One week from today. These tickets are burning a hole in my pocket.
-
awesome. Me and my friends should get out tickets for opening early morning.
-
I'll probably see it at some point during the next month.
(I keep telling my husband, "But I already know what happens!" Muhahaha)
-
If you don't already have opening day tickets, Gemm, be warned that they might be very hard to come by. Only one local theater had any left, and we've got several big theaters.
-
Well the theater me and my friends go to usually isn't that bad. There was one movie it was really bad like that. Episode 2 of Star Wars. That was the only time there was a magnaumous amount of people.
-
I'd say that RotK will have analogous crowds to SW2. In fact, LotR is probably more popular now than SW
Though tickets aren't THAT hard to come by. I just bought mine last night. But then, the DC has more than 2 theaters within a 15 mile radius, unlike Provo.
I can't do midnight again, to get the first showing of the country like I did with TTT. Not because I couldn't get tickets, but because I'm old.
I mean, because last year my work shift didn't start till noon, so getting home at 4am wasnt' so big a deal. However, to get to work on time now, I have to wake up at 6, which makes that sort of activity on a week night sort of a pain.
-
Actually, the Provo/Utah County Area has had three new theaters open up in the past year. All of the theaters are sold out for RotK through the weekend.
-
And if rottentomatoes is to be believed, RotK is going to be incredible. Even people who disliked the first two, like Ebert, are raving about RotK.
-
Uh, just a question, Fell. How good a theater is this one you have tickets for?
-
It's the worst one I could find. I really tried to get one with no sound whatsoever, but there aren't any like that apparently, so I just hired a guy to sit behind us and talk through the whole thing.
-
EUOL, do you pay him to be funny or something?
-
lol. I just mentioned the city, and two of my roomates said the only theater they knew of in that city was...uh, well, one called it "A slightly-cleaner Movies Eight."
-
Mañana, folks. (But who's counting?)
-
ME!
-
The theater looks very nice, and I've heard very good things about it from some pretty discerning movie-goers. And their sound system is brand new.
-
Woot, less than 12 hours to go. For me! Hahahh! I'll be in the theater what, 3 hours before some of you! haha!
-
And their sound system is brand new.
Ah, good. That was mostly what I was worried about. No stadium seating, I suppose, but I guess we can work around that.
-
And hows that EUOL? Sitting on top of other people?
-
Well, we saw Return of the King last night, and all I can say is...
"DAYUM!!!"
Not only is it longer than the other two, but it is more detailed, richer in every way, and just a work of art for any fantasy fan. It finally washed away the bad taste left by the Dungeons & Dragons movie. This is definitely the movie of the year. I could go on and on about it, but since some of you will not be able to see it until Wednesday, I will keep mum.
Just..... please...... SEE THIS MOVIE!!!!
-
/me stabs slant repeatedly
I WILL! Just shut up about it! it's not fair!
-
Is your wife opposed to going to see that movie with you?
-
no.
I mean, yes, she doesn't want to go see it, for various reasons she'll wait till it's on DVD. But that's not my point.
It's not fair that he already saw it. I hates him. Hates him for he's seen the precious.
-
So when is everybody planning on seeing RotK?
I'm planning on waiting until after my Christmas break (because my parents will probably have already seen it by the time we get there).
-
I'm gonna see it tomorrow. With FotR I saw it twice opening day, cuz the wife was out of town and I was by myself.
With TTT I saw it opening showing, midnight, etc. But at that time I didn't start work till noon, so it wasn't a big deal. Now I have to be at work by 8, so getting home at 4, then waking up 2 hours later doesn't sound like fun.
So I'll see it tomorrow night. 10 bucks a pop, but it's alright. Definitely worth it.
-
Izzy: Us too. We did the same thing with Two Towers last Christmas. So we'll probably just pop over to Mansfield for an afternoon showing that hopefully isn't too crowded. I do NOT want to go all the way down to Columbus again this year. Easton is so crowded.
-
/me stabs slant repeatedly
I WILL! Just shut up about it! it's not fair!
Saint, that post really freaked me out, because that sounds a exactly like me last Christmas.
-
I'm seeing it on boxing day. I am getting TTT extended on DVD for christmas, and already have fellowship extended on DVD. So i guess i will watch FOTR on christmas eve, TTT on christmas day, and ROTK on boxing day. :D
-
Chris and I are going tomorrow morning, and then I'm going again on Thursday with a friend of mine. Should be lots of fun. :)
-
I admire your fortitude, even though I don't understand it--seeing this movie any later than opening day would drive me bananas. Wednesday, 7:00pm.
-
Im seeing it at our leadership meeting on friday at work, we still havent worked out if we're going in uniform or not....
I was reading where P. Jackson cut over an hour and 40 minutes from this one. Now thats a heck of an Extended DVD :)
-
Especially since the movie is 3 hrs 45 minutes. I think all the others stayed closer to the 3 hr mark in the theater release, didn't they?
I was sorely tempted to go to the midnight showing tonight, but I have 3 papers due tomorrow (3 papers, 3 pgs each, all for the same class) and have to defend these papers in class tomorrow, so I figured it might not be the best time to stay up all night--or if I did stay up all night, I'd better be working on those papers. Sooo tiiiirrrrreddd.... But either tomorrow night or Thursday night for me, if there are still tickets to be gotten. I haven't been able to think beyond this semester yet.
-
Eric: thanks for the compliment. I think part of it is that we're not sure how we're going to pay rent in January and so add finals to that and movies are not exactly the first thing on my mind these days.
If we wait til Christmas break, our parents will buy us tickets.
-
I think you mean Dan. Just goes to show that those icons really are confusing.
-
ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I want to be in the theater NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
I know what you mean.
Less than 11 hours now... I just need to make it through this shift, then stops at Subway and the comic shop to spend birthday money.
-
I had a dream last afternoon (remeber I work nights) about seeing the movie. All I can tell you is it's a hack job. I mean when you find out that Sarun is realy Aragon's father and Eowin is his sister that's just not right.
-
I want to go and get one of the one ring replicas and wear it in place of my wedding band,... I wonder if my wife would notice?
-
we need a new title for you, Jeffe: Deathwish Squirellkeeper
-
/me clutches the one ring while making noises in the back of his throat
"My Precious, ... lets go watch the movie together..... Gollum, Gollum, GOLLUM these dang allergy pills arnt working!!!"
-
I think you mean Dan. Just goes to show that those icons really are confusing.
I'm pretty sure she's doing it on purpose.
-
Yes, it's a vast right-wing conspiracy. Wait, I'm not right-wing
It's a vast politically unaffiliated conspiracy. I'll post something, then, when someone is about to reply to it, we'll delete mine and Fell will post. It's been delightful fun, but now that you've caught on, we'll have to stop.
-
Actually I didn't do it on purpose. It's just that Eric posts about twice as much as Dan, so I have just come to associate their icon with Eric.
Look, I'll stop harassing you about the icons when all you rabid fans stop harassing me about not seeing the movie on opening week. I don't deserve to be persecuted for this.
-
MMmmmm, it was so good. Like eating a really good piece of snow caught on your tongue. Someone make with the spoiling thread so we can talk about its greatness.
-
sorry, still got 5.5 hours left till I see it. Have to finish my shift then wait for the next showing.
-
It was soo well done. Like having a really good cut of beef tenderloin. I feel all whole and complete now.
-
I'll back you up Fuzzy. My husband and I probably won't see it until beginning of January.
-
same
-
Sprig, you could of seen it today if you hadn't been so socially uncomfortable that you couldn't answer another person's phone even after it's been ringing for over three minutes.
You know Sprig, there is a small possibility I will mock you endlessly for this.
-
There's a large possibility that I will mock him for it, despite not knowing the details of the story.
-
Yes, but will you mock him endlessly?
-
I'll just add it to my current mocking, which is already endless.
-
The reason I don't answer it is becasue no one calls me at that number. Why? because as you said if I use the phone then I have to pay for it.
-
Sprig, you can answer the phone. If you make calls from it then we will charge you. It doesn't cost us anything to answer the phone.
However, I one the bet with my cousins who are amazed at you fear of phones. I explained that EUOL has the same phobia so I think it is genetic.
I can now rest assured that no matter how immenent an emergency I might be in, Spriggan will not answer the phone.
-
It's not a fear of phones 42, it's a loathing, seathing hate of them. There's a difference.
-
Phones are rude and annoying. Like a spoiled child, discontent and insistent that he be paid attention to now, phone callers presume that whatever you're doing, it is unimportant enough to be interrupted immediately by the caller.
It's not a personal thing--everyone uses phones, they're a necessity of our society. I answer mine politely for this reason. However, I still regard them as a necessary evil.
And no, I wouldn't answer another person's phone, even if it rang three times in a row.
-
I'm with you on that, EUOL. I don't even feel comfortable answering the phone at my in-laws' house.
-
That's amusing, because I'll answer someone else's phone in a heartbeat, just out of curiousity.
What on EARTH happened to the original topic of this thread?
-
The phone rang for three minutes. And most people would answer a phone if it rang that long out of sheer politeness, if only to tell the person to quit calling.
And phones are not a mere object. They are a means of connecting with other people and to strengthen social bonds. Phones require consideration and owners who are considerate of others and do not selfishly value their own time above the needs of others.
So do I accept your excuses. No. You Sandersons must learn to overcome your hatred (which stems from FEAR) of the common telephone. Considered yourselves chastised you selfish, anti-social pigs! I will be reporting you to Miss Manners.
-
Hum. I dislike answering other peoples phones due to shyness and a feeling that its not my damn business. And my own phone annoys me - its generally some idiot calling for my dad. Uhm, yeah, he out of the house from 8 until 8, assuming he isnt in aberdeen or america or some insanity. Not like hes gonna be here at 1pm. I keep in touch with people via MSN.
-
Tage, what is sveldt supposed to mean? Do you possibly mean svelte?
-
if I'm not mistaken it's german
-
See Entropy, you have a self-esteem issue. Of course you can answer the phone when it rings. It is your business. Don't be affraid of oppurtunity. You matter to the person calling, even they don't specifically mean to talk to you. You answered the phone which makes you as glorious and divine as the person they ment to talk to. So don't sell youself short, answer the phone.
-
You are mistaken, Sprig.
It's absolutely ridiculous to me that I've had that stupid tagline for over TWO YEARS and no one has ever bothered to point out that it's spelled wrong. Thank you, fuzzy.
-
No problem. I had to look it up to be sure, if that makes you feel any better.
And no one said anything 'cause they probably all thought it was German too. ;D
-
I wanna say Nordic. Or maybe its Gondorian, maybe even Orcish. Who knows.
-
Which brings us full circle to the original subject, about which I must crow: Finally! I'm seeing it tonight! My paycheck finally came (a week late, don't you love the mail system--don't have direct deposit for temps here), so I can afford the ticket. It's the 10:30 showing, and I'll be out so late the T will have stopped running, but I think there's a bus. :D The T doesn't stay up very late on the weekends. >:( But I shall be able to join the spoilers discussion tomorrow! Yay!
-
Why not go to the midnight show, and maybe the buses will be out and about by the time you get done? =P
-
I don't know if this link will work, but today's Fox Trot was hilarious.
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/uclickcomics/20031219/cx_ft_uc/ft20031219
It's a whole thread.
-
That's awesome.
-
The Return of the king is great! I already seen it four times. And I am also going to see it on the 25th, 26th, and the 27th. ;D
-
For those of you who don't know (which should be pretty much everyone) Moriosta is my little sister. Be nice!
-
I'll try to be good
I'm hoping to catch a matinee of it tomorrow. All depends on if they let me out early like Gary says they will.
-
Dun dun, dun, dun! Gary!
-
Welcome, EUOL's little sister!
Good flick, huh?
-
If anymore sandersons appear we might have to start taking action to prevent them from taking over. There is only so many typos i can take :P
-
Thanks ! :) Yeah i really liked the movie ;D!
-
The kid is insane. She's seen the movie five times now, I think--and she already has tickets to see it two more times. I don't think I've seen any one movie seven times, let alone seven times in the theater.
-
Smart kid!
-
Saw it today, the day of release in Australia! Because it was teh pwnX0rs, on Sunday I'm going to see a Movie Marathon with all three LOTR movies in a row. 9 pm to 6:30 AM. Nine hours of LOTR, baby!
-
:o Your insane. Your arse will lose its shape and become as a bit of attached jelly. You'll miss the good bits while going to the toilet!
-
my in-laws are like that. I think the only thing the do is see movies. They latch on to one they like and the entire family is supposed to be worked up about it and think only of it. They have all already seen RotK twice. I think they saw Priates 5 times in the theater.
Remember, this is a family of 10 people. I think they're keeping certain movies alive single handedly.
-
You know i really wanted to do the all three movies in a row thing. But in Idaho they are not going to do that. :'(
-
that's what DVDs and buying tickets in advance are for
-
Yeah, you are right. I just bought two more tickets today! I already seen it seven times! ::)
-
Who is this Moriosta again?
-
I am EUOL and spring's little sister ;D
-
AHhh, thats right.
-
yeah its cool :)
-
As of right now I *Should* be in the movie marathon.
I was assured a day ago that there would be plenty of tickets available, and told I should just arrive on the day.
Except they were sold out.
They will *want* to play another marathon. They will *want* to give me a free ticket to it.
They will *want* to do this, otherwise they will have made an enemy they do not *want* to have. I know hopw bad word of mouth and bad publicity can work...
-
yeah. That's right.
anyway, i blame you for listening to them. If there were advance ticket purchases ahead of time, you should have bought them anyway.
oh, and..
/me points and laughs at JP
-
I know what you mean JamElfadin. I could not get tickets for the first showing but Iwent anyway and got tickets for free. It was pretty cool.
-
Right, so I should try and get a lift to the other side of the city (about 20 kilometers) after being told that only a dozen people were likely to show up, and being told specifically I should just show up on the day? Petrol isn't cheap, y'know.
-
yes, yes you should have.
After all, you were trusting the judgement of a movie theater employee. Did you REALLY think only a dozen people would show up for something like that?
-
I am EUOL and spring's little sister ;D
Cool! Can call him Spring too?
-
Yeah that would be cool! ;D
-
Mwhahaha!! ;D
-
:D ;D
-
I have a question for the Tolkien aficionados out there: I'm looking for a more detailed account of the fall of Eriador (the northern kingdom.) I've read the Silmarillion, and the LotR books, but nothing else. Anyone know where I can find what I seek?
-
THere is a _huge_ collection of crap that his son released, an entire series of *things* of middle-earth - "peoples of middle-earth" etc. Try looking for a places one.
-
It's a clean sweep: Return of the King won every Oscar it was nominated for, putting it at 11 and tying it with Ben Hur and Titanic for the most Oscars won by a movie. Huzzah!
-
It's also the first ever fantasy film to win best picture. It also now holds the record for sweeping the most awards (winning every award it was nominated). The previous number nine.
Also, the film has passed the 1 billion money maker mark, being just behind Titanic. However, RotK reached that number sooner that Titanic so it may pass it up yet.
My favorite remarks was Billy Crystal's half-way through the ceremony: "It is now official. There is nobody in New Zealand left to thank."
-
And that was the reason I didn't bother watching the rest of the Oscars, I knew it was going to win the majority of it's awards. Kinda takes the excitement out of it. But yea to Peter Jackson none the less.
-
I think my favorite moment was when the foriegn film winners said how relieved they were that Lord of the Rings wasn't eligible for their category.
-
Ever trying to force my kids into liking fantasy, I showed all the closing bits of RotK to my kids. The grey Havens threw Elizabeth into tears. Inconsolable. *sigh*
Ok, that would gets put on the shelf. *sigh*
-
Maybe you just need to show your kids a lot of depressing "based-on-a-real-event." Then they might learn to appreciate fantasy/science fiction more.
-
And I showed my 6-year-old Sam and Frodo with Shelob, and he thought that was the *coolest.*
-
Whenever I show my son (22 months) a picture of the first vision, he insists it's Heavenly Father, Jesus, and Frodo. Who knows where that came from.
-
Frodo lives! ;D
-
Whenever I show my son (22 months) a picture of the first vision, he insists it's Heavenly Father, Jesus, and Frodo. Who knows where that came from.
By now you kids doing things like this dosen't suprise many of us Fell, we know they're as strange as you.
-
on a humorous note, Elizabeth, upon seeing Legolas for the first time, said, "Who's she?"
-
I said the same thing when I saw Orlando Bloom in Pirates of the Carribbean. What a dip.
It kills me that he's in so many action movies because he ruins them all. He's even going to ruin Kingdom of Heaven I don't doubt.
-
/me sets Skar on fire
He's not that bad.
-
Hah! You just think he's hot. The man can't act. No, I take that back. He can act like a dip and he does that very well. Stupid casting agents are who I should really be ticked at.
*Skar runs over and gives MoD a flaming hug.
-
part of it, however, is that he gets bad lines. "A diversion!"
-
And it's people like MoD and others that give him the benefit of the doubt. We should be crucifying him! Well... maybe not that, but crucifying his career.
-
I suspect that he only gets the benefit of the doubt because chicks think he's hot.
Of course, we males do the same thing, for example, with that Keira Knightley person.
Note: I don't, she stinks as an actress and I've never said anything else, but others on this board have...
-
/me blushes
Oh, thanks Skar.
Hah! I do think he's hot. But I still don't think he's that bad. Bad to me is . . . all of the acting (with the exception perhaps of Albert) in Batman and Robin.
Of course when the acting is universally bad, that's usually due to the director.
-
I really don't take what Skar says about movies/actors with a grain of salt. He's a movie critic and, as such, is full of himself and has to hate everything. If he was humble and liked things he wouldn't be a critic.
-
:D
-
I really don't take what Skar says about movies/actors with a grain of salt.
You take everything I say as the gospel truth?
(Assuming I've interpreted your contradictory gibberish correctly)
Are you being tongue in cheek or have you not read many of my reviews?
He's a movie critic and, as such, is full of himself and has to hate everything. If he was humble and liked things he wouldn't be a critic.
My arrogance easily keeps up with my age.
-
Assuming I've interpreted your contradictory gibberish correctly
Another sign of a critic, the urge to try and belittle those that poke fun of them. You're a classic case Skar, I think there's medication for your problem.
-
Are you offering to make me take my medicine? >:(
-
;)
-
Hehe. No, but I think 42 has plenty for all of us.
-
Hehe ;D
-
...goddamnit spriggan, your avatar makes me think your slant. Change it at once!
And I think Orlando bloom is decent - his characters in Black Hawk Down, Pirates and LoTR were all different (overeager kid, determined to the point of foolish hero, the calm hero who specialises in the meaningful glance) and I didn't feel that any were badly done or felt like him going through the motions.
And I freely admit gross bias on my part towards keira knightly, but she did a good job in Arthur.
-
Hey, wtf, the board changes 'God damn it' (no spaces) into 'd**nit'.
Thats weak and foolish! :P
Not to mention I just saw what spriggans subtitle is. Bah! I'll have you yet, nerdboy!
-
primarily that's bcause many of us find taking the Lord's name in vain to be extremely low class and offensive, Ent.
-
...extremely low class and offensive, Ent.
Just like SE's Avatar!
But kidding aside, I find it odd the filer gets the version without the spance and not the one with it, which is also a correct spelling (though slightly different meaning).
-
I find it odd the filer gets the version without the spance and not the one with it, which is also a correct spelling (though slightly different meaning).
I just played with it to make some corrections
goddamn
goddammit
god damn
- and it appears to work. I also added the abbreviation of "what the ...." which has bothered several of us in the past. Filters are fun!
-
See I have no problem with that abbreivation.
-
I thought it was only MoD, who posts irregularly, that has a problem with that?
-
I've had a problem with it, but then in my more rage-ful moments I've used it. I think it's because there's really not a way to interpret it other than as a very vulgar word.
-
Just because I don't post on a board, doesn't mean I didn't read it.
-
It just seems strange to blank out a extremely common netspeak term. That would be like TV stations blanking out 'like'.
-
no, entropy, it would not. It would be like TV stations blanking out a commonly used but vulgar term. Which... wait... they DO that!
-
An extremely common vulgar netspeak term. That's a little different than, like, like.
-
Shrug. It'll be fun to watch newcomers try and say it, see the filter, and leave muttering about censorship.
-
riiiiiiiiiight. Because direct personal abuse does such an effective job of sending them away that having a single acronym edited will drive them away in hoardes.
-
Yes, because I was so directly confrontational with mastershake. Oh wait... no I wasn't. You were more confrontational than I was.
And you underestimate how little tolerance people have for things being done in a way they disagree with. Most net - people I know would see wtf edited and immediately delete the bookmark.
-
calm down ent. I wasn't saying that you were directly confrontational with mastershake. I said that newbies are directly insulted, and they don't leave. That's it. Do you argue that?
it's a private location. it is not a public location. We have standards against language. We've had complaints about the usage before. The answer, then, is to edit it. I don't understand why that is so harsh.
People disagree with being insulted. Yes, they do. See any newbie's response to how we moderate. Yet they don't leave. I have to assume you don't know the average sort of person, because the behavior you're describing hasn't been happening. Are you just mad because you want to use that acronym and now can't on the forum? You've been edited before and didn't whine about it like this.
