductory page that presents a summery and other info then a link to a zip of the PDF.
The little summary was a great idea as I was initially going to give it a skip thinking it a book review. Shows how well I actually read the headlines.
-
E! Were you able to watch EPIII last night? Are we going to get a review today?
-
Calm down man! You can see it, then jump out your window with the rest of those ravid fanboy's. Whom won't be hurt at all because they live in their parents basement. Ho ho, thank you Conan.
-
I'll have an article for the Magic: The Gathering prerelease coming tomorrow, coming as usual after the last moment. I'll be out there before long.
-
My Prerelease Tactics article is in the system now. It doesn't have HTML coding in the body yet.
-
I'll go through and try and get it formatted before Fell notices.
-
Posted!
-
Movie review in movies. I'm sure you can guess what it's a review of.
-
Article sitting in Books.
I'm not sure it's actually any good, so it it isn't I'd appreciate someone rejecting it can giving some feedback.
-
Review in Books.
Yes, it's one of those productive weeks of mine.
-
Hey!!!
Umm... Could I do something like a column of minimalist and completely unhelpful reviews, where I name off a bunch of things (generally books, but anything else at my own discretion), and then give a sentence or less or more of my opinion on it and recommendation (length at my discretion)?
-
sort of an annotated opinion list? sounds cool. I dunno if it's TWG material, though. It doesn't sound like a lot of fun to just read unless you're looking for Ookla's opinion on a book.
-
Which everyone would obviously want!! ;D
-
review in books.
-
Jam Session #3 is in. Editors, please note the note at the bottom - you'll need to do some editing before you post it.
-
Another review in books.
-
And yet another in Books.
-
Ashes of Middenheim review in.
Natch!
-
Two things, Jam:
1) I don't have the manual prowess right now to do any coding for your images. I'll try to get to it later, or convince someone else to do it for me (which is far more likely).
2) You're name got cut off from the attribution line, and I don't remember what it is. Let me know and I'll stick it back in.
-
From now until TWG 4.0 please submit any pictures that will be used on the site to www.legacieslost.com/4images you'll need to create an account to be able to do so. THis way I can work on, and get feed back, on how our picture system will work.
-
1) Sure thing - I can't complain, since I'm too crap to do it myself
2) My name? As in my real name?
3) Sure, I'll submit images there from now on.
-
question: why was WWII theme week day 1 on June 6 but June 7 was WWII theme week day 3?
-
That was actually the Wednesday post, but I did it late Tuesday night so the wrong date got added to the blurb. I'll fix it for the sake of propriety.
-
Jam Session 4 is in.
Jammin'!
-
And a review in RPGs.
Aren't I prolific?
-
Howcome 800 words looks so short on our site? Time to make our margins freaking huge so it looks like Fell's getting his monies worth with us.
-
He does get his money's worth - we're not getting paid. We put the "free" in Freelance.
-
If you kids don't complaining about your wages, I'm going to start putting the lance in freelance, by way of a very large man on a very large horse.
-
piffle. That's what I say to your threats. Again: PIFFLE!
-
There's a review of Howl's Moving Castle up. It releases this Friday so...
Sorry I didn't warn you about it coming in, Fell. I didn't think I could make it to the screening until things changed at the last minute.
-
Up it shall go.
-
HEY! The Brothers Gibb reviewed Batman Begins. It should go up ASAP I think. Perhaps today?
-
Perhaps. I'll see what I can do.
-
Thanks, you rock. As always.
-
HC Batman Begins Villian team is in.
-
Huzzah!
Any other articles in the works I should know about? I'm going to finally update our schedule tonight.
-
The gibbs brothers asked me to put up a news item about their upcoming play, MorMAN. I put it in the movies section as news. Feel free to fiddle with the blurb if you like.
-
Fell?
-
Sorry, Fell's caught up with something. I'm posting articles this week, and I had some scans I was doing. I do mean to get to that today, no worries. IN fact, I'm in between things so I'm going to go do that now.
-
uhm... I screwed up the blurb. I improvised something, but tell me if you want it different.
-
For any Time-Waster's who plan to be in Utah (or want to make plans to be there), there's an encore run of a funny play by our own Brothers Gibb. It ran to critical acclaim and sold out shows last year so they figured you wanted some more, man.
^This would be great, man.
-
done
-
Hey, editor types. There's a EUOLogy up. You can post it now, or next week, no biggy.
-
Got another Gibbs review on War of the Worlds in hand. I'll try and get it whipped into shape and up tonight. Just FYI
-
New Jam Sesh in Movies.
-
WoW review up now.
-
How much of that is supposed to be blurb, Skar?
-
Tom Cruise and his family are terrorized by a close encounter of the worst kind in <link>War of the Worlds</link>.
Not the star names, they should just be on the top line.
-
cool. Look for it in a couple seconds
-
Add these to your schedule:
Villains Unlimited (I'll review it, then give it to Spriggy to love and cherish forever)
Rifter 29
Rifter 30
MercTown
MercOps
-
No article today? It's submitted and just needs to be edited.
-
that was my fault. I just flaked. Sorry guys. I back-dated the article to make it look good.
-
I've been out of town on vacation, sorry for the late posting of the Fantastic Four review from the Gibbs brothers.
It's up.
-
I'll put it on the schedule to post soon.
-
SE, you may want to fix your Nerdery 25 blurb. Last I checked, the first word in the blurb was spelled with the g after the n, not before.
Unless you're setting a spelling precedent, in which case, I didn't say anythign.
-
I'm sure he was trying to make a statement but I went ahead and changed it for us unenlightened.
-
I'll dow aht I want!
-
Review of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by the Gibbs Brothers is up. Since we do in fact have this in time for the opening, maybe we could push it up today or tomorrow? Just a thought.
-
Well if it doesn't go up today I doubt you'll see it until Monday since our Editors are the defenders of a alternate universe, where green is blue and blue is a flavor, on the week ends.
-
I think we should double post it with FF4 today.
-
yeah, forbidding acts of gord, I'll put it up soon.
-
Thanks
ooh. Note that the well in the blurb is missing the e, reading "wll."
And while were at it, I just noticed that movie is spelled move in the FF4 blurb.
-
Does TWG do requests for articles on specific movies/games/etc.?, out of curiosity?
-
We can depending if we can get ahold of said movies/games/etc., if we have to spend our own money (since there isn't a buget for TWG, only our personal funds) then probaly not. I'll make a "request for articles" thread in suggestions.
http://www.timewastersguide.com/boards/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=suggestions;action=display;num=1121566839
-
What we do, as editors, is contact companies and request materials to review. We're not really requesting specific articles, since that implies a call for writers to do something, but we do often request specific materials from companies. If there's something you, as a writer, have in mind, you're best bet is to contact me and/or Fell off forum (via email or IM, email preferred).
-
What he was asking SE, as you can see from the new thread I made, was if people could request us to do reviews that they would like to see.
-
well, then ignore what I said as a non-sequitor.
-
Instead of ignoring it for the reasons we usually give.
-
what other meaning could I have?
-
Another question: If you guys were sent a music CD, would you review it?
-
probally if we had someone willing to review music, JP has been wanting a music section for a while now but I think that it'll just turn into one of our many dead sections.
-
I plan to start reviewing CDs pretty soon, and declare myself head of a music section. I don't expect it to be big or our most popular, but it'd be a cool addition, since I'd focus on a variety of styles, older stuff worth picking up rather than the latest pop thing, and a variety of free, indie and less mainstream stuff.
-
yeah, I'd review music if I were sent it. I'd run music reviews if we got them.
but we'd need a bunch before we could consider a new section a need.
-
You said we could start a new section if I reviewed twenty cds. That'll take one week of me in high productivity mode.
-
I SAID NOTHING!
Maybe Fell did though. I don't actually make that final decision.
-
I think it was more in the format "I'm going to send you reviews until you guys are forced to start a new section and put me in charge."
-
Most excellent. After I see a few of Jam's reviews, I may start submitting reviews of my own.
-
Don't hold your breath. "Soon" means "sometime between the present and before I decide it's a stupid idea and can't be bothered, or the heat death of the universe, whichever comes sooner."
-
You said we could start a new section if I reviewed twenty cds. That'll take one week of me in high productivity mode.
That was probably Fell as SE said. I actually hope we don't plan on adding any new deparments anytime soon since:
1) We've allready got 2 dead and 1 that is almost dead.
2) Not sure on this one yet, but the new menu design may not be very modular so we won;t be easly be able to add things to it.
-
I have no intention of adding a music department. Nor do I remember approving a new menu design.
-
Why do you think I used such words as "may" and "not sure yet"?
-
Oh, you'll think differently when you're starved for any content in existing sections but have twenty JP CD reviews sitting in the database....
-
Patrick Gibbs just sent me a review of Harry Potter 6.
It's up and viewable by admins.
-
Out of curiosity, what are the dead sections?
-
webcomics. Tower of Cheapness. We get very, very little content for CCGs and video games too.
-
We want to start moving our freebie stuff (like online adventures) into the Tower of Cheapness. Make it into a downloads section.
-
If I can get myself to get around to it, I could probably do some Tower of Cheapness submits.
I tend to only play older videogames, so I'm not sure if reviews of them would be as helpful.
-
The ever more prolific Brothers Gibb have given me a DVD review of xXx: State of the Union, with Iced Tea. I hope to have that in by tomorrow.
-
Hey Skar, just a request, could you ask the Gibb to not always submit their articles with the titles and other things in all CAPS please? It's kind of a hassle to have to read through them changing them.
-
No prob. I'll just start taking care of it in my pre-post edit.
Incidentally, they'll be reviewing "The Island" this weekend. I keep trying to get to the XXX review... it hits shelves this coming Tuesday.
-
Cool, thanks a lot.
-
The Gibbs brother's review of "The Island" is up.
-
Frankly right now we could use any extra content we can get our hands on JadeKinght, I really don't care if it's old games or what not. During the summer we always tend to run into a shortage of review materials, due to all the conventions going on the people that are responsible for sending us stuff are busy and never get around to it. It also doesn't help we get like 80%+ of all our review content from 2 companies. That's why we've been making an effort to branch out with things like the TWGventures and columns by me and JP, for the next 3 weeks the only articles we've currently got scheduled are all done by the same people (4 people if you count that Fell tends to post his stuff when he gets it done) and that's a lot of work for just a handfull of writers.
In fact if anyone has any desire to help out with articles over the next month or for a longer period of time just let Fell, SE or I know about it. Posting it here would be the best idea since we could all comment on it. If it's a review just check to see if we already have one for the item and if we do will your's be any different in opinion? If it's a column post what you are wanting to do here and how often and what day you'd like to do it. If it's the occasional random editorial/rant that's fine too.
-
yeah, the original point of this thread was to beg you to submit. I like knowing there's stuff without having to search for it. Please, guys, submit stuff. "Nostalgiary" stuff -- old games or books, are fine. You'll note that we have columns and articls about A Wizard of Earthsea, TWERPS, and so forth. A
And they don't have to be reviews. Memories, strategies, commentary, etc. We like them all.
-
yes this thread line was initially for begging, but that's so un-vogue now a days while asking is "in". And I don't know about you but I'm stylish.
-
then how about this: I COMMAND you all to submit material, etc etc.
-
Ohh commanding someone, that's defiantly going to resonate well with the hip crowd.
Anyway, I still think it would be ideal to get 2 more column writers so we could have all of them, Nerdery and JS, as once a month deals.
-
Well, unfortunately I'm going on vacation with little to no internet access for 3 weeks (until I get to Education Week). After that I'd love to write some stuff.
And I'd gladly volunteer to help out with one of the columns from time to time if the need should arise.
-
So I finished formatting EP's online D&D adventure, finaly. I've sent copies to Fell and Sprig.
And hopefully I'll get some other reviews written this week. Depending how long my motivation lasts, of course.
-
How's about I write an article cronicling my 24 hours writing poetry? Would that be Time-wasting worthy?
-
ya that would be Gemm, after all SE did one for 24 hours of RPGing.
-
Okay, I just submitted a review of March of the Penguins.
It's not very long, but I figure you can use it as filler when needed.
-
24 hours of RPing?
-
I'd do that.
I keep getting confused every time a northern-hemispherean says "summer"
-
Great - find me three others who'll do it and I'll run a Paranoia marathon 24 hours in the holidays.
-
The three others could be tricky.
-
WEAK
-
Them, not me.
-
yeah, 24 hrs of RPing. (http://www.timewastersguide.com/view.php?id=275)
-
I'd just like to point out that my original comment was "RPGing" not "RPing" as some would lead you to believe.
-
yeah, but RPing makes more sense than RPGing.
-
how about RIPing?
-
wouldn't it be R-ing IP?
-
Just submitted a review of Starmada:X
-
Jam Sesh 7 is in.
-
I just submitted a review of Green Ronin's Noir for M&M. I figured it can be used to fill a gap somewhere.
-
Just put in a review of "The Great Raid" by Paul Gibbs
Post when ready.
-
Today's article is (obviously) late. I'm filling in as a guest session man for Jam today, and I know what I'm writing on. However, what was supposed to be a task that would take me maybe one hour turned out to be something I've been working on solid for the last 8 hours (with only one stop to pee and one to heat lunch while I worked). Thus, I promise it will be up before midnight eastern. But I'm going home right now.
-
You could just put up the movie review from Paul Gibbs.
-
DVD Review of the Extended edition Gladiator by the Brothers Gibbs is waiting for your convenience.
Incidentally, I think it's time we gave these boys a spot in the "Our Staff" section. If I got them to write up a bio would you put it up there?
-
maybe, if you'll notice our staff sectoin hasn't been updated since before you went to afganistan. Currently only Tage can update it so you have to get his attention.
-
I've submitted a review of Order of the Stick, cause we haven't had a web-comic review in forever.
Edit and post at your leisure.
-
I think, ideally, the bio should just state the name, role that person plays, and a link to their forum profile. Then the profile should have a bio section (just a text area). That way, we can update our own bios. Just a thought.
And sorry for flaking yesterday. No excuse whatsoever.
However, I did push back the zerg incursion, in case you were wondering.
-
'nother review by the Gibbs Brothers is up.
It's about "Valiant," the pigeon film.
Bit more urgency with this one since it opened on Friday.
-
How's wednesday work for you?
-
Skar, can you do me the hugest favor in the world? Instead of putting film titles in quotes, can you put <em></em> tags around them? That would make my job so much easier.
-
Sure.
On another note. I was trying to experiment with the formatting of an article the Gibbs brothers submitted and so I saved it, hoping to view it and see what it looked like, but it disappeared. I think I forgot to classify it as a movie. If you could please change it so that I could see it again, I'll finish editing it. Please?
-
yeah, I'll fix it up right now.
done.
However, to change the dept, I have to approve the article. So it's approved, but admin only. Go to the movie section and you'll see it there. let me know if not
-
odd I can change an artile without approveing it. There is an edit only option from the admin page.
-
Got it, thanks.
-
Ok. The Bond article is edited and ready to go up at your convenience.
If you're thinking about putting it up on Monday (which was N/A last time I looked) perhaps you could switch it with the gladiator review. Making Gladiator on Monday and the bond article on Wednesday. hmmmmm?
-
That's doable. We really need to fix your access so you can just add to the admin blurb.
-
odd I can change an artile without approveing it. There is an edit only option from the admin page.
Yeah, but if I do that, I can't change what category it's in. I can change everything else, but not that.
-
So I just finished Mere Christianity and I want to know if we're liberal enough in what we post that I could get away writing a review for it.
Whaddya say?
-
What's liberal about CS Lewis?
Anyway we're just a review site, our only criteria is the review has to be PG in nature and decently written.
-
I think he means liberal as in "we'll let you post whatever you want" rather than liberal as in "political leanings."
-
The Gibbs Brothers have submitted a review of "The Brothers Grimm" It's in the queue ready to go.
-
And another one. The Gibbs' review of Warm Springs is a little less time-sensitive than The Brothers Grimm But it's in the queue and ready to go.
-
They've been busy little movie reviewers.
-
Just posted a review of Mere Christianity Feel free to post it, or give me suggestions on how it could be better, as its my first review. I tried to follow the general TWG format I've seen.
In addition, feel free to post a short bio, or I could come up with one if desired.
-
I would desire you to come up with one. Post it here and I'll paste it in.
-
"Jade Knight is an aspiring writer, editor, and/or Anthropologist who splits his time between Nevada, Utah, and his fiancée in Montréal."
That's about all I could come up with.
-
There's a review of "The Constant Gardener" up in admins only. This is a time sensitive one, worthy of a double post I think.
-
There's a review of "The Constant Gardener" up in admins only. This is a time sensitive one, worthy of a double post I think.
-
Constant Gardener just came out in theaters. Well, it has been in theaters for exactly one week.
So I think what Skar is getting at is that the review needs to go up today or tomorrow.
-
yeah, well, I think I was posting an article when he posted that before. And I missed it.
-
I'm writing a review for Axis and Allies: Miniatures. The game is being released on September 18th -- it would be nice if the article could be posted on the same day.
-
The 18th is a Sunday Mustard, the game is actually being released the Friday before on the 16th.
If you have it in by Friday then it'll go up.
-
Are you questioning me, Spriggan? I'm never wrong.
But, just because I like to show mercy to those who are my intellectual inferiors, I'll have the article ready for the 16th.
-
Thank you Fell.
-
The pleasure is all mine.
Robo Rally review is in.
-
When's the A&A review getting posted? Seriously, people. I only write once a year -- you'd think I'd get a little more prompt reception.
-
what is this "prompt" you speak of?
-
I demand respect! And sushi served on the bare bellies of supermodels.
-
How does disappointment feel?
-
I've submitted two more reviews in the past two days. Do I get sushi too?
-
you, likewise, get a heaping platter of steamy, fresh disappointment.
-
I demand respect! And sushi served on the bare bellies of supermodels.
That's dangerous. You could be poisoned by her toenail polish.
-
If she's the kind of supermodel who puts toenail polish on her belly, we have more problems than one.
-
As intriguing as nail-polished bellies is, there are bigger fish to fry: I forgot to add a bio on that article. Should I post it here or email it to you?
-
post it here. email involves changing windows.
-
House of Mustard (aka Robison E. Wells) is the author of two published humor novels. He graduated in Political Science and History from the University of Utah and currently works as a structural designer in scenic Salt Lake City, Utah. Visit his website here.
You'll have to add in the link. Thanks. You are, as they say, the bomb.
-
What's a structural designer, out of curiosity?
-
Either a civil engneer or architect.
-
I do structural engineering, except I don't have an engineering degree. So, smaller pay and a different title.
-
Dang it!
I posted another review to Video Games instead of Movies.
The Brothers Gibbs reviewed Corpse Bride. I think it's ready to go but I haven't previewed it because I don't have access to any section but Movies.
Please put it up ASAP since it came out this weekend. Thanks
-
YEah, I'll do it today. It gives me an excuse to put off writing a review of Arcana Unearthed for another day.
-
Cool. Thanks.
And the second review from over the weekend is of Flightplan and is waiting in the queue.
-
Oh, and one more thing. The Gibbs brothers say they will be reviewing Serenity this Tuesday, probably the blogger screening. We should plan on having the review by Wednesday and posting it on Friday.
Workable?
-
I'm seeing it tonight, and was going to review it tomorrow, but since I'm lazy, maybe I'll let them do it. I don't want to run three reviews in a row.
So yeah, I'll do Arcana Unearthed tomorrow, and the Gibb's review of Serenity on Wednesday.
Of course, anyone who has a review can still submit it. If it's not essentially the same as the Gibbs', we'll still run it.
-
I don't mind running lots of movie reviews in a row, as long as we double up with game reviews and articles as much as possible.
-
Sorry for the double post, but I just read the review. You know I hate 6 clock reviews, and you know that movie reviewers are much more prone to give them than anyone else (because they're accustomed to the 4-star system, I assume). This does not read like a 6-clock review to me, though I'd accept 5.5. Would it be possible to alter the score or, if you prefer, alter the review to justify the score?

No, no. Run the Flightplan review on Wednesday, the Serenity review should go up on Friday.

No prob. I'll change the score to 5.5. I'll let the Gibbs' know.
-
I hate to sound like a pig about it, but I'm a stickler and that's what we do: we stickle things.
-
it's understandable extreme scores should be held to slightly higher standard then middle/average scores.
-
Do you stickle with a sickle? while eating pickles?
And, yeah, I don't have a problem with the PRINCIPLE of running reviews from the same department, unless I'm not sure we'll have anything after the week is over. So I try to spread it out and give variety.
-
e,
the gibbs brothers have accepted the new clock rating and I've made the change. They've also pointed out that the actuall credits of the film bill it as "Tim Burton's Corpse Bride" which I changed to "The Corpse Bride" in ignorance so if you could please change the front page blurb to say "Tim Burton's Corpse Bride" I'd be appreciative.
Thanks
-
And yet another thing from the movie department. It would be great if we could get a frontpage blurb up with this picture
<img src="http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y47/TWGuide/SER_Intl.jpg" alt="Image hosted by Photobucket.com">
and this text
"Joss Whedon, the Oscar® - and Emmy - nominated writer/director responsible for the worldwide television phenomena of BUFFY THE VAMPIRE, ANGEL and FIREFLY, now applies his trademark compassion and wit to a small band of galactic outcasts 500 years in the future in his feature film directorial debut, Serenity. The film centers around Captain Malcolm Reynolds, a hardened veteran (on the losing side) of a galactic civil war, who now ekes out a living pulling off small crimes and transport-for-hire aboard his ship, Serenity. He leads a small, eclectic crew who are the closest thing he has left to family –squabbling, insubordinate and undyingly loyal."
underneath it.
The pic should link here:http://www.serenitymovie.com/
Since this is just free advertising for a franchise I really like, feel free to refuse but I think it would be cool and right on for our demographic to put this up. Incidentally, if anyone wants other marketing pics for the film I've got lloads.
-
(almost) anything to make you appreciative, awesome ally.
also, I'm going to tone down the blurb, but I'll put a notice up.
-
gracias
-
Fell and I came up with an alternate plan to make it look like a news item with one of my standard blurbs on the front page. You can give it your loving if you wish.
I had to resize the image, it was way too big to fit into the standard screen.
-
That looks great. I thought I had resized it already down to 400px wide but oh well. Hope it wasn't too much trouble.
Thanks again.
-
Ok. The Brother's Gibbs review of Serenity is in the queue. Since they got in on a blogger pass I imagine the movie people are trying for internent buzz so I don't think it'll hurt anything to put the review up now. As in today, yay!
-
wow another 6 from them, probably going to actually have the editors read it though I have no doubt they liked it that much.
-
I'll read it, but it had better be frickin' Citizen Kane.
-
Jeffe told me he thought it was the second best scifi film. Ever. SO perhaps it's justified. we'll check it out. Skar, you want flightplan or Serenity to run today? We're short on articles so I want to stick to one a day until we're ahead again.
-
What's the first?
-
I didn't ask.
-
No sidequest related EXP for you.
-
Personally, I suggest posting Flightplan today. It was #1 at the box-office this past weekend, so I think we should ride its popularity until Serenity crushes it.
I would run Serenity either tomorrow or friday so it's closer to its opening date.
We could move the AU/UA comparison to the start of next week. It would make the three articles appear a little like a weekly feature.
-
I think we should also post a counter review to Serenity by someone who hasn't seen it yet but has decided it deserves a 0 score.
Tag line: "A Josh Whedon movie with out Paul Ruben or Jason Prestly!?! You know this has to be bad."
-
I think Flightplan today is a good idea, Serenity on Thursday.
Sprig, you write it. I think it would be amusing to post it same day.
-
We could move the AU/UA comparison to the start of next week. It would make the three articles appear a little like a weekly feature.
Yeah, well, give me something to run on the day we don't do one of the movies and I'll put it off till next week. The problem is that monday next week is page 33, and tuesday is Fog of War. Thus Wednesday is the first open day next week, so it ruins that. I think we'll go with the original plan, flightplan today, comparison tomorrow, serenity friday. Then two columns to start next week out. Unless Sprig manages to forget homework and do pro bono work for us, then I'll move stuff around again
-
After reading the review and talking to Skar, I've decided to allow the 6 clock review--that sounds imperious, but my allowance of such is directly stated in the submission guidelines. Serenity is marketed by, to, and for the fans of the TV show, and it is understandable that such fans would find it to be incredible and wonderful and so on. Given the subjectivity inherent to the review process, and Skar excellent philibustering, Serenity is a 6-clock review.
-
Yes but I've heard the plot of Serenity 2 is Sam Jackson on a spaceship with deadly snakes.
-
SNAKES ON A PLANE!
I have SO got to see that movie.
-
So, no article today?
-
what? DANG
sorry, I was flaky. I had actual work to do.
-
Serenity simply must go up today. If e's too busy, something I have great sympathy and understanding for, will Fell or someone else please take care of it?
-
/me points at the front page
I wasn't too busy yesterday, so you don't have to be understanding. I *was* doing TWG stuff, just not posting articles. Sorry, but I have no excuse.
-
Guess what guys--I think I might have a book review for you this week, possibly even today. It's not the D&D one (I haven't finished it or had a chance to implement it), just one of the many YA fantasy novels I read, but I have to start somewhere.
Hopefully by letting you know I am working on it that will commit me to finishing it. You can poke me a little if you want. I've been studying old book reviews to get a feel for how it's done. So, yay!
-
Okay, I finished my first book review. Yay! ;D
I started with something that wasn't too challenging--a book that I liked, but wasn't too difficult to review.
So I submitted it, but I don't know if I did it right. I copied and pasted the text from my Word document, but I know that causes problems sometimes. And I don't know if I'm supposed to format it in html or you guys take care of that. Let me know if I need to re-submit it or send it to you in some other way. Thanks!
-
looks like you formated it right, we just have to add in the HTML code so it displays the same way you typed it.
If you can code in the html it would be appreciated in future articles, no need to worry about this one though.
It's also nice to have all these non-movie reviews for next week considering how many we had last week.
-
Thanks for putting in the html.
It was fun to do this. I may even have another one for you during this week.
And I'm going to keep reading the D&D book. Maybe when stacer comes in October we can have a D&D game going during the get-together and I can "try out" the book's teachings. :)
-
Today's column has been sent to Fell. I haven't heard back from him yet.
-
He's probably waiting for you to forget so he can take credit for writing it.
-
Well, my new article is finished. I've decided to call my column "The Fog of War," and ramble on about whatever fool thing comes into my head. I hope you all enjoy it.
-
That sounds rad to the max! I wish I'd thought of it.
-
HoM will suffer endless pain and torment for saying 'rad to the max'.
And that column sounds like a retarded way to whinge about how bad you are at Civ3. :o
-
Why you gotta bust my flavah?
-
Flav!
-
Um...not to be a pest or anything...but I wondered if and when my book review was going to go up?
I actually am applying for an internship with the Church Magazines on Friday, and I am including the Book Review in my portfolio and was kind of hoping to have the website address so they could see my name in Internet print!
Besides, I'm really excited to see my name in Internet print!
Is there anything I need to do to get it up?
-
What did you review? I could tell you when it's scheduled for, though you'll have to beg E to change the date if it's not soon enough.
Dragon's Bait is scheduled for posting tomorrow (if that's it).
Unrelated, I'm currently reading HP4, and I could do a review of it if people think it'd be worthwhile. I wont bother if you guys don't care, however.
-
Yes, it is Dragon's Bait. Thanks. ;D
-
Patrick Gibbs turned in a review of "A History of Violence"
It's in the queue.
As always, sooner is better with movies still in the theaters but this one's been out almost a week so just use it to fill in as soon as you can.
-
the schedule is known in advance to admins. However, since I didn't read this thread till after I posted it, know that it is now posted.
-
I used the sumbit article link for four reviews (magic of incarnum, stormwrack, weapons of legacy, lords of madness), fyi.
-
Proofread Serenity RPG.
I'm not entirely sure what Proofreading is supposed to entail, so some of the work I consider "editing" I didn't do (such as rephrasing casual speech patterns which may or may not be appropriate in a professional review).
I'm also unsure if I'm supposed to expand contractions, or if we don't care. (Personally, I generally don't care, but I don't know how conservative we are grammatically, here. By we, I mean the editors).
-
I used the sumbit article link for four reviews (magic of incarnum, stormwrack, weapons of legacy, lords of madness), fyi.
Ya, you've been busy. We could actually do an Eagle Prince theme week now by just running those reviews plus a new SUSQ.
-
Lords of madness! :)
I lurve that book.
-
E, could we please post the History of Violence review today?
-
Well today is a Holiday since it's Columbus day and SE isn't around to post anything, but I could probably bug Fell to post it.
-
Pretty please.
-
Fell! ??? :'(
-
Jade, casual speech and contractions are fine. We use them quite a bit on the site.
Skar, sorry, after the youth temple trip yesterday I started on what's looking to be a 2 day anxiety attack. I promise I will get it up in the next hour or so, but I didn't even look at the computer yesterday except to play a game of Worms World Party.
-
I was very busy yesterday, Skar, and what little time I had to waste was spent trying to figure out which parade Ferris Bueller sang in (answer: the Von Steuben parade in Chicago). Sorry it didn't get posted.
-
No Prob.
Skar desultorily launches a Nuclear Missile
-
Is there a separate place to find approved articles and non-approved articles, out of curiosity?
I only see one link: "Articles Waiting"
-
the "admin" link. Then click on "recently approved articles"
