I'm happy that Brenna is becoming more alert and fun every day. Also, I'm happy that she likes her dragon doll.

Everything Else / Re: article: Little Girls

Well, I mostly commented in the first place because of this:

"Right now the dozen or so regulars on TWG who are girls are planning how they'll object in the forum thread for this article. This is a good thing, as it increases our page hit counts. "

In other words, I was trying to be funny.

And at any rate, as I read it the article didn't say that geekiness itself was learned, just that "action" type stuff, and roleplaying, etc. was a learned behavior. After all, pretending to be a princess or liking magic girl anime is still fantasy.

I chose to do roleplaying on my own, though--my mom's still convinced that roleplaying is evil, in fact.  And though I had a wide range of books to choose from, both mainstream and genre, my favorites for a long time tended toward the post-apocalyptic and the military sci-fi.  So there. :P

I'm grumpy because I'm sick. Sick enough to not make it down to Provo while Stacer is here. Also, Brenna is sick and she's too little for normal cold remedies. I hate seeing my poor little baby hurting. Grumble.

I don't think liking role playing and action fantasy/ sci-fi is a learned behavior for girls, so there.  :P

My sisters and I often played make believe when we were little. My youngest sister was always a gypsy girl, my other sister was a runaway princess, and I was a reformed assassin (I had all the cool fighting/killing skills without the moral issues that way, I guess) who owned an inn that was always used as the base of operations.

I think the first movie my mom took me to was a Star Wars movie, though. :)

I think it just helps to have both parents like gaming and speculative fiction.  Brenna's been inundated with such things since birth, after all.  She's been to three movies in the theater--the newest Harry Potter, Chronicles of Narnia, and King Kong.  Her favorite toy to chew on is a little green plush dragon with a rattle inside.

One of her favorite activities is actually sitting on Chris's lap as he plays World of Warcraft. She likes when he jumps or kills monsters. :)

Granted, she's not even four months old yet, so she may turn into a sparkly princess type yet, but I was always more interested in fighting bad guys when I was little...

Oh, and I liked your article. 'Twas a fun read! Good luck on bringing your children over to the geeky side.  :D

MsFish is an awesome friend. Also, she's very helpful in encouraging me to branch out to colors other than black and blue!

Actually, if you're drinking ginger ale that actually has real ginger in it, it really can make you feel better more than psychologically--ginger reduces nausea. Interesting, yes?

I don't know that I have a permanent aversion to Ginger Ale.  Growing up, we only drank ginger ale when we were sick, and it was a good thing, a drink that always made us feel better. So I associated ginger ale with getting better.

Then, when I became pregnant, ginger ale and vanilla ice cream were the only two things that would reduce nausea. I drank a LOT of ginger ale...and now I don't like looking at it, even when I'm sick. Which is interesting, because it did make me feel better--it's probably just the excessive amounts I drank.

Hopefully, I'll get over the "ack! Not ginger ale! thing before I need it again..." but I've got a while, so who knows. :)

All my food adversions occured during pregnancy. I couldn't even look at chocolate, especially mint chocolate (my favorite)  for very long without feeling ill for about five months or so (A horrific thing, since I'm a chocoholic, normally...). Happily for my emotional state (but not for my waistline), I can again eat chocolate with impunity. :)

I don't think it's awful at all. I like it! Especially the failing the wisdom check line. :)

Although, if you do decide to try quilting, sewing three sides of your quilt, and then standing inside it with the batting while your husband helps you pin it in place from the outside before sewing it all up for the final bit is apparently not the best way to go about things.  :P  Not that I know this from personal experience, or anything...

I'm happy because last night was the first night that Brenna not only slept through the night, but she slept in her crib the whole time! ;D

That's really interesting, SE, because I've had the opposite experience--bad experiences from dating right away, good from being friends first. Chris and I were very much friends first.

Really, everybody else realized that we were both interested in each other way before we did. And May 1st will be our 4th anniversary, so it's gone very well so far for us. :)

So as a successfully married woman :P, I'd say that successful relationships can start in many different ways, so I really couldn't recommend one way over another--I think it depends upon the personalities of the people involved more than anything else.

That policy is still the same, Ookla. At least as of several months ago. :)
