Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
« on: July 11, 2005, 04:56:13 PM »
The trailers really had me worried for this movie, but I heard a quote on the radio today that renews my hope: "Everything in this room is edible--even me, but that would be cannibalism. And cannibalism is frowned on in most parts of the world, boys and girls."

I've read several early reviews which are touting this as the best Burton movie since Beetlejuice.

I suppose that's good, given that most people really like Beetlejuice.

that's what he's saying. It sounds like Fell, like me, didn't care that much for Beetlejuice, but CatCF looks like it could be really cool.

I'm saying that the trailers for this movie did not make me excited to see it, mostly just fearful that it looked kind of neat but would probably turn out lame. But I'm starting to think that it might work.

This movie is going to be good....odd, but good.  Johnny Depp is a great actor for this type of role.  The only thing that I would have liked to have seen is Gene Wilder as grampa Joe.

I agree that that would have been kind of cool--to have Gene Wilder, who was Willie Wonka in the first movie, in the grandpa's role in the new movie. Was that ever actually considered, or just wishful thinking?

Gene Wilder would have never accepted the role even if they offered it to him, he's quite mad about this remake being made and has publicly stated what he thinks of Burton and Depp for doing it.

Yes, but one must understand that Gene Wilder is actually crazy. And when watching one of his movies if you listen to him closely enough you'll here it in his voice. That man came out of his mothers womb insane.

Thats why I think he is so great.....for willy wanka you have to be crazy to do that role...hence Johnny Depp is doing it. Do not get me wrong I think they are both great actors, but the reason I think that they are so great is because of the fact that they are a little crazy (or a lot, you choose).

Legion has a good point.

I think I'm going to like this movie.  I like Depp, I like Burton, and I like the original story.  The thing is, they needed someone who was as insane as Wilder, yet completely different from him, in order to remake this movie.  Otherwise, it wouldn't distinguish itself enough.

Going to go see the movie tomorrow night, "the suspense is killing me....I hope it will last."  ;D

I will let you know how it is...but I do have a hope that it is good so that might cloud my judgment
