Since Brandon got to 100% on the revision to The Gathering Storm, I've noticed that his progress bars have stopped moving. Now I don't expect him to keep working at the pace that he did for that last couple of weeks, but I did hope to see something change. Does anybody know what Brandon is up to now?
I've got a few guesses.
1) Taking a short break to recover from the big push to submit The Gathering Storm.
2) Doing another quick feedback/edit cycle with said book.
3) Trying to pick up the pieces of things he had to hack up to make a coherent story for TGS and weave them together for AMOL:2.
4) Working on some other project.
5) Some combination of the previous 4.
Anybody in the know want to comment?
-
I'm betting he's getting ready for JordonCon this week.
-
Takin' a flipping break, I should hope.
-
Brandon is twittering (http://twitter.com/BrandonSandrson).
Ham & rolls.
Anyway there isn't a progress bar up yet for what Brandon will be working on next. (He mentioned Way of Kings revisions in his Splitting AMOL article and there's a good bet he'll do that next while taking a break from AMOL so he doesn't get burned out.)
-
Whoa! Twittering cool! He's probally taking a break from AMoL. He's probally work hard these last months to get this book done.

# My 18 month old son likes to help Emily do the laundry. He 'helps' by sticking random things in. Including, we just found, Emily's phone.
Aww my daughter has done that to us as well.
-
The best thing to do when a phone is dead like that is to stick it in the oven at 250 without it's battery for about five minutes and then let it properly cool before you turn it on. It fixes it most of the time. (Besides, the phone is already broken, so why not try it.)
My mum fixed her and my little brother's phone that way. Worked like there had never been a problem.
-
how would heating up the phone fix it? I mean once the water is in there the damage is done isn't it?
-
The problem most people have is that they instantly turn their phone on after it gets wet. If you heat it up/let it dry out COMPLETELY . . . meaning you should take it as apart as you can without taking out screws and letting it dry for a few days, then turn it on, you are less apt to have problems.
-
using a hair dryer can help.
-
I never heard of sticking the phone in the oven to dry it off. That's so weird. I just let my electronics dry off.
-
I think Miyabi's advice is dependent on the assumption that the phone is powered off with it falls in the water.
An oven might bee a bit too much, 200+ degrees is sufficient to cause some silicon chips to superconduct and that would be bad, very bad. Not to mention that thermal plastics cure at 225 deg.
But a hair dryer can help, as long as it's not too hot for your bare skin.
-
Yeah that's the problem my phone is usually on 24/7.
-
In that case yank the batteries immediately after a dunking. Then follow above recipe and pray.
-
Nice!!!! I agree with Renoard on the oven. A little too much.
-
I dunno, though, the concept of a baked cell phone is pretty funny.
What're all those commercials that talk about "baked, not boiled"...
-
Pop'n'Phone by Pilsbury with the Kraft cheddar-tooth accessories.
-
I promise, it works. We got told that by someone from AT&T rep who does it himself. We've done it and it works. You can actually watch the steam come up off the phone.
-
Quick, someone get Kraft and Pilsbury on the line; obviously we have to start selling these.
We'll use the steam-from-phone as a promotional video!

I just saw this on Brandon's Twitter:
"At Jordancon. Loads of fun. I just played ALL of the Forsaken (the males at least) in a skit. Sometimes playing several Forsaken at once."
http://twitter.com/BrandonSandrson
Hopefully someone got a video of that. I would love to see it. :) Plus video or transcripts from any other interesting panel discussions. :)
-
That must have been interesting... wish I could have seen that.
-
Wonder if he let any spoilers slip out. . .
:D
-
Well he let out a quasi small spoiler in the 4th Age Podcast.

And are you going to tell us what it is? ;)

I'm pretty sure I saw a video camera or two set up during that, so someone should have it. Presumably the video will be for sale or posted online later, possibly both.
The skit was a lighthearted summary of most of the series with a number of jokes thrown in, all crammed into one hour, so Brandon got to fake dying a lot. The male Forsaken just do not have a good track record for survival. The Eye of the World battle was especially bad for that, as he had to die as Balthamel, get up and "die" as Ishamael/Ba'alzamon, and get back up and die a third time as Aginor all in rapid succession.
-
Wow that must have been exhausting for Brandon to do but would have been hilarious to see.
As for the spoiler:
Brandon said that there was one character that was basically ready for Tarmon Gaiden, in otherwords they had pretty much nothing they HAD to do get ready. Like Mat having to go get Moriane, Eggy in the WT, and so on. The reason I think it's really a spoiler is that it may lead to not seeing this character in the next book, maybe only even in the prologue.
Do you guys have a spoiler function here?
-
Many things were omitted from the skit, of course, there's only so much that will fit in just one hour, but Brandon did make quite a number of dives to the floor while making fake death noises. And yes, it was hilarious. For example, the Asmodean death scene was preceded by a "lesson in magic" where Brandon pulled out some Magic: The Gathering trading cards and started explaining a new combo to Jason Denzel of dragonmount.com, who played Rand. Jason then asked him about a Black Lotus Asmodean supposedly owed him and Brandon went looking for it, leading to the sudden "You!"+death. Sadly, no one played the role of his killer (Brandon just looked behind the projector screen) so we can't speculate about the possible meaning of that person playing some other role (or not playing any of the other roles included) with regard to Asmodean's killer.
Hmm, I'd guess Lan for the spoiler. Unless something unexpected turns up, all he has to do is get there and watch an army materialize around him on the way.
-
We had a spoiler function but it only hid the text from anyone who hadn't already posted in the thread. I believe it was eaten by the recent forum hacking. (The database was salvaged but the forum itself had to be restored to a backup from 2007(?).)
Wish I could be there! It sounds hilarious.
-
Oh my. Sounds like it was an ... interesting... show...
-
Interesting? Oh my. I'd pay money to watch it.
I was wondering if the person ready for Tairmon Gaidon was Perrin. It seems like a lot of his plot lines have been cleared up recently.
-
A lot of people did pay money to watch it.

Actually I've dropped two phones in the water that were on when they fell in and they turned off when they hit the water, probably because it shorted them or something.
-
I would also guess Lan. Perrin has to get Elayne's mom to Galad, reunite with Child Byar et al. and save Rand from women channelers one more time? borderlander BA??? and perhaps be of some help with the Seanchan.
-
*heh* Maybe I should tell you who it is. Since so far no one has correctly guesed I just wish I could hide it from those that don't want to know.
-
They could just go listen to the podcast. I think the reason no one is guessing the correct person is because no one wants to hear any more about the person. I don't ;)

I'd like to remind you guys that this is a thread about what Mr. Sanderson is up to, not a WoT theory thread. It's not marked as a SPOILER zone and I think your conversation is heading that direction. I don't personally care because I've read the series, but I know there are some here that haven't, so please respect that and take the conversation elsewhere.

Whoops! Sorry. Don't think too much has slipped yet.
-
I don't either, but it's best to catch it before rather than after it's too late, haha. I've had MB3 stuff spoiled for me from some careless comments and it was a real letdown (I haven't read it yet still, because I'm a college student and hardcovers are a premium, haha... but the paperback comes out real soon, YAY!), so I'm just trying to make sure that it doesn't happen to the WoT fans here.
-
Well if anyone DOES want to know you can go listen to the 4th Age Podcast that has Brandon Sanderson in the interview.
-
…Where is this available?
-
Dragonmount.com and Itunes.
